We need to pool information for this laptop and here is the start.
Link for modded bios: http://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-Un...755G-V1-17 It is the bios for the 5755g but can be used for this model as well.
Range of specs for this laptop appears to be i7-2670 with 6850m (awesome) to the i5-2450m with 7670m.
Depending on the specific end model number 7750g-xxxx, it can have two to four dimm slots. All the 7750gs do have two HDD slots but some other models have the 2nd HDD slot blocked by it's backcover with plastic fillers. You need to find a backplate cover with 2nd hdd (available from: Specialty devices, best prices - it's itec4less.com! when in stock). You can try cutting through the plastic with a small saw knife and sanding it down to save money.
Cheapest price so far for this model with the i5-2450m and 7670m found at tigerdirect for $499 after $50 rebate.
If you want to replace the 1600x900 screen with a 1920x1080 one- possible:
HSD173PUW1 17.3 inch Laptop LED Screen Panel Matte WUXGA (1920x1080) Full HD - Laptopdvdrw.com for $179 but I still need to verify compatibility.
If anyone gets lucky to find a disassembly instruction/video would be great.
Bottom appears to have a mini-pcie for a possible egpu set-up or msata SSD-need to verify this.
Battery life hovers at around 4-5 hours with power saving mode.
Overclock of the gpu is feasible with msi afterburner or TRIXX.
Laptop seems to be a good bargain that can perform until Haswell comes out.

There was another thread here with regards to the overclock of the gpu in the 7750g model- looking for it. OK here my experiences during 1 month using.
I buy and replaced backcover for seconds hdd.
I installed another 1TB Samsung HDD (WIn XP sp3)+ original 640GB ( Win7 home). Worked very well.
In bios i can choose which hdd first boot.Win7 home+Win XP SP 3 ( drivers at acer.com).
I'm dissatisfied with loudness fan and temperatures. I3 temperatures are very hot. 60 idle, 80-100 load *Celsius*
I'm planning take ntb to a part and repast+clean vga + cpu with new paste - hope for low noise and quiet fan.
Another thing i wanna do is running integrated graphics, because mostly time i use low graphics applications and don't need high power with HD6650M.
Have problems with integrated microphone at skype call. Video looks well, but microphone record is not clean and my voice is incomprehensible.
Also have problems with Catalyst control center and hot keys. Hot keys for Gamma, brightness, contrast did not working at desktop. -
Thanks for beginning this thread, its a good idea to pool this info. I just ordered the i5 2450 version of this laptop and am due to receive it in a couple of days. In the meantime I've been doing much research.
It appears the 7670m gpu is essentially a underclocked 7690m. Seems like theres a good potential to over clock it, depending on how it handles the extra heat. I have read elsewhere that a 75mhz increase is negligible on the heat.
I look forward to contributing to and following this thread. -
Haven't played with gamma on the catalyst- I have been using the function keys for brightness. -
Niice! I just bought this laptop a couple months ago..here's what I've done so far:
Specs can be found here:
Newegg.com - Acer Aspire AS7750G-6662 Notebook Intel Core i5 2430M(2.40GHz) 17.3" 4GB Memory DDR3 1066 640GB HDD 5400rpm DVD Super Multi AMD Radeon HD 6650M
Using a dremel, I cut the area around the second HDD slot..so now I'm running Primary: 64GB SSD (Using to boot Windows) and Secondary 1TB HDD for programs and such.
Upgraded to 12GB Ram, Modded BIOS, on LeshCat Graphics Drivers
Trying to do:
Apply Artic Silver (Cannot figure out how to remove the plastic above the processor..)
Overclock -
I did some more digging, I thought the 7670m GPU only came in DDR3 flavor, apparently there is both DDR3 and DDR5 versions out, see here: GPU Battle: Radeon HD 7670M vs Radeon HD 7690M vs Radeon HD 7690M XT
The system I ordered was the AS7750G-6645, the $500 Tiger Direct Deal mentioned earlier (I think).
I will know more once I have my hardware on Wednesday. I guess I'm speaking out of turn when I don't actually have my hands on the computer yet. Sorry! -
Thanks FMruss! -
link for the modded bios: http://www.bios-mods.com/BIOS/Insyde/P5W...miloml.exe inside of the link thread I had before- it is the 5755g. -
Yes it works on all 7750Gs. We all have the same M-board.
-
Thanks fmruss and funnyguy, for the reply. I didn't expect them to all be the same motherboard, throws me off a bit and you never can be too cautious when flashing a new BIOS.
I may skip that until I have a need to do it. I haven't decided yet.
I would like to mention best buy has 4gb sticks of ddr3 for sale @$16.99 +free shipping. I went to the store front and paid the $1 in tax. Cheapest price I've seen at the moment.
Fmruss; what I meant to say about your links, is that when you paste them into your post, its being automatically shortened with periods and breaking the link. Its not a correct url , when click on it doesn't take it to the intended destination.
Funnyguy; I haven't done much reading on leshcat yet, but what's the advantage to his drivers versus the official ati ones? Both will allow overclocking I believe.

