My only real suggestion would be to sell it off and get a Core 2 Extreme X9100

The X9100 ES (Which is same as final) i got from this dealer

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250524819828

Few guidelines if buying x9100 ES (Engineering Sample)
    1. Make sure it's C0 revision stepping 6
    2. S-SPEC Number is QBDW
    3. You see CPU-Z screenshot on ebay

You can also get OEM X9100 from these dealers (shirleyfu1117 is the most trustworthy and I had good experience. More than 10 email replies in 2 days ? No seller can beat that !!)
    http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Intel-CORE2-X9100-SLB48-OEM_W0QQitemZ260517423952QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCPUs?hash=item3ca80c6b50

    Or alternatively from here
    http://cgi.ebay.com/Intel%AE-Core%1...temQQimsxZ20091207?IMSfp=TL091207207005r23022

A small review of X9100 ES which I got a week ago

The X9100 is currently the fastest core2duo you can get your hands on at a relatively cheap price of around £220. The CPU which I received from ebayer shirlyfu was Engineering sample. But it is the final version with stepping C0. There is a new revision E0 which runs slightly cooler on lower voltage. But I was not sure if that's the correct final version. Hence I got the C0 version.

Well in windows 7, my WEI jumped from 6.0 for my old T9400 to 6.5 for X9100. 3D mark 06 score jumped from 5500 to around 6100. I ran the Orthos CPU stress test for 10 hrs. During that time, my system did not throttle and absolutely no errors were encountered. CPU core temperatures reached maximum of 49°C. CPU cores idle at 35°C most of the time. My CPU voltage is between 1.062V-1.238V but according to wikipedia, it should be 1.062 - 1.150 V. But I never undervolt and system does not heat up. In short no problems there. (probably wrong info on wikipedia ?)

My battery life reduced by 15 min after the CPU upgrade. Now it is 2Hrs and 40Min which is hardly a trade off since I don't plan on using this heavy laptop outdoors.

The thermal paste I applied to the CPU and graphics chip seems to have stabilized. Now under full gaming Left 4 Dead 2, GPU temps rise to max 89°C and idles at 50°C.

And my love for ES processors continues !!

Left 4 Dead 2 is playable at around 35 FPS with 1920 x 1080, all settings to max, Vsync enabled and 2X MS Anti Aliasing.

Hi...I just joined this forum. I too am an Acer 8930G owner. I'm not sure which number comes after, I think it's the 7665 but I could be wrong. Anyway, it's the one with 1080p, it has the T5800 core 2 duo processor. It also came with two 320gb hard drives and 4gb ram. Now here is where my problem starts...It came with Vista. I didn't really like it so I decided to do a dual boot to XP. I had to go into IDE mode in the bios at the time to boot into XP but nonetheless, it worked. I also did a custom installation of Windows 7 Enterprise N over my Vista so I was happy to have 7 and not Vista anymore. But then, one of my partitions vanished. 139gb of space just gone. It was the data partition and it ended up becoming an OEM Partition and would not allow me to do anything with it. Well, 139gb is a lot of space to lose (plus I had files in there too) so I decided to try to get it back. Bad move on my part...I used the DISKPART utility that comes with Windows 7. It's command line for those who don't know...and I started throwing all kinds of commands at it...I selected the partition that was missing and I tried to assign it a drive letter but that didn't work...so my dumb butt typed the word CLEAN. Ouch..it erased my entire hard drive. But my second hard drive was still intact. So I decided to reinstall everything from scratch. Here's the big problem: It would not let me install with both hard drives installed. So I removed the second hard drive and I was able to install and do that dual boot that I wanted (I found SATA drivers for Windows XP) and everything worked perfectly. Now when I try to replace the second hard drive, the computer hangs at the opening screen and nothing happens when I try to enter the bios. Does anyone have a solution to this? I'm sorry if this message is really long winded, I just wanted everyone to know what I did to end up having this problem. Thanks for any help you guys can give me. You can email me if you want, it should be in my profile. Thanks again. :)

You can try to recover files from your second drive using R-Studio. This programm allows recovering files even from deleted partitions. You can connect the second drive using external case via usb connection. After backing up data from it you can try to repartition the second drive.

Wanted to share that I succesfully upgrade my 320GB 5400 WD for 2x500GB Seagate G-force7200 protect series...

