    hi , i have a Acer Aspire 8920G and on the side there is an port with the name "HDMI" . If i plug a HDMI cable in from my Ps3 would my screen work as monitor ?
    so is the HDMI an input or (and) output

    No it is only an HDMI output no input. You will require a tv tuner to do what you would like to do

    Does the HDMI output audio as well as video? Seems like some of the older laptops with HDMI only worked for video.

    I thought DVI was video-only, but HDMI was always Audio+video...?

    the hdmi will output audio, but you will have to change your default audio device to hdmi under playback devices
