I just received the Acer Aspire 8930G-844G32Bn laptop and I bought two 120GB WD Black Scorpio hard drives (SATA2 16MB cache).

After I installed the drives, I expect to set the drives to Raid 0, but I couldn't find the settings anywhere and it is not even in the BIOS. Where is the setting to configure the drives to Raid 0?

    Thanks

Hi, raid cannot be done with this laptop as there is no raid hardware support for it built in...

Thats because the raid settings options are not listed in the bios firstly and secondly chris is rite there is no raid harware support yet out there with any laptop.......

Look it this way guys Acer Aspire 8930G uses the latest hardware from intel and is based on upcoming montevina platform but deosnt support the Montevina processor because of the cooling solution provided is insufficient and would fry ur laptop, its just the technology used in it....for marketing purpose.....

Coming to raid config there is yet long way before we can all change/modify in laptop..

Actually, at least on Gateway FX-78XX series there is RAID support (which was enabled through BIOS upgrade BTW)...

    You can do raid.

But only software not hardware to do this you need to into disk management in vista and convert the discs to dynamic disks (this cannot be undone)

Then you can mirror, stripe or span the disks.

Striped is RAID 0 - no backup
Mirror is RAID 1 - backs up

I'm unsure of what spanning actually does.

As said before the 8930 has no raid controller so its left up to software raid.

    Hello,

I want to buy 8930G-734G32Bn and also 2 ssd's to put in it. I see you also have 2 ssd's in your laptop , so I guess my question if this is possible is already answered :).

Can you please tell me if you had any problems installing the system ? I would like to install Windows 2003 server on it . Could you share some pointers ? Is there something to watch out for ?

    Thank you

"no raid harware support yet out there with any laptop......."

Not true... Amilo 3650 has hardware raid supported. They uses GM45 Intel chipset where as Acer 8930G uses PM45 Intel chipset.

No problems installing the system, just stuffed the drives in and away I went. As far as raid, it has been answered here but some of us are still scepticle of the answer.
