Well, one of those nasty to determine problems. Could be 3-4 things.

    1. Overheating, monitor your temps with something like Speccy or another program.

    2. Power Brick, the blocky looking power supply, not the cord.

    3. The onboard power circuit, very bad.

    4. The jack where the brick plugs into the laptop, again very bad.

Do you blow out the vents on your computer regularly with a can of compressed air?
Power bricks are fairly cheap. Is it very warm (hot) to the touch when this happens?
Slightly wiggle, not hard, the connection where the power brick plugs into laptop.

Post results if you don't figure it out. Good luck!

I do clean out my vents, yeah, but I've never actually opened the laptop to clean it from inside. Should I?

The computer never gets too hot. According to Speed Fan, the CPU never gets over 40 degrees Celsius and the GPU never really gets over ~65ish. The power brick, though, has gotten really hot to the touch, though it's not always that hot when it stops working.

    Thanks for the help!

I contacted that company and they are no longer able to get the Hard Drive Cover that allows a 2nd hard drive. Does anyone else know of a place that has them in stock and available?

    Thanks!

Add failing motherboard capacitor to that list and I'd say the the majority of sources for the problem.

I tried them and they said they don't have them and none of their vendors have access to them anymore. This is pretty much the same story I have found with every place I have found online so far.

After sitting on hold for over 30 minutes and then getting transfered to Level 2 support with Acer I was finally given a phone number at Acer to call and get the parts. That phone number was 800-910-2237.

I called that phone number and they said they don't stock those parts anymore. I was told by the people at Acer to call Capital Data at 800-999-4409. I called and left a message because they were closed for the day. Hopefully they will be able to get the parts.

In the mean time if anyone else knows of somewhere I can go to order the parts I would appreciate it.

After searching Google every place I could find either didn't have access to the parts or the page was in German or some other foreign language. :(

Before 1 month i got the plastic cover with 2 brackets for second drive.
Working good, but second drive working with higher temps than main slot.
    ( +5°c).
Waiting nearly 1 month for packet from Germany. If you want, i can ask contact for you.

Specification says : AMD Radeon HD6650M s 1 GB , no Intel HD.
With Msi afterburner i set up the clocks for idle status 300/300. Fan turning off frequently then before with 600/800.

I think that sounds like you're looking a two different sensors. The sensor for the Intel HD graphics chip is clocked by default near 300/100 and the radeon by default is clocked around 600/900.

I could be misunderstanding what you are stating, so I apologize in advance.

He has the Travelmate. The Intel HD GPU is turned off in BIOS/Hardware. He has underclocked the AMD GPU although I'm not sure why he would have to. The default clocks should not cause any problems unless he has a problem elsewhere like with the cooling system.

popeye1128 has right. I like silent and low heat, unfortunately i can't set manual fan with 0 rpm.
When idle ( web atc) HD6650 running with max freeq. clocks - 600/800 and this is little unproductive.
That's why i tried underclock and undervolt AMD6650. Now running with CCC profile Maximize battery life from 1.0v(max performance) to 0.9(battery maximized) and lowered clocks with MSI afterburner.
That's all what i can do.

Where was this thread when I needed it a month ago xD?
I bought a 7750G-2634Mnkk last month and I'm really loving it. I fell in love with the 17.3" screen. Coming from a 15.6", the difference was definitely noticeable. I now find 15.6" way too small. I initially had a problem with the laptop out of the box where the whole system would hang for a moment every 5 or so minutes, but that was fixed with a system restore.

One thing I am having problems with is installing Leshcat's drivers. They install just fine, but there's no context menu option, nor an option in CCC to select a GPU.

Anyway, here's what I know about the laptop.

Mine came with the 6650M, which I'm able to overclock from 600/800 to 750/950 providing around a 30% boost in most games.

I haven't played with overclocking the 2630QM yet as it more than sufficient for my needs.

This particular model had two DIMM slots for a total of 8GB of RAM. It also has a Toshiba MK7559GSXP 5400RPM 750GB hard drive.