Has anyone with a 7670m been able to install any of Leshcat's drivers?
-
Just fyi, here is a 7750g unlocked BIOS from bios-mods. It might be the same as the one posted earlier, but I can't confirm as the earlier links were shortened and broken.
http://www.bios-mods.com/BIOS/Insyde/A_A_7750_P5WE0117_UlkMenus_ByCamiloml.exe
I can not confirm this BIOS as working, please check bios-mods forums before attempting a flash.

My bad with the links- but for the bios mods that is where the correct location is and the same bios mod I used to unlock the bios- nice extra features- CPU speed is locked down but you can increase minimal memory assigned to HD 3000 to 512mb instead of the 256mb. Other power options.
-
What is the actual setting for changing minimum memory to 512MB?
Also are there any other quick tweaks within the advanced BIOS to improve system performance? -
I will be running before and after benchmarks regardless, I was just curious. My 7750g is set to be delivered tomorrow. ::fingers crossed:: -
LeshCat Drivers are more up-to-date than the official release, fixing some errors and such.
I've been on Custom BIOS and Leshcat, and I LOVEEE it. I hated the switchable gfx..so I run on the high perf when gaming.
If nobody decides to take apart the laptop to get to the processors, I guess I'll give it a try this weekend! -
Neogeo: I saw in another thread you were trying to get the unlocked BIOS to select only the Radeon graphics card and disable the integrate graphics. Were you able to do so? I'm assuming I have to select to enable PEG to enable the radeon graphics all the time, don't don't want to mess with something I know nothing about.
Anyone else notice the BIOS updates for the 7750g go up to v1.20? I'm wondering what was changed/fixed between 1.17 and 1.20. I didn't find a change log. -
I emailed them, and they gave no response. I went back to the modified 1.17 BIOS so I can allow more RAM to the integrated graphics, which improved performance somewhat mostly in Flash games.
-
NeoGeo: Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it. I did enable PEG only as was sugested in another thread. I haven't noticed a difference in my benchmarks at this point.
If you are the same person, I saw some posts on overclockers about you using MSI Afterburner and/or Trixx to overclock the 7670m, were you able to do so?
So far, both trixx and afterburner see the 7670m, but they can't increase anything, fan speed, core or memory clock, etc... I'm not sure if it has to do with the BIOS, drivers or what not. I've also noticed that the overdrive option in CCC isn't present.
I'm hoping that the leshcat drivers are the answer to allowing the overclock of the GPU.
Any advice or pointers you could give are much appreciated. -
I can successfully overclock with MSI Afterburner 2.2.0 final. I can't have the program run on startup, or it won't work. I have to open a program that is set to use "high performance" mode in the switchable graphics menu. After that I can open MSI Afterburner and overclock to my desired levels.
-
Sorry I bailed from the 7750g as it is too big for my taste- sold it at my cost minus $29 dollars. Went to a cheapo A6-3400m Acer 5560 that I got on ebay for $329. 7750g has good specs and if something comes out at that price point for a 15.6 screen, I am all over it.
-
NeoandGeo, what specs did you overclock it to? Can you post figs? Thanks
-
I overclocked to a slightly bumped 7690. 750/950, which keeps videocard temps a steady 65c during gaming. I'm surprised it stays so cool during Diablo III and Kingdoms of Amalur.
Only thing I have to do to play well on a mix of medium and high settings is to set a framerate limit of 30 so I am not jumping from the low 30's to low 50's.
I love this laptop, except for the apparent inability to get flash content running on the ATI card. Some of the more advanced browser games are very laggy/choppy using the Intel HD graphics. -
I think I clocked mine to 725/1000; I haven't tested it very much to see how the temps are holding but at this point it seems my results mirror neogeo's.
Note, I can't use msi afterburner to OC, only trixxx, not really sure why that is.
Neogeo; I'm surprised flash isn't being processed by the GPU that you specify. I have my BIOS set so that the 7670m is set to be on full-time, can you give me a link to a flash game you have troubles with? I'd like to see if its relegated to your system or if its a common problem.

