    Hello all.

I have read guidelines of battery maintenance. It says the best is to keep charge level of the battery at a certain level: 40% for storage, around 80% for standby. I am using same levels for my office laptop Lenovo T400. It is set via Thinkpad Power management utility and works marvelous! Hovewer I was not able to find similar settings in Acer Power management SW. Vista doesn't have that either (as it seems to me ). My main idea is to keep the battery attached and serve as a standby power backup, but minimize charge level to 40%. It is sufficient to protect against short power interruptions or roam around the house from one socket to other.

Anybody have a solution to set charging thresholds/levels?

    br, qwertM3.

Too many folk get hung up on all this :) I think.
My advice for what it's worth, let the charging circuit do what it was designed to do. I leave my battery connected all the time, use mostly on AC, and occasionally fully discharge. After two and half years battery still seems pretty much as when new. 90/100 mins run time on an Aspire9301 running Vista (Custom Power Saver plan) isn't bad at all. I certainly wouldn't go looking for software to try and modify the charge characteristics.
I know this reply isn't what you asking... just my own views.
If you are worried over it, do your own benchmark test for runtime under set and known conditions, then you can always compare back :)
    Don't worry !

well i guess newer laptops have auto cut-off charging functions.. hmm.. anyway when you plug in the fully charged battery it says (Fully Charged, Plugged In) and when u plug in a 40% charged battery it says (Charging, Plugged In) so i guess its ok for us to leave our battery in the laptop which using AC power huh?

Lithium Ion cells CANNOT accept a trickle charge without damage and so all charging circuits do cut off the charge at 100%, the battery is then allowed to self discharge until it reaches around 96% when it will be "topped off" again.
So when the battery is fully charged, that's it, all current input to it is stopped. So yes, leave it in all the time, and if you always use AC power just occasionally give the battery some use, even to the point of cut off.

Thank you for your advice Mooly.
I will definetly not look for any extra software to modify charging parameters. If it is not supported by Acer power management let it be this way. Probably over the time they will grow to the level of IBM/Lenovo.

Wish everybody good use of their HW, wish that SW is catching up with HW.