First I set IDE im bios that put 1x 500GB next to my 320GB and cloned it..
then removed old 320GB, swapped the fresh-cloned disk to location of the former disk.. booted to see if al work out nicely, shutdown and added the 2nd

The second drive isn't the problem, it didn't get erased. All the files are still on it, but when I install it, the system hangs. It's like it doesn't want 2 hard drives installed when there is clearly a space for it. But thanks anyway. :)

Just an update: everything is back up and running. Who knew that by just updating the bios everything would work perfectly? I just don't understand why it needed that since it worked with both hard drives before I did the bios update but I'm just so happy and relieved that it works now. Both hard drives are in and I'm running XP and 7 dual boot!!! I'm ecstatic! :D

Hi all, I'm a long time looker first time poster.
I just bought me an Acer 8930 so that makes me part of the group. =D

What I did was, I installed a fresh and Legit copy of Windows 7 64Bit. And I took the 2 original partitions and made a big one out of it.

Now my question, How do I instal all the features needed to make it work like it's fresh out of the box? I can't use the scroll anymore, webcam doesn't work, Video card has no driver (I already downloaded that one but didn't install yet.)

But I want to make it work like it should. I have no problem with deleting everything (There were some OEM partitions and such that I didn't delete but I can't find nor use them.)

I'm sorry if it sounds confusing but I essentially deleted everything that made the notebook work.

This is my first notebook ever so bear with me plz.

I searched the Acer site for all the drivers but I didn't find a chipset driver or audiodriver.
Can someone link this to me.

    Thanks in advance! :)

I'm sorry, forgot to mention it is indeed Windows 7 64Bit Professional.

Ok, But wich ones do I download, there are like 3 apps with the same name just different Version, and newer doesn't always mean better. Which ones do you suggest?
I got my WHQL driver from nvidia, So that's not a problem.

So that basically tells me I just let windows update my system and download the extra's myself?

    I know I'm asking a lot, And I really appreciate it :)!!

Haven't seen any for sale on Ebay. If you play any of the latest games then you will benefit from the 9700M GT but it's not a major upgrade in my opinion. If you don't use CAD or play loads of games then probably not worth the expense (unless it's just a few ££'s)

Well i will keep an eye out for a cheap one on ebay ....think i would rather spend the cash on an SSD hard drive instead if there is not going to be that much of a increase in performance , i dont really play many games on this laptop ... got an I7 4ghz rig for my games .

Yes that guy is quick , well impressed with his service , chip comes well packed , in a box 30 times the size of the chip ..lol .. full of shredded paper ,..the chip comes in a sealed pack like you get round new hard drives , which is inside a plastic case . Also comes with a thermal pad ( did not use as have AS5 paste ) and an intel core extreme sticker :) .
So easy to fit , checked bios after install and chip was recongnised , booted into vista and it updates the chip driver automatically , reboot again and away you go ...working perfect !!!!

I have no idea how the Chinese/Taiwanese grey market operates

Prices on x9100 are not gonna drop anytime soon. Te retail costs around £500. But these sellers provide you the same processor for £220 which is almost half price. Grab it while their stocks last. Carefully go through the seller's item description and avoid ES processors if you don't understand the risks in buying them. :)

Well i was going to go for an Intel X25-M ...but they are mega bucks ...plus the write speed is slow .....so i went for a Crucial M225 as it has has good reviews and the write speed is around 190mb/s compared to the Intels 70mb/s . They both have the same read speed 250mb/s .
I already have a G-Skill falcon 128gb in my main pc and im happy with that and the crucial is better . think it cost me £280 delivered

    I'm sorry, been very bussy.

    Gratz on the new proc!

I'm experiencing new problems with my windows 7prof 64bit install.
My cineTouch (Touchpad thingie on the left) doesn't work correctly.
Whenever I press the mute button it lights up, the rest goes blank but I still have sound, whenever it is off the sound is muted (It works the other way around). I installed everything that was possible.

Should I do a fresh install of windows 7 And format the complete HDD (Even the OEM reserved ones) And make my own partitions?

Will this make the cineTouch useless or are there drivers for it?

Sorry for the load of questions again, but I cna't get it to work properly.

    Thanks in advance :)!

All works now, exept the bluetooth, I can't get it to work, I press the button to the utmost right and it says there is no bluetooth device.

But I want to do a fresh install for windows and delete absolutely everything from the hdd, is this a good idea? Since there are OEM reserverd parts and such, is it bad if I delete it?

    Hi all,
I have an 8930g with the T5800 cpu and am looking at upgrading it. I stumbled across an 'Apple version of X9100 ,44W used in imacs, renamed to E8435' on ebay. Is this suitable for my 8930g or should I avoid it?

