It's a huge diference with the ssd over the HDD its by far the best buy you can do.
All these years the CPU GPU Motherbords ddr's usb's nano technology was going forward , The only think thats the same all these years was the HDD ,and we all have the same problem to slow hdd on very fast pc.
So i bealive After the 486 to PEntioum CPU its The best step forward to PC's

I have reinstall the Old version of the Nvidia drivers 186.81 and all works great. (brightness) :(

No 8930G does not support Q9100 an Q9200 and QX9300

The only 100% compatible fastest processor is Core 2 Extreme X9100 C2D @ 3.06 GHz

Check my post on page 101
    It is this guy extremeprocessors

    http://cgi.ebay.com/Intel%AE-Core%1...temQQimsxZ20091207?IMSfp=TL091207207005r23022

You may need to hurry up as that guy has only 5 processors left

Congrats mate. That makes you 5th person who has had a successful upgrade to X9100

I would stick to an X9100 as they work 100% , i did hear that the Q9000 is supposed to work but there are a few people on here who have tried them but did not have any luck , but the 8930G quadcore has the q9000 as standard fitment ...so dunno why it wont work...
But is it worth spending the cash on a Q9000 to find out it wont work ??? i dont think so !!!

Then your's is a very good processor. You may not see clear benefits to downgrade to core2duo processor. Stick with your current processor.

Even as everyone is not recommending upgrade to Q9100, Q9200 or QX9300, you can try to upgrade to one of those and report here :D

From the collected opinion in this huge thread, above said processors require micro code in the bios which Acer does not provide. Hence they are not likely to work.

Others may want to elaborate on this!

i am excited about the X9100 upgrade. But how hard is the installation from scale of 1-10?

If I can manage to build a desktop PC, would I be able to do this?

I was really excited about the compatibility of X9100, but now that I read the quad core may even be possible, so not sure what to do now. Are people still having issues with the quad core?

Also, what do you guys think of the potential of selling the old processor? Is there a market for it?

Hi Karl, I think asus is using some particular mxm connectors which make them compatible with asus lappies. Ask the ebayer.
BTW could you post you 3Dmark results with your X9100, and also you idle and full charge temperature? thanks a lot. Bye

Well i do a lot of video encoding so it makes a huge difference , but my graphics card is the main issue , going to upgrade it soon so atleast i can play games if i want to .....my old 2ghz processor was slow plus having the x9100 cpu it has now allowed the ram to run at full speed ..extra bonus .
Should of run 3d mark on old cpu before i changed it .

Should the op. system make a difference? I'm only on Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit. I noticed when I first upgraded (free from Acer) that the Index rating dropped compared to what it was on Vista....

Hi, my CPU already runs the memory at the correct speed of 1066, the bios version 1.13 fixes that issue. I don't use my laptop for much video encoding, maybe just converting video files from a mac to it's 'proper' format, so I can't really comment but as 3dmark 06 is mainly about gfx then your scores are low. I would have been interested in a back to back comparison though...

Hi Karl, I am also insterested in upgrading my gpu and I've seen this offer on ebay but after some research it appears that asus mxm graphic card are only compatible with asus laptops. I'm looking after a 3870x2 or a 4850-70, if I find something I'll tell you.
BTW have anybody of you guys with a Core 2 Extreme processor heard of the XMP (intel extreme memory profile)? Apparently it boosts the lappy speed quite a bit. I should do some research because I'm insterested to do a full upgrade of my lappy.
    Cheers and Merry Xmas

    Well, I think I have the same original model as you, T5800 cpu, 320gb hd, 4gb ram, 9600m gs but now with the x9100 cpu and my scores are as follows;

    processor - 3.0
    memory(ram) -4.3
    graphics -4.0
    gaming graphics -4.2
    primary hard drive - 5.5

Your scores, barring the cpu are what I think mine were on vista before I upgraded...

Just found out what the difference is with the two 9700M GT cards on ebay for ASUS laptops ............the connector is the wrong way round so it would mean it would fit in but would be upside down and the heatsink wont fit .....
I have actually contacted one chap off ebay and he has a 9700M GT and is going to check it out to see if its the right one ....fingers crossed :)

I've tried downloading all the drivers that I think I need and have had some improvements but still can't get as high a score as I think I should be doing for my cpu and ram.

Do you know where I can download the drivers from? I've tried Acer and Intel but havn't had any success...

    On Windows 7 32bit, x9100cpu, 4gb ddr3 ram, GeForce 9600m gs, 320gb hdd, scores are as follows;

    processor - 3.0
    memory(ram) -4.3
    graphics -4.0
    gaming graphics -5.5
    primary hard drive - 5.5

Can you confirm that your X9100 is not an Engineering sample with 1 core disabled ?

    1. Install these Nvidia drivers

    2. Install latest Intel SATA AHCI drivers from here (Intel Matrix Storage manager)

    3. If above does not help, please post a screen shot of CPUz running.

Here is a screen of CPU-Z and the Intel ID tool and also the index score after installing the suggested drivers. |The core speed is only showing as 1596 and the multiplier as x6 but they do go up to 3060 and x11. Again, some improvement but not for the cpu or ram...

In power management options, make sure high performance profile is selected.

If that didn't improve your scores, then it is definately Windows 7 WEI bug.
I remember someone mentioning about same problem in this thread. He did a complete clean install of windows 7 and then he got the correct WEI scores.

Well.... I've managed to work it out.

Having thoroughly checked the power settings, I noticed that when I looked at my advanced power settings, under processor power management there were options for limiting the % processor state.
For whatever reason mine was set to limit the max% while plugged in to 0%.
    I've now set it to 100% and get the following scores;
    Prosessor: 6.5
    Memory (RAM): 6.5
    Graphics: 4.8
    Gaming Graphics: 6.2
    Primary Hard Disk: 5.5

Thank you all for your help and ideas as to what my problem was, I doubt I would have thought to look at the power settings at all if it weren't for Sanke1's comments.

Cheers guys, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
