Trying to burn backup dvd discs to reinstall windows 7. Internal dvd-rom is faulty (error code: 0x207). Tried to burn the discs on external dvd-writer, but no luck, as it uses different burning software. Any ideas how i can burn the backup discs?

Use recovery partition to restore Windows and then use new working Windows installation to burn DVDs as a backup.

You don't have to use DVDs to restore- a hidden recovery partition does the same thing only faster.
