It's a huge diference with the ssd over the HDD its by far the best buy you can do.
All these years the CPU GPU Motherbords ddr's usb's nano technology was going forward , The only think thats the same all these years was the HDD ,and we all have the same problem to slow hdd on very fast pc.
So i bealive After the 486 to PEntioum CPU its The best step forward to PC's
I have reinstall the Old version of the Nvidia drivers 186.81 and all works great. (brightness)![]()

just received my X9100 CPU and its in and running great
the service from that guy on ebay was unbelievable
ordered on the 18th and it was here 21st and thats even over the weekend
i forgot all about the added benefit of my DDR3 ram is now running at its full 1066mhz FSB instead of 800mhz because of the old CPU -
which ebay user? do u think our 8930G can support the Q9100 or Q9200 quad core?
-
no idea about the quadcores
the ebay user is in an other post a few pages back
here
-
No 8930G does not support Q9100 an Q9200 and QX9300
The only 100% compatible fastest processor is Core 2 Extreme X9100 C2D @ 3.06 GHz
Check my post on page 101
It is this guy extremeprocessors
http://cgi.ebay.com/Intel%AE-Core%1...temQQimsxZ20091207?IMSfp=TL091207207005r23022
You may need to hurry up as that guy has only 5 processors left
Congrats mate. That makes you 5th person who has had a successful upgrade to X9100 -
Glad to hear you got your chip and all up and running , yes that guy on ebay is brilliant , its was a pleasure doing business with him ........ow yes now you get the benifit on the DDR3 ram running at full speed
.
Ordered an SSD so should be here tomorrow ...be nice and quick then
-
I would stick to an X9100 as they work 100% , i did hear that the Q9000 is supposed to work but there are a few people on here who have tried them but did not have any luck , but the 8930G quadcore has the q9000 as standard fitment ...so dunno why it wont work...
But is it worth spending the cash on a Q9000 to find out it wont work ??? i dont think so !!! -
To all that helped Thanks a million!!
The Windows 7 intallement works like a charm with all drivers.
Big thumbs up @ support
-
I believe I have the Q9000 on my laptop???
-
Then your's is a very good processor. You may not see clear benefits to downgrade to core2duo processor. Stick with your current processor.
Even as everyone is not recommending upgrade to Q9100, Q9200 or QX9300, you can try to upgrade to one of those and report here
From the collected opinion in this huge thread, above said processors require micro code in the bios which Acer does not provide. Hence they are not likely to work.
Others may want to elaborate on this! -
Pardon me, I meant to say "2.39"
-
i am excited about the X9100 upgrade. But how hard is the installation from scale of 1-10?
If I can manage to build a desktop PC, would I be able to do this? -
No problem in that case. Maybe this page will be of help to you:
http://www.mk-electronic.at/Hersteller/PDFDokumente/Acer/Mobile System(MS)/Aspire/8930.pdf -
its about a 3, it really is that simple
-
Very simple but as always be a little bit cautious
-
I was really excited about the compatibility of X9100, but now that I read the quad core may even be possible, so not sure what to do now. Are people still having issues with the quad core?
Also, what do you guys think of the potential of selling the old processor? Is there a market for it? -
thinking of upgraded my graphics card now , i have a 9600m gs and looking at getting a 9700m gt , will this one on ebay be ok , listed for an ASUS -

Cheers

Hi Karl, I think asus is using some particular mxm connectors which make them compatible with asus lappies. Ask the ebayer.
BTW could you post you 3Dmark results with your X9100, and also you idle and full charge temperature? thanks a lot. Bye -
Hi
I cannot post results for 3D mark as i have not got it ...sorry , dunno about idle temp etc ...i will see if i can find out for you -
Hi, you can download a basic version from here http://www.futuremark.com/benchmarks/3dmark06/download/
Chris -
cheers , just tried it and got score of 4485 ...graphics is letting the side down now ...need a 9700m gt
-
Thanks for the results Karl! for the temperature just dl everest or speedfan! =) bye
-
Hi, I get 5707 3DMarks from my bog standard hardware. Little point in upgrading just the CPU if you've a lowly gfx card if you're just after gameplay..
-
Well i do a lot of video encoding so it makes a huge difference , but my graphics card is the main issue , going to upgrade it soon so atleast i can play games if i want to .....my old 2ghz processor was slow plus having the x9100 cpu it has now allowed the ram to run at full speed ..extra bonus .
Should of run 3d mark on old cpu before i changed it . -
Hi all,
I have just sucessfuly upgraded to an X9100 cpu and was wondering what Windows Indexing scores on Windows 7 people were getting as mine has only gone up from 2.9 with the old t5800 to 3.0......
Cheers for the info. -
Hi
well mine before upgarde to X9100 had the same cpu as yours and mine has a 9600m gs graphics card , my index score is 4.8 but that is due to the graphics card ..
Here is all the scores for you on windows 7 64bit -
Processor -6.6
Memory (ram ) -6.6
Graphics -4.8
Gaming graphics -6.1
Primary Hard disk - 7.3
Hope it helps
-
Hi
Any anyone else got any thought on if this graphics card will fit my 8930 ? -
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Asus-M50-M50V...emQQptZPCC_Video_TV_Cards?hash=item1c0e8d4dbc
Or has anyone got any info on where to get a 9700M GT card from for my lappy ? is there any other make that is as fast or faster than a 9700 that will fit a 8930 ..like an ATI card ?
ANy help most appreciated