As for the hard drive bay, I've had hell trying to find somewhere that stocks the expanded cover. I've found a few places that sell them, but either they're out of stock or won't ship to Australia. If someone knows where I can get them, please give me a shout.

From my searches though, I did manage to come across this. It allows you to replace the optical drive with another harddrive or a SSD. Not practical for me, but hey, someone could use it.

If there's anything more you guys need to know about this model, let me know. I'm more than happy to help.

Please bare with me as I'm fairly new to doing the things I'm asking the questions below about.

I just bought this new Acer Aspire laptop about a week ago.

    Acer Aspire AS7750G-6645 NX.RVHAA.002 Notebook PC - Intel Core i5-2450M 2.5GHz, 4GB DDR3, 500GB HDD, DVDRW, AMD Radeon HD 7670M, 17.3 Display, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit at TigerDirect.com

With it I purchased an extra 4GB of memory to upgrade it to 8GBs. I bought 4GBs DDR-1333 (PC3 10600). Which is what the tigerdirect website said was the Memory I needed. However when I put it into the laptop my laptop is still showing I have only 4GBs of Ram. I know both Memory sticks work because I tested each on there own in the laptop and also each together in both memory slots. In the end it's only showing I have 4GBs (3.86GBs) of Ram. Asking around the answer I'm getting is the Memory sticks probably aren't the same speeds. Here is the extra memory I bought: Crucial CT51264BC1339 4096MB PC10600 DDR3 SODIMM Laptop Memory Upgrade - 1333MHz, Non-ECC, Unbuffered at TigerDirect.com

Does anyone know the exact specs of the Memory in my Acer Aspire 7750G-6645?

Should I just purchase another 1 of the 4GB crucial memory I bought as the extra memory? and then not use the memory that same with the laptop? That way I'd know they were the exact memory speeds.

I also had a few ppl tell me I might need to update the Bios. I looked and seen I have Version 1.17 of the Bios and on the Acer Support Acer Support: Downloads & Support Documents - Notebook / Aspire / Aspire 7750G website it says there are 3 updates after my version ad are currently on version 1.20, but it doesn't say what the Bios updates fix. Should I update the Bios???

If it could be something else please feel free to let me know.

Make sure you have the new memory chip seated correctly. I would suggest taking it out and putting it back in and booting.

I have the same model of laptop and added a 4gb stick of pny ddr3 10666, worked just fine. A memory stick with the capability of a higher clock will work just fine with a slower one, for the most part. Therefore, the memory doesn't have to be exactly the same.

Also, your BIOS isn't the problem, it will detect it automatically.

Bottom line is its either the stick isn't properly seated or there's a problem with the slot on the motherboard. You may even try swapping the factory installed stick into the second slot to make sure the slot isn't the problem.

Good luck and report back your results so that you may help someone else who may have the same or similar problem

Yea, you should hear a definite click sound when you push down on the memory and it is seated properly. Once it is seated, the tops of the little metal holding bars should be in the half circle cut outs on the sides of the memory.

Check if BIOS shows 8GB or not. 3.86 is clearly the value reported by Windows.

Thanks guys!!! I finally got it working. I first checked Bios which said I had 4096mbs of Ram. After that I took the suggesting of putting the old memory in the 2nd slot with nothing in the 1st slot. Computer had power when I tried to boot it, but it didn't boot up. I opened her back up and put the new memory back in the 1st slot and then took the old memory out and then put it back in this time hearing a click. Which didn't happen any other time I did it. I think the clip on the left was in the way just slightly and wouldn't allow the memory all the way in. So although it looked like it was in right it must have barely missed touching together. Anyway it works and it's showing I have 8 GBs of Memory. Thanks a lot everyone.

I'll be back in a few weeks to ask for help putting an SSD in the 2nd HD Bay. :)

Just for anyone who is interested.

