is yours the model with the TUBA Bass (6930g)??? if so then you may need to use VLC media player to listen "loud" as it amplifies the music to 200%

also ensure you have the correct hd audio driver

There could be something wrong with it. I have the same laptop, and I usually keep the volume at 40-50 and it's still pretty loud.

I think i may have solved the problems that you boys were looking for. Go down to your speaker symbol in the task bar. Right click, "sounds".

    Playback > Speakers > Properties > Levels

move the bar at the top from whatever its at to 100, which them moves the max output from being 50, to 100...which is twice as loud.

I also have just got a 6930G with TUBA and thought there sound was very very poor, even with volume at 100% at both the speaker and application level. The system say my drivers are up-to-date.

However, the following appears to have dramatically increased both the level and clarity of sound of music and DVD movies (you can try it an see):
    a) Though the Control panel, click on 'Hardware and Sound'
    b) Then select 'Sound' This should bring up the Sound window
    c) Highlight the 'Speakers' option but DO NOT double click
    d) On the bottom left of the window where should be a 'Configure' button, click it
    e) If this is set to Stereo, change to 5.1 Surround and follow the screens with the next button and Finish. I just turned everything on, including side pair, but you may want to experiment.

There are other Dolby sound properties you can also looked at by this time double clicking the 'Speakers' option, but don't believe they affect volume.

Please let me know if this helps with your sound issue as it did mine...
