Hello everyone!
I accidentally spilt a drink over my Gemstone Blue Acer Aspire 6920G (whilst It was turned off). My girlfriend and I mopped up the most of it and I positioned it in an arc on my desk
--> /\ shaped <---
Now, on leaving it for a night I turn it on the next day, first few moments it's fine (I dual booted the HD so i navigated to Windows 7 and got as far as my desktop, I tried using a web browser but all of a sudden my laptop decided that someone was holding down the A button (though I know I sure as hell wasn't.) Praying it was a bug I restarted it, i got as far as my log on screen when the same thing happened. 3rd time's a charm, I reboot and now none of my keys work bar the arrow keys (As I can choose which OS to use but not select them with the enter key.)
I know the error lies with my keyboard because using a USB keyboard everything works fine. I then removed the battery, various screws and removed the keyboard from the base. Cleaned it out, re-connected it (double checking there was good contact between keyboard and motherboard) and re-assembled it. On restarting I have the same problem, I can choose which OS but not select it.
I've really got 3 options here:
1. Buy a replacement Keyboard
2. Send it to an expert
3. Buy a Mac
Anyone got any ideas here?
Regards
Renz

update:
keyboard is now responding however certain keys are not, i.e. enter works but keys 1 - 5 do not and neither does q w e r t y.
In addition when i selected the on-screen keyboard it showed several keys, including shift to be held down.
any help would be appreciated -
1. check ebay, i have had one for a long time but not got around to doing it. i have seen some help and you have a choice of completely taking the lappy apart or prising the keyboard out. search in the 6920 thread.
2. how much????!!!! try yourself. be very carefull and you have nothing to lose, if its too hard/tricky you have no choice and have to pay.
3. wash your mouth out.....
(i will pm you some info) -
The day just got worse....
Laptop now decides to reboot once I hit the power button. In addition this i'm presented with a blank screen (back light not working either!). I've tried plugging in a monitor via VGA cable and via HDMI cable. Neither works. Sometimes it decides to run without rebooting but again with the lack of a screen to work with.
I even took out the HD, stuck it in a remote HD connector and plugged it into my Desktop (I hoped to boot the OS through that and scan for any viruses, no luck).
I'm trying to access the BIOS to 'reboot with last known good configuration' but without a screen it's not happening.
Sorry to be such a drama queen -
It is possible the liquid might sneak underneath the keyboard and causing the problem. The truth is the whole thing must be disassembled to be certain. However, you might get a new keyboard off ebay for less than $20 if you know how to replace it.

Do you think replacing the keyboard will fix this? I'm now contending with a non-working screen and a laptop which fails to boot properly (if at all)

Maybe not, but as I said, things aren't certain until the keyboard comes off and see how much fluid got inside. Notebook keyboards are easy to remove. Just google for instruction and check it out b4 you can do anything. Also, it's best to remove the battery and avoid powering it up until repaired. The fact that it's not totally dead, there is a good chance it could be saved.

I took the keyboard off (without damaging the data cable) yesterday. I couldn't see any residue at all.
In addition to the problems above the laptop now refusing to power on at all now and then, alongside it's auto-restart after 2 seconds. I've decided to have it shipped off for repair, depending on the bill i'll decide to sell it for parts and buy a new one or make do with what I've got.
Should I decide to sell it in parts I'll be getting rid of the HDD, is there a way to extract the Vista OS that came with it? I'd like to retain my ownership over it for future kits.

Stole my little sister's compaq, swapped HDD's, re-configured the Acer HDD to work (I reset the CMOS battery as well) and now it's going through a start-up repair. Aside from getting a few needed files off the HDD any suggestions on what I should do to try and remedy my woes?
Again I can't stress how grateful I am for the patience you've afforded me thus far (^.^)
