I have been looking into purchasing a desktop replacement laptop and the 8930g seemed to be exactly what i was after.

However due to the fact that the laptop has been out for quite some time now i was concerned a successor would come out within the next 1-2 months for a similar amount of money.

I tried searching for an 8940, as the 8920 was first and then the 8930, i have found no 40 but i have found a press release for a recently announced 8935:

    http://www.insidehw.com/News/Hardware/Acer-Announced-Aspire-8935-and-5935.html

There is very little information available in english about this model atm on google but obviously i would like to know if this is going to be the successor for the 8930 and whether it is worth waiting for this model to come out with what i presume to be superior specifications.

What i am actually holding out for though is a graphics card option that would be higher than then 9700 option found within the 8930.

Anyway, i was hoping other people might know something about this 8935 and if it was indeed the follow-up to the 8930 or that perhaps it is unrelated to it and i may as well just proceed with the 8930 purchase now.

I have found a german forum that has a little more about it, Dodgy translation:

    http://babelfish.yahoo.com/translat...ed-backlight.html&lp=de_en&btnTrUrl=Translate

    And the original german forum:

    http://www.acer-userforum.de/news-a...eiten-aspire-5935-8935-mit-led-backlight.html

It seems that the 8935 will contain a ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4670 XT with 1 gig of vram and will be released at the start of may.

Does anyone know how well this HD 4670 XT 1 gig will perform against the 9700m gpu on the 8930?

Well, considering the Aspire 6935 and 6930 were released within months of each other, I doubt it's the successor. If anything, a more upscale model.
The Radeon HD 4670XT should be a decent upgrade to the 9700M GT, but if you're looking for an Acer with something stronger than that, don't look for an Acer.
Remember, Gateway is owned by them now. And Gateway means the FX series. :)

It got priced here in Canada - take a look.
$1,399 for the cheapest model, $2,099 for the quad-core behemoth variant.
Also made an Acer Chaser post about this specific thing.

It's just a HD 4670 w/ GDDR3. The code name M96XT (as opposed to the M96, which is the HD 4650 - the lower clocked version). The only cards w/ GDDR5 are the HD 4860/4870.

iirc the difference between the 6935 and the 6930 was that one had a numpad and the other had a cinedash

seeing as how the 8930 has both, i dont know what the 8935 would be
