Hi guys I recently bought a Acer Aspire 7738G with these specifications:

    X9100 extreme 3.06
    8GB of ram
    7750M at 900/1400
    2 500GB 5400RPM Hard drives.

I bought the laptop knowing the audio wasn't working but was advised that replacing the speaker would mostly like work however I've replaced the speaker and still the speaker symbol in the bottom right is still red.

I was wondering if they're any diagnostic methods to find out how I can get the audio to work again? :D

Perhaps the new speaker could be faulty but I highly doubt that even though it is a possibility.

Hopefully one of your superior minds could help me out.

    Cheers Ben

What are the step you have taken? Did you reinstall the audio driver from acers? also have you plug in a headphones to see you get sound on the headphones?
check under device manager, start/window oval and select run type " devmgmt.msc " without quotes, look for exclamation mark under sound, it seem like you drivers issue or corruption, have you reinstall windows??

I have fix many laptop over the years, and I have never run into a laptop that had faulty hardware sound card...
