    Hi guys,
    what a brilliant forum!

As the thread says, I'm looking for the correct order to re-install the drivers in this pc, I know it's quite important to do it in a particular order on some laptops, so I've been browsing the acer sites but can't find any info on it.

This laptop belonged to a chap that died & his family asked me to get it working for his son, when I tried to boot normally it wouldn't work (in either safe mode or normal) trying the restore partition didn't work either, when I booted using a WinPE cd i could only see one partition on the drive so the restore partition didn't seem to be there (mayb someone tried that before, i don't know), any how I've re-installed vista HP on it & now need to know what order to reinstall the drivers, so if anyone can guide me I'd really appreciate it.
    Thanks in anticipation.

I've never really installed drivers in any specific order when I've clean-installed my system.
I do tend to start with the Nvidia graphics driver though, so I can get the maximum resolution right from the get-go.

TehSuigi, many thanks for your helpful reply, it's much appreciated & i did what you suggested & started with the chipset & graphics drivers...

After I'd downloaded & installed each of the drivers on the Acer download site here all went well but I'm still left with an unknown device in Device Mgr & don't know what to do to find out what it is, everything (bluetooth; wifi; etc) seems to be working ok... if you can shed any light on it or what i can do to find out I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks again in advance of any help.

Right click on the device and go to properties->details->hardware IDs. There you should see lines like PCI\VEN_1180&DEV_0852&SUBSYS_011E1025&REV_12. That one was from my xD card reader which windows couldn't detect. Then search for DEV_number and DEV:number. This way you'll be able to find out what device needs drivers.

AndrejaKo, thank you very much for your advice & it's proved very helpful, it reminded me (I was trying to do the drivers around 1am after a long day at work!) that the only device that didn't install correctly was the modem (said device not present)
When I look at the Hardware Id's for the unknown device this is what it shows:
    HDAUDIO\FUNC_02&VEN_11C1&DEV_1040&SUBSYS__10250146&REV_1002
    HDAUDIO\FUNC_02&VEN_11C1&DEV_1040&SUBSYS__10250146

I've tried downloading the modem driver again from the acer site & it just won't install, also tried searching for the dev_1040 but can't find anything relevant

    Any ideas gratefully received....
    Thanks again....

Well, that IS interesting. Do you require your modem at all, or will you be OK with wireless and wired broadband?

TehSuigi, thanks for your reply & sorry for the delay in responding but i've been away from home today... i'm assuming the young fella that's getting it will be using it on broadband or wi-fi so I'm hoping it'll be ok without the modem driver unless I can get it to work.

AndrejaKo thanks also for your reply too, I extracted & ran the modem setup file but it said there was no device installed, i then went to dev mgr & updated driver & told it to search in the folder where i'd extracted the files to but it still couldn't do it - error was the same no device found.

I will take a look at your link & see if I can find a way to install it but if not I'll have to give it to the lil' guy anyway....

    thanks for all your help...

success! I searched with the HDAUDIO\FUNC_02&VEN_11C1&DEV_1040&SUBSYS__10250146 & variants of it & found a site called drivermax.com which let me download & search for a match for the modem driver & it also automatically installed it. it's now working a treat!
Thanks again for your help guys.
