I have tried to record in stereo through the line-in of my laptop but it only records the left channel and at a rather low volume -controls at max.-.

With the same cable and cassette deck my other laptop (7540G) records in stereo ok.

I'm running the Audicity program, but it fails also with the Windows Sound Recorder.

I have downloaded and installed the reccomended Realtek driver, but nothing.

I have carefully checked the Audicity settings -stereo- and they fit those of the Control Panel.

Can you help me? Is there any known isue about this problem?

No, that is for recording the sounds Windows makes.

Either your cable or the 7720G's line-in jack has a short.

^ Its not like thats definitively whats going on. The 7720g in fact has the audio jacks on a separate board. A component on this board could have broken.

No sound on one channel and low volume on the other is a sign of a short between the 2 channels.

    Many thanks to all.

I have recorded with this same cable in my other Acer laptop, ok.
Even so, I have tried with a different cable.

My laptop has not been dropped nor abused in any way but, of course, it can have some problem in its conections.

I wonder if I could use a cheap USB adaptor. Have been searching the web, but those I have found are for a mono mic only. May be, if I find an inexpensive one, I could give it a try.

I could also have a look at its input conections -just wiggle them a bit- but don't know how to do it and am afraid of spoiling something.
