Hey everyone!
I'm trying to fix my fathers laptop so he won't have to spend money on a new one. Here's the problem:
When I press the power button to boot the laptop it does not boot, it just flashes the power light(s) on and off at maybe 1 flash per second. I've tried removing the RAM-sticks one and one, removing the HDD, removing the battery and removing the DVD reader (not all at the same time, of course). None of those helped, it still did the same thing.
Then I tried to blind flash the bios from a CD, the laptop comes on with the fan at full blast, the DVD reader comes on and it stays on, but it never finishes and powers off.
Anyone know what the solution might be?

Come on, any clues?
I'm thinking that the motherboard's fried. -

Have you tried removing the battery and mains power then hold the power button down for 20 seconds then re-install battery and see what happens.

Didn't work.
What was that supposed to do actually? -
Unfortunatly, your part of the dead Nvidia chipset group.

Damn, I'll just tell him to buy a new one then.

Jay_d, have you got more information regarding this problem?
Since I seem to have a very similar one.
Laptop (7220) turns on, fan sounds, then it dies and power light and media light blink slowly.
This is with removed hdd. As soon as I connect the hdd, same as before, but hdd starts to spin and then it dies but after a second the laptop tries to start again.
If this is graphics card related it should be enough to change the main board, correct?
Are you sure this problem is not CPU related?
Do you know a place where I can get a new MB for a good price (only the board, I can assemble it on my own).
Thanks in advance for your help! -
hello Korvost
I have the same model (Acer Aspire 7220) and I had the same problem ( the power up button was flashing 1-1.5 seconds on/off).I triend changing all components.Nothing.Eventually a friend of mine who has a computer service said this was a common problem for this model.
Here is what i tried :
1.Start up without charger
2.Start up whitout battery
3.Start up with both
In all cases (1.2.3) i tried holding the power button for 2-3 seconds after the blinking started. After 10 min of trying all combo's IT WORKED !!! I don't know which is the "right" combination but with patience and a little luck you'll find it.Good luck !
ps : solved the problem 5 days ago , no problem so far.