    Cheers for the help.

Get the OEM x9100 version for 100% compatibility. :)

I still have brand new 2 x 7200RPM hard drives in my lappy. I don't think performance boost would be worth it while sacrificing 320GB over 128GB

Thanks for the advice, I will buy one of the OEM ones.

Another thing that im finding very irritating, when using the integrated webcam and mic to record video it seems to be speeding the video up during playback, throwing it out of sync with the audio.

    Is this a common problem?

I've tried a variety of recording programmes as well as media players but can't seem to suss it out.

    Advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

Kid Morbid, for the bluetooth you need to press the button (you're gonna get the error message) and then install the driver (DL it on acer's website) and I think it's gonna work. Well it did for me.
Concerning your install, it depends on the copy of Windows you've got. Is it a DVD? If so, is it a full version or just an upgrade? If it is the full version, then you can delete everything on your hdd and reinstall windows. If you want to do so, DL a soft called drivermax, it's free and it can backup all your drivers, it's a great gain of time! bye

Hi Guys, just registered here.I`m hoping you may be able to shed some light on my problem.Yesterday i bought the Acer 8930.Blu Ray,all the bells and whistles.I`m really pleased with it.With one irritating exception. The Ethernet connection is constantly disconnecting the re connecting.I don`t have a wireless Router, which obviously means that the Ethernet is my only option for internet access. The animated icon shows the connection is on one minute, then off the next, this happens every 90 seconds or so.The Router is working just fine,my main tower system has no issues accessing the Internet.Neither does the old Laptop that the 8930 is replacing.I`ve also tested the Cable on both other machines,to ensure that it is not faulty. It`s driving me nuts!!.The 8930 is running Vista.Anyone have any ideas?.I`m hoping to avoid being put on hold with Acer Support, and having to listen to the music they play whilst i`m on hold!.Thanks,

    Richard

Edit - Forget the above request for advice, problem solved :)

Have you used an SSD ? i have one in my main pc and its so much quicker than a standard 7200rpm hard drive ....windows is so much nicer to use when you have one , feels snappier !!! plus windows is up and running in around 15 seconds :) as for the size , 128gb is fine for me as i never get anywhere near filling it ...always store stuff on an external hard drive .

    Ok every one! Hello.

I have huge problem with 8930g, which was mentioned before, but was not described properly. Laptop itself worked perfectly until I decided to reinstall OS. Instead of Vista, I have installed Win7. Every thing seemed fine untill I started playing games, when massive overheating of the system started happening. Especially GPU. It ranges from 55C in idle work, all the way to 110C which shuts down laptop to prevent damage.

I have seen in some threads that this is "normal" behavior, since 8930g is "basic home use" machine and is not supposed to be used as gaming laptop. I can not satisfy with this king of explanation since it worked fine under Vista, and I had decent fps rates without overheating of the GPU.

With this beeing said, one might ask "Then, why dont you reinstall Vista instead W7, and get back to previous state?". I have done this, but I stil have overheating problem. It seems as if preinstalled Vista had some different drivers, or power management that prevented GPU from overheating.

Does anyone have any idea how to solve this matter?

    This is what I did:
-Let the acer partition install (for a 32-bit OS that I can use for flash and older programs, like (16-bit) castle of winds :-D )
    - Took out that drive, since I have two
    - Installed 64-bit vista
    - Put the second drive back, st-up bios to boot 64-bit, then use the f12 (i think) to change boot device on bios post.
    - next up I tinkered with the partitions using acronis disk director:
    • Deleted the factory partition (i have install disks for 32-bit and 64-bit, I'll just download the drivers if I need them)
    • Moved and resized the 32-bit partition to the beginning of the disk

If and only if windows stops booting, don't worry. Make sure you have a bootable installation disk, that will fix most if not every boot problem you might encounter. If you encounter a problem just google it, there are many problems you could have, but none are unsolvable.

Or if reinstalling isn't a problem, just go for it.
Just again make sure you have a working installation disk to fall back on, since you will lose acer's factory default if you delete it (duh).

I downloaded and installed realtek audio driver 2.39 a couple of days ago on Windows 7. While it significantly boosts and increases sound volume, there seems to be a lack of bass.

What are your settings in the Realtek audio panel? I have chosen 5.1 instead of the 2 speakers mode.

I use PowerDVD to play my blu-ray too.

Check the video frame while recording. May be you are recording at 12 fps and trying to playback at 30 fps
