Hi, my Acer Aspire 8930G currently has 4gb memory installed.

    2 x Memory Module : Samsung M471B5673DZ1-CF8 2GB DDR3 SO-DIMM PC3-8500S DDR3-1066 (7-7-7-20 4-27-8-4)

I don't game or do much picture / video editing on the machine. Is it worth me updating this memory at all, either add more or install improved performance modules?

Thoughts and ideas greatly appreciated :)

RAM is cheap so you may do it if you want but I doubt it's needed.
Look at RAM usage in device manager- if you still have a lot of free RAM than there's no point in upgrading (you'll just end up with even more free RAM)

If your RAM usage is high as it is an upgrade will be very beneficial.

Yes, I don't think I need more memory, 4GB seems to me more than enough.

I just wondered if it was worth replacing the 4GB with better performing module?

    Thanks for the reply.

Replacing one module for another is not worth it. Even if you replaced 1066MHz DDR3 to 1333MHz one you wouldn't see any difference in games or real life- only in memory bandwidth tests.

the 8930 max ram is 1066 so no point going higher there and 6gb seems to be the max also, some say they have 8gb running but not seen it myself
mine wouldnt even get to the bios with 8gb, but runs great on 6gb

you really don't need anymore than 4 gigs unless you are doing some CRAZY stuff. I have been happy with the 4gb in my 6920 for a long time... and don't think I have ever used more than 75% of it even when playing games like battlefield bad company 2.

That being said I'm pretty sure my system only supports 667 mhz system memory and I have STILL never had lag or any other issues with it.

the ram you have tried, ie Corsair Memory — 4GB DDR3 SODIMM Memory (CM3X4GSD1066
is the same ram I have in mine so not sure why it doesn't work.
have you tried it in both slots and even on its own?
it could be that the ram stick is faulty

other that work fine are crucial 4gb ddr3-1333(pc310600)it wont run at 1333mhz though as the limit for the 8930g is 1066mhz but it runs fine down at that speed

im on bios 1.20 so no need to update
so with your 2x2gb the 8930g works fine?
but with any combination of ram with the 4gb stick it doesn't work?
i'd say that was more than likely a faulty 4gb stick then