I have been messing with over clocking the gpu (7650m). Now, I have not done it properly, I didn't use a benckmarking program to establish a baseline and make small adjustments as I should have.

What I have found thus far is I can comfortably run the gpu at 725/900 (up from 600/900) without and stability issues whatsoever. Temps do not exceed 65c. I find that this results in nearly identical frame rates in games that are reported at notebookcheck.com for the 7690m.
I have oc'd to 750, but began noticing graphical artifacts. I don't think any increase between 725 and 750 will make a noticeable difference, so I will leave it at 725.

I'm surprised how well this laptop does, I've been able to run games such as mw3, dead island, borderlands, skyrim... at near Max settings at 1600x900 without dropping below 30fps. Of course, specific performance varies between the games I mentioned above.

The only real problem I've run into is that during game play, occasionally the switchable graphics decides to kick in and switch to the HD Intel chip set, I have to alt+tab out and use trixx to reset the clock speed. I have unlocked my BIOS and set the video chip set (peg) to static, it still likes to switch but at least I can over clock the gpu now.

Load times are a bit slow coming off of the 5400rpm hdd, I'm still trying to stomach purchasing a ssd. Good prices can be found on them, I just don't want to buy one just yet.

While none of this info is methodical, or done in a proper way, I hope it helps to clarify any info or provide some amount of help to anyone who may be interested.

    New 7750G owner here.

Love the book so far but i am unable to overclock the GPU as some of you have done, Trixx keeps telling me that ULPS is enabled but wont turn it off even though it is checked. I tried turning it off through the registry but it doesn't fix the problem. Was i suppose to flash with a modded bios?

    Welcome.

First I would flash the modded BIOS, it allows choosing which GPU you want to use full time instead of assigning programs to the AMD GPU that doesn't work very well.

There are two ways to unlock overclock using MSI AfterBurner. I like having OverDrive in CCC myself. Here's the steps for both:

    Download and install MSI AfterBurner.

    Enable OverDrive:

Make a batch file with the following command in the MSI Afterburner folder then run it.

    MSIAfterburner.exe -xcl

Should get a message to reboot if it worked right. When you reboot and go into CCC you should see the Performance/AMD Overdrive option. Hope this helps.

    Enable AfterBurner:

Also, if you want to get Afterburner working right open the config file and type this statement in the [ATIADLHAL] section as shown. Also note the UnofficialOverclockingMode is changed to 1.

    [ATIADLHAL]
UnofficialOverclockingEULA = I confirm that I am aware of unofficial overclocking limitations and fully understand that MSI will not provide me any support on it.
    UnofficialOverclockingMode = 1
    AccessibilityCheckingPeriod = 0
    UnifiedMemoryUsageMonitoring = 1

I concur, I wasn't able to over clock until I flashed the unlocked BIOS, I received the same error using trixx.

After doing that, there are a couple of options you must change in the BIOS, there is another thread in these forums that details those changes.

I haven't used overdrive in ccc yet as the option wasn't available and I haven't tried the batch file option. I will give it a go as trixx is beginning to give me some troubles.

    Thanks for the replies guys.

I have been looking around different forums and im not sure which bios to flash with, which one are you using?

One more thing, im having some problems with the usb ports on my book. Im using a Logitech wireless mouse which i usually connect to the left usb port, but as soon as i enter Diablo 3 (maybe any games, oinly one i have installed so far) it starts loosing connection. the pointer keeps getting stuck at different intervals, sometimes for 2-3 seconds. So i switch to the right side when im playing, but if i connect my external drive in the 3.0 usb port right next to it it does the same thing and the mouse becomes unusable. Is this a known issue?

For modded BIOS look at last post on this page: http://forum.notebookreview.com/acer/647283-acer-aspire-7750g-switchable-graphics-problem.html

As far as your USB problem, it is not a known or common problem. All I can recommend is uninstalling your USB devices under the USB Controller in Device Manager then reboot and let Windows reinstall them.
If that doesn't work you may be having a hardware problem with your USB Bus or controller. :(

I have a question. When I play games with the trackpad, I'm unable to left and click at the same time. I had a look through the pointer settings, but there wasn't anything related there. Anybody else have any ideas?

