Hello all. I've had my 8920 for about 3 weeks now. I've noticed that when I shut it down, or put it into hibernate, the computer decides that it wants to boot into Windows XP, and then goes automaticall into the Media Center. I run Vista x64 on it, so I don't know why it tries to boot into XP and the Media Center. It does this 2 or 3 times and I have to shut it down with the power button. On the 3 or 4 try, it finally loads or resumes Vista. What could the problem be?

EDIT: If it helps, I run Vista Ultimate, have a 2.5ghz Intel Centrion, and 4 gigs of RAM.

    to sum up:
your laptop came with XP and you installed Vista afterwards, right?

1- Hibernation was badly managed in XP, and it's about the same in Vista. If you search the net, you'll find a lot recommanding to turn it off.

2- You're computer loads in XP I think because XP is the first (top) in your boot sequence.
When you turn your laptop ON you get a sort of menu where you can select XP or Vista. This menu has a timer (usually 10 or 30 seconds), if you don't select an option, the OS in top on the menu will start.

3- Now what I don't get is what is making your laptop to power ON when you turn it OFF, and what makes it turn OFF than ON when you put it to hibernate.
Do you have the same problem when you hibernate in XP?

Why did you keep both operating system?

You need to provide us with more details. My guess you need to re-install both OS or forget about XP and keep Vista only.
Just is case you should make a recovery DVD (2-3 copies just in case) for windows XP 2005 media centre before wipping your HDD.

if memory serves me, some people have resolved this issue of booting into media center by doing the following

    1. remove AC CORD
    2. remove battery
    3. HOLD POWER BUTTON DOWN FOR 30 SECONDS
    4. replace battery and ac
    5. reboot

As far as I know, this laptop was supposed to come preloaded with Vista, unless it's shoddy marketing on Acer's part. It doesnt turn on when I turn it off, and it doesn't turn off when I put it to hibernate. When I turn it on hibernate, it starts back up but instead of the "Resuming Windows' screen, it shows the XP SPlash logo. When I turn it off and then back on, it does the same things. I have never run XP on this computer, and I didn't install Vista over it. THat's what it came with and I haven't messed with any settings other than removing some of the preinstalled programs that slowed the computer down. Is that enough information, or is there anything else that you need me to clarify?

sounds like you need to do a FACTORY RESTORE using the DISKS you made or by holding F10 at the ACER boot screen...

there is no excuse for XP being on the machine at all.... unless you bought an open box unit that someone else had tried to setup for dual BOOT..

i'd do a factory restore if it were me... and if problems persist... send it to ACER for repair or replacement.

Its a problem of all models of Acer Aspire blue (6920/8920).

There´s a topic in this forum with this problem. I have the same. Try keeping the hold button "off" (CINE CONSOLE un-hold)

It´s the hidden partition. (xp with recovery program and acer deluxe). you can delete this partition but its a hard process. Have you noticed that there´s no restauration point in your Vista OS? Its a conflict between VISTA and XP.

    I have the 6920-t8300 model.

did you make your RECOVERY DISKS?

as long as there is nothing on the PC you don't want to loose, you can easily do a factory restore... all you have to do is
put disk 1 in the dvd drive..
    shut down the PC...
reboot and press F2 as soon as you see the acer screen.
press the RIGHT ARROW KEY until you get to the BOOT SEQUENCE tab
press the DOWN ARROW KEY until the DVD drive is highlighted
press F5 or F6 to move the DVD DRIVE to the top of the list
once the DVD is at the TOP OF THE LIST, press ESC and then press ENTER to save changes

now the system should reboot and boot from the RESTORE DVD instead of the hard drive.... YOU WILL HAVE TO PRESS A KEY TO BOOT FROM THE DVD

just follow the instructions,,, and you should end up with a fresh install.

once the system is reloaded, you should be able to go to the CONTROL PANNEL and remove any/all that ACER software you choose..

the LAUNCH MANAGER is the only ACER SOFTWARE worth keeping in my oppinion.
