I have recently bought the Acer Aspire 7720g laptop and kinda like the spec. Though I have had 2 major annoying issues with it. The first is that it would never boot at first attempt after an overnight shutdown. This was resolved by installing BIOS version 1.43 after finding a solution on this forum.
The second is one that I can not for the life of me find the reason. The network connections of the laptop will stop working after a few minutes and requires several restarts to make stable. This only seems to happen to the wireless connection. It does not drop signal it just seems to disable.
Yet I have unticked the 'allow Windows to turn of the wireless device to save power' thing. Updated all drivers and BIOS to the most current found version. Also when the wireless network 'turns off' I can not get into network and sharing centre or use the 'Connect To' option, they just both hang.
Even turning the wireless off and back on with the laptop switch makes no difference. Anyone have any ideas? Any help would be most appreciated.
Thanks.

EXACT same thing here, I´d give up a long time ago... (It did NOT happen with factory BIOS (v1.19))

Im hoping somebody has had the same problem and has found a way to fix it. I don't want to roll back BIOS to an old version as they do not work well with Windows Vista according to Acer.
So any help is much appreciated. -
Ok so after further problem diagnosis I have found that when the wireless network stops working, all network related protocols will not respond. Also an ethernet based conection will also stop working.
It seems that the network side of vista is just crashing rather than your bog standard dropping wireless connection. I am not sure whether this is a hardware or software related issue yet (as in a vista or a driver based issue). Will post here if I find any more information or a fix. -
Thanks for the further info.
Btw, I have Xp, so I guess it´s not OS related. It might be driver or hardware related. But I wonder if it´s not BIOS related, regarding what I´ve stated earlier. Have you tried Bios v1.19? Just to know if it also works for you...
Kind Regards -
I may have gotten to the bottom of it. After lots of investigation, it seems that a WMI error report that you see by checking the Event Log in administrative tools accessable through control causes the shutdown of network connections. According to the Microsoft site it is a known issue with Vista SP1 and it gives you instructions to run a script which stops the error being reported. This is suppose to resolve the issue.
I have tried it and I am now going to see if it makes any difference. Will let you know once I have more info. -
Looking forward to hear that, and that it can be applied under Xp, ´cause it´s really annoying loosing connection again and again...
Kind regards -
OK it seems to be down to the base acer components not compatible too well with Vista SP1. This laptop came with it already pre-installed. So even a system restore does not resolve it. I will be contacting Acer regarding the issue when I get a bit of time.

Thanks for the update.
Good luck on your attemp to contact Acer.
I do not have Vista on my lappy, I´m using Xp32 SP3 on it, and same problem here, so I do not think it´s Vista related...
Kind Regards -
Al last, I´ve found a solution
I don´t know why but I can´t PM you (may be you need more posts, but afaik only 3 were needed in order to enable pm).
Anyway, if you read this, post here or pm me.
Regards. -
I just bought an aspire 6930 and I'm having the same network issues as themwdr. what's the solution, elbubi?
-
Hi Sportsfan.
Unfortunately, the solution I´ve found can only be applied to 7720´s models as it´s not software related.
Sorry I can´t help you
Kindest regards
PS: I´ve tried to pm you to explain it a little wider, but you can´t receive pm´s cause you have only one post. -
I may have the same problem described here. Under Vi$ta networking just stops and that's it. However, this started to happen just recently. Laptop worked fine for few months before this started happening. Networking under Gentoo and FreeBSD works fine.

Could you please send me the solution? I'm sending this message with my brother's laptop because my wireless is'nt working (again
) My e-mail is
.
Thanks in advance -
Hey elbubi!! I have the same network problem with my aspire 7720 laptop... I read all the posts on this thread and it seems that you have the solution. It would be cool if you could post it on the forum or send it to me ! ([email protected])
Thanks -
Kind Regards -
Hi Elbubi,
I have the same problem on an acer 7720g and was wondering if you could email me the solution please? my email is [email protected]
Thanks in advance,
Paul -
Just e-mailed you
-
I just have to wonder why is this a secret? Just post it here so everyone can know.
-
Believe me it would be much easier for me to post it here instead of mailing every one who asks for it, and if you look carefully I did´n start the thread, I just offered a solution to the OP (not being able to PM him), and then other people asked me to help them.
Happy now? -
For those having similar network issues, you can try downloading Bios v1.45 here and flashing it. (Now it´s public, not beta version)
It has worked in almost all cases
Kindest Regards and good luck! -
Like many others have been having issues for some time but its got worse over the last couple of weeks - Takes about 3 or 4 logins before the wireless stays on. Sometimes it only last minutes before crashing out. I have checked the event log and see some of the WMI errors
I have flashed the Bios and checked its worked but have seen no improvement. Can anyone help as my laptop is pretty much useless at the moment -
ok further update the WMI errors are error 10 and Microsoft have published advice on a vbs script to run.. tried it and working much better so far... 5 plus reboots and worked every time...... however I think the true test will be tomorrow
I will keep you posted because I know I cant be alone with the 7720 wireless problem
Acer Aspire 7720g network issues.