And I don't suppose anybody wants to sell their 2 HDD bay cover? I can't find anywhere that sells them and ships to Australia. Ebay was no help either.

Hey. I've had 7750g for a year now. In the past couple of months is started to overheat really bad, CPU and GPU can get to 100C under load. I can't really play any new games. Is there a disassemble instruction somewhere? Because when i take off the back cover, I still can't get to the fan

Are you saying you get no video on initial post? Hold the F2 or F8 key when you turn it on. Should get into BIOS or Safe Mode.

Also what version of BIOS did you have installed before flashing the modded one? Some people have said they had to have the OEM 1.20 installed first.

For me, that was the reason I wanted the modded BIOS. The OEM BIOS which only allows assigning programs to the AMD GPU did not work well at all. Now I can just select the AMD GPU full time.
Also activated OverDrive in CCC and raised clocks just a bit with no significant rise in temperature but significant performance increase.

There are a bunch of unlocked settings in the modded BIOS but I've been too chicken to experiment with them.

Hey, just checking in about this again: I ordered a new AC adapter to see if that was the issue, and turns out it wasn't. So that leaves something wrong with the computer itself, which sucks. Thanks.

    Hi,

Same problem here (7750G I5 2410 with Radeon 6850). I too did a check of the AC adapter (even bought a new one) and the problem persisted for a few months and got progressively worse each day. It got to the point I couldn't even start up the good 'ol Guild Wars. Acer Support wasn't helping any either.

And then it magically fixed itself. Everything started working tip top...until this Friday, when it started hiccuping again. This coincided with the Ati Driver update 12.4, so you might want to look into that.

Something like here How to Slow Down a CPU Fan | eHow.com

I can see process epowertray.exe, epowerevent.exe, but that is all.

I just wanna try slowing down cpu fan.

Epower management has no control over fan speed. It's just a replacement for a Windows power scheme and not much more.

Does anyone have any pictures of what needs to be removed with a Dremmel to get the 2nd hdd to fit? I'm looking at my SSD drive and I'm looking at the space in the 2nd hdd bay and I don't see how I could remove enough to get the SSD drive to fit.

I was thinking that it wasn't the bay itself that needs alterning, but the plastic panel that coverage the entire unit needs to be cut to allow for the extra depth the 2nd hdd needs. Just guessing here.

Afaik, the tigerdirect links that have already been posted in this thread are expired, not sure what the current price is.

Depends on the model you got. My 7750G wouldn't fit my SSD in after removing the plastic, so I had to take the SSD out of the casing and just put it in like that.

If you do want to remove the plastic, you can grab a pair of pliers and just snap the plastic out. I know, it sounds really rough, but it snaps off really cleanly. No need for a dremel.

Strange your Travelmate is so noisy, I don't have the problem with the Aspire 7750G. Mine is essentially silent when not playing intense games. Wondering if it is something with your drivers or BIOS. Is the Travelmate cooling design much different from the Aspire?

Does MSI Afterburner not allow you to adjust fan speed?

    I must explain the problem.
Updated measuring utilities. Now Core Temp and Throttlestop show same and hope right temperature. Min 40°C and max 57° when use internet. Cpu fan turn on when cpu core reaching 50° C and shut down when ~45°C. Looks nice.
Mainly problem is, that procedure with turn on and turn off cpu fan become 2x-4x in 1 minute and that is annoying.

So MSI Afterburner doesn't work? It allows setting all kinds of speed/temp points for the fan.

popeye1128: Tried, cpu fan speed showing 61 % speed auto settings. When i set up self speed to 25% graph shows 25% but rpm are still same. For you this work?

What program have you found to read RPM on the 7750G? Everything I try only shows percentage. I'll let you know my results once you point me to the program for RPM. Thanks.
