First of all, I would like to thank the many folks here that posted an enormous amount of info that got me up to speed entirely on this machine of mine that I have had great experiences with until the screen flicker thing....and got me to a point where I fixed that and wanted to upgrade it! ATG and TehSuigi come to mind in my thanks, but there are so many others...
So, for the record I did upgrade the CPU to a T9500 today, and patched the BIOS successfully to allow VT!! Finally I can use WinXP mode on my 4GB x64 Windows 7-yeah! I have been a beta tester for MS since Windows 2.0...and this is the best OS they have ever shipped, period.
So, I am greatly impressed with the performance improvements-this thing is running like my quad-core Q6600 8GB RAM RAID-0 500GB Intel BadAxe Mobo desktop monster now! EXCEPT for the graphics, of course...as the X3100 really does stink. And, come to find out that mine-from Staples, does NOT have the MXM slot. RATZ! They never offered it, the model I have was sold through office superstores, and the high end "G" model I should have gotten was not. I got it for $499 after promo's/discounts 2+ years ago, so I cannot complain!
Now, to my need....I am a certified IBM Thinkpad technician, for the record, so I am not averse to totally dismantling a laptop and reassembling it without a hitch-or extra parts. With that said, I am potentially interested in upgrading the Motherboard on this baby, notching the left side so that the DVI port hole is available, and do a Mboard swap with these folks...
http://www.notebooksolutions.ca/zc/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=3141 (and of course get them to drop a couple of bucks 'cause mine ain't broke)
Could it easily be done? Are there any other differences between the two motherboards BUT for the MXM (plastic) "slot" not being available on my motherboard, as the plastic "connector" is not there for the MXM card (and the DVI port hole)....AND then so I can upgrade it to the "hot-dog" with a 9600GT MXM card?
I appreciate the response! And, if anyone wants to know how the BIOS 1.45 VT patch works, let me know, as after many days of research, I found that it was easy...once I found that someone named MaxL on another forum pre-made a python patch that works great on your own ROM dump! (and only on your ROM dump, I might add)

There are diferences, it has a connector for the usb on right side that is wider because it is for a infrared port and video input in a slot like nine pin s-video. Everithing else is the seme. Be carefoul because some motherboards does not have audio connectors and you must swap them from your old mobo.
Please can you tell me how to patch the bios to enable virtualisation.
I also have a frankenlaptop Originally it was a 5315 but now it has MXM and a t9500 so it would be very useful for me.
Sorry for my improved english.
