    Hi Guys,

    I'm having trouble installing Win 7 Pro 64bit on my laptop. When I try a clean install, it gets to the Completing Installation part of the install, then the screen goes black with a white cursor flashing in the top left hand corner. The hard drive lights stops shortly after it changes to the black screen. Left it for over half and hour but didn't seem to do anything. Tried to repair the problem but didn't work. Has anyone experienced this? I did make a couple of modifications to the original hardware specs so don't know if that would make a difference? Thanks.

    CPU: T7300 -> T9500
    GPU: 8400M GS -> 9300M GS

    Likely your GPU fails to be detected.

    (BTW, 8400M GS -> 9300M GS is really a downgrade, at least performance-wise. )

    How much RAM do you have? I know that Vista x64 was known to hang during setup if you had 4GB installed, pulling 2GB out fixed the problem so you could install it and then you could put the remaining 2GB back in... But this shouldn't be the issue with Win 7. Anyway, if you have 4GB, you could try this out.

    tried with 2gb, didn't make a difference. disabled a whole bunch of things in BIOS, still had the system hang on completing installation. I tried to pre-load my graphics card drivers, however an error came up. I'm pretty sure .Netrolller is right in that the GPU is failing to be detected. So unless anyone can come up with a solution to my problem, I guess I'm just gonna have to go back to Vista

    I really don't know what's the issue here but Windows sets graphics to Standard VGA anyway if you don't have preloaded drivers. What version of 7 are you trying to install, original or pirated?

    It could be SP1-integrated, which AFA<!-- -->IK recognizes 9xxx-series OOB.

    .Netrolller was on the money, GPU was failing to be detected. Even at the start of installation it wouldn't let me pre-load the drivers for it. Started the installation again, and put my dodgy 8400 back in when it reset to complete installation. It managed to last long enough just to finish the installation, then put my 9300 in again and everything works like a charm. It was a copy of Windows 7 Pro 64bit original. Also tried Pro 32bit and Ultimate 64bit but had the same issues.