Sims social is a game I have a notable problem with while using switchable graphics laptops. I set the browser to use the high performance processor, but while playing them the movement is laggy and I see that there is no discrete GPU activity. I have enabled the option for 'always enable PEG' but it doesn't seem to do anything for me.
-
I'll check it out, I doubt my experience will be any different, but I'll check. I installed ccc 12.3 with newer drivers and don't seem to have the option to specify which apps use which gpu, so we will just see what happens.

At least we are making baby steps to having a working set of Leshcat drivers.
I had to roll back to the official Acer set because after a restart Diablo III would no longer work on the ATI card.
-
Hey guys, you can try these steps to get MSI Afterburner to enable Overdrive in CCC and to also get it to allow overclocking.
Make a batch file with the following command in the MSI Afterburner folder then run it.
MSIAfterburner.exe -xcl
Should get a message to reboot if it worked right. When you reboot and go into CCC you should see the Performance/AMD Overdrive option. Hope this helps.
Also, if you want to get Afterburner working right open the config file and type this statement in the [ATIADLHAL] section as shown. Also note the UnofficialOverclockingMode is changed to 1.
[ATIADLHAL]
UnofficialOverclockingEULA = I confirm that I am aware of unofficial overclocking limitations and fully understand that MSI will not provide me any support on it.
UnofficialOverclockingMode = 1
AccessibilityCheckingPeriod = 0
UnifiedMemoryUsageMonitoring = 1 -
I did repasting gpu+cpu. Helps me a little bit. At heavy all core cpu's load (lynx) temps rise down from 100 to 90°C, at normal load cpu temps are 80°C . But at idle temps are the same - around 60° C. I hope lower idle temps and silent with fan off. Heatsink is connected with cpu+gpu(6650m) and this is maybe problem. Ati gpu is always on at 1.0v does not matter idle or load.
Don't know, where is problem. This low power i3 should be a silent hammer. I think that Acer united cooling system is not good.
Advice who thinking about repasting cpu+gpu at 7750G. This work is not so easy. You should take a part the laptop. Motherboard need take out of the chassis and you will see more than 20 screws out. Gpu integrated to mb, no upgrade available.
I broke lot of small plastic block which hold upper plastic cover under keyboard, luck screws hold this cover also.
Results: I don't recommended repasting.
Future: My next laptop will be with easy access to gpu and cpu.
Some pictures added. -
Hello all! I just bought a 7750g-6645 and loving it so far! Just one question, I got it off tigerdirect and bought a Kingston 4GB 1333MHz DDR3 Non-ECC CL9 SODIMM to install on the laptop. I was just wondering how to install it into the laptop.
-
Those are some HIGH idle temps! My gpu idles at 45celsius, and under load at most 65celsius. I with check the CPU sensor but it sounds like you might have a serious problem.
As far as adding memory, take the back panel off, the large one. Its difficult to do, you almost need to use a flat head screw driver to pry it up it spots. Once off, you will see an empty slot for your new ram stick. Make sure the tab/pins align correctly and push the card it towards the slot at about a 45degree angle, it should seat into the teeth. Next, lay the card down towards the board, there are two metal arms that will catch and hold the ram at the notches on each side.

Yes idle cpu temps are too much, gpu temp like yours.
Please can you check with CPUID HW Monitor and post your temps? Thank youAttached Files:

For those of you who bought this laptop from Tigerdirect (i5-2450m), can you guys tell me if your touchpad is Synaptics or Elantech?
-
Synaptics.
Those temps are really high lol
So repasting is a no no..damn. Wanted to put some new paste on this laptop.
Anyone try overclocking the i5 yet? -
I'm not touching the CPU as far as oc. Only going to mess with gpu.

