Acer level 2 support (very nice female American person, too I might add) tells me that their database is out of date. She even went out of her way to try to find me the concerned part number outside of what she was trained for (manufacturer warranty restricted). Now, here's my dilemma.
The Acer Aspire 7552G series comes shipped with DVD Optical drives. However, some come shipped with BD-ROM (or possibly BD-RW) optical drives. If someone knows where I can find these BD-ROM (or preferably BD-RW) optical drives (internal, not external please) or just the part number so I can look myself, I would be eternally grateful. I'm unlocking the maximal potential for my notebook PC, and it would be nice if I could use BD media without the need for an external.
My current specifications:
AMD Phenom II X4 Quad-Core N920 Mobile CPU 2.1Ghz
12GB- 3x 4GB DDR3-1333 Patriot Memory RAM
Dual HDD setup (Seagate Momentus XT 500GB SSD/HDD hybrid, WD 500GB Scorpion Blue 5400RPM)
DVD Super Multi 8X DL combo drive
17.3" HD LED screen
ATi Radeon Mobility HD5650 1GB dedicated GPU (possibly upgradeable to a 6000M)
Atheros AR5B97 Wireless Card (upgrading to an Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 Dual-Band 2.4Ghz/5Ghz Wireless-N 450Mbps with Intel My WiFi networking support)
Windows 7 Ultimate x86-x64
Linux Ubuntu 10.10 Maverick Meerkat x86-x64
6-cell Lithium Ion Battery (lasts about 4 hrs when undervolted and downclocked)
On a side note, if you have one compatible for this model, I'll buy it off of you D:

Meantime, my Atheros AR5B97 doesn't come out of hibernate properly, but does come out of suspend ok. -
Thanks for the heads up. My main concern is finding the drive and I'll soon be checking to see if my dedicated GPU is interchangeable. The new BIOS version supports the 6xx0M series for ATi, so that's my next project after getting a BD-ROM or BD-RW for this.

You can buy any BD you want as long as it's SATA and is not locked to work only with certain vendor (i.e. HP).
These are all the same standard size and have the connector in the same place.
As for the GPU it's most likely not an MXM unit. -
Exactly. The internal drive might be installed in some kind of caddy, but this can normally easily transferred to the new drive.
Sometimes, a custom front plate can be a showstopper, not sure if Acer makes use of this design element.

I opened up my gateway and my ati 5650 1gb is not interchangable, its integrated into the motherboard.