Should the op. system make a difference? I'm only on Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit. I noticed when I first upgraded (free from Acer) that the Index rating dropped compared to what it was on Vista....
-
what are your scores on windows 7 ? i dunno if it makes a difference using the 64bit version ....i have mine dual booting so will see what scores are on that and will report back
-
Right here is my scores on windows vista home premium 32bit -
processor - 5.7
memory(ram) -5.9
graphics -4.8
gaming graphics -5.3
primary hard drive - 5.3
my primary hard drive score on last results for windows 7 ultimate 64bit was 7.3 as that is my ssd , vista is on a 320gb 7200rpm western digital hd ...thats the only difference in hardware
hope these help -
Hi, my CPU already runs the memory at the correct speed of 1066, the bios version 1.13 fixes that issue. I don't use my laptop for much video encoding, maybe just converting video files from a mac to it's 'proper' format, so I can't really comment but as 3dmark 06 is mainly about gfx then your scores are low. I would have been interested in a back to back comparison though...
Chris -
Hi Karl, I am also insterested in upgrading my gpu and I've seen this offer on ebay but after some research it appears that asus mxm graphic card are only compatible with asus laptops. I'm looking after a 3870x2 or a 4850-70, if I find something I'll tell you.
BTW have anybody of you guys with a Core 2 Extreme processor heard of the XMP (intel extreme memory profile)? Apparently it boosts the lappy speed quite a bit. I should do some research because I'm insterested to do a full upgrade of my lappy.
Cheers and Merry Xmas -
Cheers for the info , yes please keep me informed ....i did email one off ebay and he said it should fit any laptop with mxm 2 slot , but guess he maybe wrong by what your saying ....you cannot find laptop graphics cards for lover nor money !!! ....also yes please let me know if you find out about XMP , sounds interesting .
Many Thanks
Karl ......... MERRY XMAS TO YOU ALL !!!!!!Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
Well, I think I have the same original model as you, T5800 cpu, 320gb hd, 4gb ram, 9600m gs but now with the x9100 cpu and my scores are as follows;
processor - 3.0
memory(ram) -4.3
graphics -4.0
gaming graphics -4.2
primary hard drive - 5.5
Your scores, barring the cpu are what I think mine were on vista before I upgraded... -
So these scores are what you have got on vista 32bit with the new chip or old ?? if new then they are very low !! sept hard drive .
By the way what bios version you using ? im on 1.13 -
Your processor and memory scores are very low to be honest
Here are mine in Windows 7 X86
-
Just found out what the difference is with the two 9700M GT cards on ebay for ASUS laptops ............the connector is the wrong way round so it would mean it would fit in but would be upside down and the heatsink wont fit .....
I have actually contacted one chap off ebay and he has a 9700M GT and is going to check it out to see if its the right one ....fingers crossed
-
You can't use upside GPU in 8930G as it would turn into a Christmas roast
-
mine in win 7 64 bit
processor - 6.6
memory(ram) -6.6
graphics -5.2
gaming graphics -6.2
primary hard drive - 5.3 -
my 2.2 gig cpu was only 800mhz fsb so a bios update wouldnt fix that for me
but my ddr3 is now at 1066mhz because of the new cpu -
I've tried downloading all the drivers that I think I need and have had some improvements but still can't get as high a score as I think I should be doing for my cpu and ram.
Do you know where I can download the drivers from? I've tried Acer and Intel but havn't had any success...
On Windows 7 32bit, x9100cpu, 4gb ddr3 ram, GeForce 9600m gs, 320gb hdd, scores are as follows;
processor - 3.0
memory(ram) -4.3
graphics -4.0
gaming graphics -5.5
primary hard drive - 5.5 -

Here is a screen of CPU-Z and the Intel ID tool and also the index score after installing the suggested drivers. |The core speed is only showing as 1596 and the multiplier as x6 but they do go up to 3060 and x11. Again, some improvement but not for the cpu or ram... -
In power management options, make sure high performance profile is selected.
If that didn't improve your scores, then it is definately Windows 7 WEI bug.
I remember someone mentioning about same problem in this thread. He did a complete clean install of windows 7 and then he got the correct WEI scores. -
Well.... I've managed to work it out.
Having thoroughly checked the power settings, I noticed that when I looked at my advanced power settings, under processor power management there were options for limiting the % processor state.
For whatever reason mine was set to limit the max% while plugged in to 0%.
I've now set it to 100% and get the following scores;
Prosessor: 6.5
Memory (RAM): 6.5
Graphics: 4.8
Gaming Graphics: 6.2
Primary Hard Disk: 5.5
Thank you all for your help and ideas as to what my problem was, I doubt I would have thought to look at the power settings at all if it weren't for Sanke1's comments.
Cheers guys, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. -
Glad you got it sorted
-
Hey mate
What's the SSD score on WEI ? -
Don't know for Karl but I've got a Corsair extreme X32 and WEI give me the score of 7.9 =)
-
It's interesting, how exactly the same computers can have very different scores. Here's mine, with latest drivers:
