Update:
Just wrapped the notebook inside a blanket and overheated it, then let it cool down.
Now it works.![]()
All i have to do now is to remove the Nvidia gpu stuff left behind and it should be ready for use again.
Edit:
My problem is exacly the same as the one described in this thread:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=424346
But i could not find any fix.![]()
My stepdads Acer Aspire 7520G wont turn on anymore.
The wierd thing is that it was working yesterday.
Now it just keep rebooting like seen in this YouTube clip.

Its out of warranty so i was hoping i could try fixing it myself.
With the help of the community here of course.![]()
I been randomly searching Google for help and what i have found out is that this is a common problem, but i have yet to find any fixes other than the suggestion to remove the motherboard and reheat it inside an oven.
(This looks like a last resort fix. )

Bumping the thread.
Any help would be appreciated. -
It is the Nvidia Graphics shorted that caused this. -
Ok, that was unfortunate.
But since the Acer Aspire 7520G has a removable graphics card, i could just remove it and it would boot up again, right?
Im thinking about inserting a ATI Mobility HD 4570, its a decent low end card and should run much cooler. -
Just got my replacement GPU from MXM Upgrade.
After a quick replace job i tried booting again, and it still doesent work. -
7520 = nVidia MCP Unibridge platform.
You are experiencing BGA failure of the unibridge. Reflow with BGA tools would be required to (properly) repair the board, hence your Radeon GPU Card not working. -
Hi DEagleson, I know its been a month or so since you posted but I thought you'd like to know that i'm an ict practitioner running a computer repair company, anyway recently I got a couple of 7520s for free due to the same problem, did a reflow with a heat gun (300~350'C any cheap one will do, like ones for stripping wall paper) on both and they work just great now.
Are you still having problems with yours? -
i suppose there is something wrong with the connections of this model (i had several problems with this laptop)
volume is not working
dvd drive has died
gpu nvidia also(which i have replaced it with an ati 3650) and now it rocks...
this problem occured to me today after i shutdown the laptop normally and tried to switch it on again it was rebooting every 4 seconds
I tried the following trick which i found on another forum
I pressed hard the whole front area of the laptop (keyboard touchpad speakers etc) and while i was pressing them hard with my hand i turned it on
.......and voila IT WORKED!!!!
but i dunno how long it will last -
Try opening the system and re-seating every cable, connector, stick, CPU, GPU,...etc. While at it unplug the BIOS battery for at least a minute. Connect everything back but not the battery pack and power cord. Press&hold the power button for 30sec, then plug the power cord and turn it on without the battery. See what happens.
If nothing helps - you need another mobo, IMHO. -
i did all these it works now without pressuring the case hopefully it will last
i have an other problem with this model.... It has really high MCP temperature 88-94 C ,the motherboard chip(nvidia) has a cooler(silent) like cpu and gpu. i have replaced the thermal paste with new one but still has so much temperature,is that normal for this chip or something is wrong with the cooling system?
normal cpu temp 55
normal gpu temp 57
normal chip(motherboard) 88 ????
any help would be apreciated
is there a way to increase fan speed? -
That's a way too high for the MCP chip. Does it have a thermal pad or paste on it? In the past I managed to cool it on my MX17-R1 from 80C to 60C under full gaming load just by replacing the stock thermal pad with MX-3.
Both CPU and GPU idle ~55-57C are too high, IMHO. But cleaning the vents, grills and fans from dust and reapplying the paste (OCZ-Freeze or MX-3) should help. -
I have the same laptop model (7520-5311) and it has the same problem. It shut down last thursday and did the blinking as demonstrated in the OP's Youtube video. When I tried it sunday, it came on but only for 10 minutes before it shut off again.
Acer Aspire 7520 trouble. :( Wont turn on!
