Maybee I´ll have to call them instead..

Edit: Doe´s anyone know what prog to use to show the temp on both cores, and to change the fsb?

Got it today..Tried to get through to Acer support to order details
to mount my SSD disc, but they would return my call tomorrow..
The screen..it is glossy maybe I´ll get used to it and the blue text that is on some sites maybe has a little to much contrast,I will try powerstrip and adjust it when I install windows on my SSD disc. The sharpness is fine.
Thats my first impression,if just Acer calls tomorrow...

Just encountered a problem with my 7745G. When I closed the lid, my laptop didn't go to sleep mode and I didn't notice that for like half an hour. Was carrying it around the campus. When I brought it out of my backpack, I did smell some sort of electrical burning smell, but the laptop is still functional. Should I open it up and check whether the components are still intact? Also, why didn't the damn thing went to sleep mode when I close the lid?

    Check your power plan settings.

Also if the laptop runs fine it should be ok.

As of now it's still running fine: no BSOD, no weird errors yet.

Also, since I got this laptop, I have yet to change my power plan settings. Not even once, and prior to this incident whenever I close the lid, it did always went to sleep mode. I believe it doesn't have anything to do with power plan setting.

Well just double check what is set as you can change what the machine does when you close the lid (Shutdown, sleep, nothing etc).

Also I should get my 7738g on Friday after a small delay.

I have tried ATI Tool,ATI traytoll,Rivatuner and MSI afterburner, maybee this is impossible?

Only the extreme editions would be unlocked mate. 99% of the CPUs will be multiplier locked (upwards).

X9100 and QX9300 (if it worked, not been tried AFAIK)

There are a few energeering samples too that come unlocked but you have to be careful with them.

Is there anyway to replace the ATI with a Nividia? I love the ATI.. But for my STO.. Well, It hasn't got enough "Muscle" to run it at a high quality level..

I got my 7745G - 6662 a few months back, I'm very happy with it.

I also changed the HDD to the 500GB Momentus XT SSD Hybrid, I'll get another at one stage and RAID 0 them.

Seagate Momentus XT 500GB ST95005620AS Review Page 12 - Conclusion - Overclockers Club

it takes 35 seconds to boot to the password screen even though the HDD is 90% full, just waiting for the parts to put in the old HDD as secondary. You have to get this HDD if you're stuck with that slow 5400RPM HDD it will make a HUGE difference.

I do however wish I could upgrade to the 5870

Obtaining the parts for the second hard drive can be a nightmare!!

These are the 3 you need:

    • HDD Cover Door for Acer Aspire 7745G – 42.PUM07.004
    • HDD Cover Bracket for Acer Aspire 7745G- 33.PUM07.003
    • HDD Cover Connector 2nd HDD for Aspire 7745G – 20.PUM07.001

I got the parts after a week of hassles, but with no screws?? there are 7 screws in total, make sure you ask for the screws as well. The people who I went through said they wont sell/give me the screws.

I just can't believe Acer ship these parts without the screws.

Go to ebay and buy an LED backlit 17.3" notebook panel.

    Fit it.

    Job done.

I had no trouble getting the second drive bay parts and screws from Acer. I simlpy called the support number and specifically asked for a level 2 support person. I gave them the part numbers for the adapter, bracket, and drive cover. They said it was listed as a warranty item and shipped me the parts with screws free of charge, 3 days shipping.

    Am I reading this right?

Removing the 1st hard drive and replacing with a Momentus XT or SD requires extra hardware?

Can anyone here with a 7745G who's successfully navigated through Acer tech support for these parts give me some tips? I've tried several times with no luck in both levels one and two. I'm just told that since I'm trying to upgrade to a second hard drive they can't help me and I have to buy parts from a secondary supplier (mundocorp? their website doesn't look promising, but I need to call them tomorrow when they're open).

Did Acer handle the issue directly through their main support line? Any additional tips?

When I bought this PC in July tech support told me that 'it wasn't really a secondary HDD bay.' This forum has given me hope but I still can't squeeze the parts out of Acer.

I ordered from Acer Spare Parts
Just type in the partsnumbers in the search engine and they come right up
No need to make any phone calls.
Do you have the parts numbers?

Edit:I can write the partsnumber incase anyone wants them:
    42.PUM07.004
    33.PUM07.003
    20.PUM07.001

    1 of each is neded.

I as well have called multiple times as(level one and two support) To be told I am "upgrading my laptop" and for aftermarket parts go "insert one of the three companies they sent me to" [that only sells batteries and LCD screens]

Ive given up, I wish I would of bought the kit for ~$65 when i had the chance.

My advice, bite the bullet and pay the ~$100 before they sell out as well

    Hi!

I have two questions about this laptop. I bough it about 1 month ago.

    - How can I turn on/off manually the second HDD? It switches off automatic, and I hate that, because I have to wait about 30 secs.

    - How can I launch the Acer PowerSmart manager and configure it? I don't like the automatic VGA card switching. I want to control it manually.

    Thank you for the answers.

Anyone that has added the 2nd HDD notice if their SD card reader stopped working? That's the only thing that has changed and all of a sudden it no worky

It recognizes it as new hardware (after i uninstalled it under CP) but no drive shows in My computer nor the pop up asking what shall I do with said installed device.

I downloaded the Alcor Micro USB reader.... still doesn't work

I uninstalled all USB devices under control panel, rebooted TWICE..... still doesn't work

I'm kinda torn, I was so happy to get 2nd HDD but pissed now my SD card reader doesn't work.

It seems that my 7745G has a Spdif out on the headphone out.
How do I connect it for Spdif out,Is it the middle one and ground?

    Edit:
In Windows it says that it is a optical out put.
    Any one know this?

Hello to everyone. I own a faulty Aspire 7745G-5464G50Mnks with ATI Radeon HD 5850M discrete video card with 1Gb of dedicated DDR3 memory and I'm trying to understand what's wrong with it. Here is the thread I've opened where I describe the issues I'm experiencing:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/gam...-ati-hd-5850m-probably-even-worse-issues.html

I think the issues could be due only to two possible reasons: a corrupt bios eeprom or a bad motherboard. Probably it is the latter but I'd like to rule out the first before.
To do this, I'm going to desolder the flash from the board, buy a replacement one, flash it with a programmer and solder it back in place but I need a backup copy of the bios coming directly from a working system.
The reason why I'm searching for a backup copy coming from a working system is because the bioses downloadable on Acer support site are EXACTLY the same for 7745, 7745G and 7745Z and they contain the video bios for ALL the video cards used in those systems (I've stripped them down and I know that for sure; I suppose that the choice is made at flashing stage by the programming software) while I need the bios actually written on the flash of a working system like mine so already with the right video bios programmed, the one for a discrete ATI HD 5850M with 1Gb of DDR3 dedicated memory as said.
I think that this is the reason why I couldn't succeed in doing anything with Atiflash & co. That's because with a laptop the bios for the video card is embedded in the system bios and that's why I've radically changed my approach.
That's the last try left and I hope that someone around here could help me. Thanks in advance and have a good day!
