Ok so I bought this laptop a little over 3 months:

    Acer Aspire 7720G-703G25Hn
    http://www.cclonline.com/product-in...y_id=265&manufacturer_id=288&tid=lx.ans0x.169

and slowly I watched it's performance decrease over time. I figured I would try to install XP since my friends who were on 1 year old ROCK laptops could run games like Counter-strike Source without any problem like I could when I first got the laptop and I slowly couldn't anymore.

Anyway, that lasted a week before I got pissed off with the lack of driver support etc etc. So I decided I should re-install Vista again.

What I didn't realise was the 10gb partion on the hard drive was actually the recovery disc. I just thought it would be all the bloated crap you get when you first get your laptop. So I foolishly deleted the partion and proceeded to install Vista which works. I am having trouble with sound crackling, sluggish graphics and over-heating though.

I was wondering is there drivers that are specifically suited for my laptop or do I just fall under 7720? In fact when I look on the international support sites I see 7720G but I don't see it on the Euro support.

And also, is there anyway I can get the recovery disc back? Like I said I foolishly deleted it and I have been searching for it online for a while now but have had no luck and ended up here at these forums.

Sorry I've gone on so much, I really hope someone could help me!
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Pijiu :)

I guess you have the same problem I used to have (for 4 loooong months). It´s good to say that almost every 7720 has this f****** problem

Try this links, luckily the will help you solve the issue! ;)

To sum up, update your BIOS to v1.34 and stuttering will be gone!!! :D

BTW, there are drivers for XP here => http://www.acerpanam.com/flex/acerdrivers/bin/drivers.html?CFID=308895&CFTOKEN=60027800

Kind Regards and Good Luck!!! :)

I've never actually udpated BIOS before. How would I do it? I have downloaded the v1.34 update from the EU ACER Support site.

P.s. I'm not going to lose any data am I? It won't necessarily be a problem I can just install the OS again but as you can imagine I would like to spend less of an effort lol.

Edit: With regards to the drivers. Even after my Vista re-installation I'm confused as to which stuff I should be downloading. Especially with XP drivers on that site when there's for example 5 or 6 different drivers just for the webcam. I don't really know what hardware is built in :p

Updating BIOS is really really simple, just shut down your antivirus shield (just in case), and then execute the file "ICL50134.exe" (as Administrator if required), in less than 5 seconds it´ll be done ;).

You will absolutely not lose any data, upgrading BIOS has nothing to do with your hdd data :D. Maybe, after upgrading to v1.34 you will expierience a "false-start" when you swith-on your laptop, it freezes at Acer Logo or remains with blank screen. Don´t panic, just swith it off by pressing power button for 4-5 secs, wait for other 4-5 secs and then just swith it on again as normal, it will start as good as always ;). This upgrade will TERMINATE your ANNOYING lags, stuttering and sound problems :D. If it happens to have this powering-on issue, v1.35 will surely solve it, but don´t worry, it´s a silly thing and does not harm your lappy in any way :).

Finding the right XP drivers is really a p*** in the a** :p, but at least for me, it´s definitely worth it (I really HATE Vista ). Maybe it will help to run some hard-recognize soft to realize what specific devices you have (wireless, webcam, lan, etc), so to download the proper drivers ;).

Well, good luck and let us know how it went!!! :)

    Kindest Regards :D

Sorry to bump this old thread.

I installed the v1.34 BIOS drivers and it solved my sound issues. Then I let my laptop update to Vista SP1 and the sound issues came back. I found out that v1.40 BIOS drivers came out. I proceeded to install but it has failed to solve the sound problems.

Is anyone else still having problems?

I´m running Xp so I can´t tell you exactly, but in my case (and AFAIK in all cases), since v1.34 sound issues were solved (unleashing some new bugs...). Didn´t hear of anyone experimenting sound problems under v1.34 or v1.40.

A new Bios version is about to come, wait for ir and give it a try.

Good luck and excuse for not helping that much.

you might try upgrading the realtek driver...

    www.realtek.com

use the driver from the manufacturer and see if that solves the problem
it sounds like the driver for REALTEK or the UAA driver for HD AUDIO from MS got changed durring the sp1 update

as i understand it... the realtek driver from thier site has the newest UAA driver embedded into their driver installation.... so it may solve your problem

    later,
    bigO

I checked on the site and found R1.97 which apparently is a driver from last month but when I check my driver properties post-install it has rolled the driver back to 2006 when my driver was from 2007.

do you still have the sound r]problem???

if so,,, uninstall the REALTEK driver...
then run the setup of the 1.97 version....

    still haveing problems after that???
you might try to uninstall/remove the UAA HD AUDIO driver from the SYSTEM DEVICES section of the device manager...

(cancel any attempt by windows to reinstall the drivers that it autodetects).... then reintall 1.97 again FROM THE SOURCE DOWNLOAD

    Also on another note:

With specifications like this laptop has I would expect to be able at least run world of warcraft on very high settings. I can't even play it on the lowest settings without getting FPS drop to 20fps.

This laptops CPU gets to 80 degrees and the GPU is 90 according to EVEREST. I'm getting sick of this laptop. I know laptops like to overheat a little but this is rediculous, I spent just under £1000... I expect to at least be able to play 3 year old games at medium-high settings.

I can't even touch the back right of my laptop because it will burn my fingers (literally).

Regarding what I just wrote: Is it possible for me to clean out my fans without losing my warranty?