Did a complete reinstall of Windows 7, and the Leshcat drivers install fine, with the exception of an option to also install the CCC, so I can't choose what programs use the GPU. I tried installing the CCC from the latest official Acer driverset, and it gives me all of the options except switchable graphics options. Although the option is there in the right click menu on the Windows desktop, it brings me to a page with a link to the AMD website.
I wonder what is stopping the driver package from picking up the CCC included with his 12.3 Up2 set???
EDIT: BOOM! Installed the CCC from the 4/18 package. Switchable graphics is a full GO! -
I did what popeye did, added the bat file, and went with MSI Afterburner standalone, 700/950
-
I would like to try use intel HD graphics, but i don't have options at ccc.
Also device manager shows only Radeon HD6650m. Is there any possibility run my system with Intel HD? ( bios ?) -
Do you have the modded BIOS? Are you using Leshcat drivers and did you uninstall just CCC then reinstall it?
So many questions. -
popeye1128 - CCC start right, options only for AMD 6650M, i have original bios, do you think modded bios allow me use intel HD? Original Acer drivers.
Do you have options use intel HD graphics?
I read that some 7750G laptop has disabled using integrated graphics. -
Here is what I have:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/22776310/Capture_2.JPG
You have Travelmate, I have Aspire. Not sure they have same motherboard and BIOS. I have modded BIOS installed which gives me the ability to choose which GPU.
I have Leshcat 12.3UP2 drivers installed. Acer drivers are old crap.
What is your motherboard? Mine is Acer JE70_HR -
Thanks for starting this thread.
I do web application development and have a need to run big queries on a large-ish database. I found that, even with two HDs, I was never using the processor fully because the storage was the bottleneck. So I saved up and eventually swapped both stock HDs for SSDs. The difference is dramatic.
Having done that, it would be nice to have a little extra space to host my portableapps (Thunderbird, Firefox, Gimp, etc) and maybe a couple of virtual machines on a 3rd drive.
If nobody has any direct experience with mSata on this machine, any successes or failures in other models with Sandy Bridge processors (HM65 chipset) would be helpful.
Have to say, when I bought this rig, there was nothing else out there that could touch the specs (Sandy Bridge Quad Core i7, 16GB capable, dual HDs, Bluray) at the price point. This machine is on all the time and has been an amazing work horse.

Yes there are little differents between Travelmate and Aspire. I have BA70_HR. Bios V1.11.
And don't know, why i can't use intel HD graphics. If is disabled from manufacture or only via bios. -
Is it advertised as a switchable laptop? If not, they most likely have it set up to use only the AMD GPU in both hardware and BIOS. -
I just received my 7750g-6645 from Tiger Direct today. I want to move the 500gb hard drive into the 2nd hard drive bay and install an SSD drive into the primary harddrive bay. Can someone please tell me what all of the parts are that I need and where I can buy them from?
I saw someone said itec4less.com carried the hard drive cover but I couldn't find it on their website.
Thanks!
Jeremy -
And most folks put the SSD in the 2nd slot and leave the HDD where it is because of the cooling setup. You can make the 2nd slot the boot drive in BIOS.
I haven't actually done it myself but I think the only other part may be a mounting bracket to hold it in place but I would think Velcro would work well also. -
Hi! I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right place, but here goes:
I've been using the 7750g since January-ish with absolutely no problems, or none that I've noticed. I'm not that great with computers, so I haven't tried any sort of hardware modification. I've only updated drivers and BIOS as necessary.
However, as of a few days ago, I've run into an issue: If I run a program that uses up a lot of memory or CPU (Diablo III and Crusader Kings II, both of which ran just fine before), my power cord stops working. First, the cord will disconnect for a brief moment, then come back, then shortly after it'll stop working entirely and the LED light beneath the computer's power button will blink until I unplug the cord. After I close the program and/or plug the cord back in, it'll possibly happen again, but sometimes it doesn't.
I have no idea whether there's a problem with the power cord and AC adapter or with the computer itself, and I have no idea how to figure it out short of ordering a new power cord and testing that one out. Acer support wants me to use their pay-per-problem service, but I'm not exactly keen on dishing out money for that.
Has anyone else run into this problem, or know how to fix it? Thanks in advance. -
