Since the 8943G is available in some places already I am optimistic that the 5943G is not far behind (next month).

I would guess pricing would be in the $1400 region depending on configuration.

I don't mind paying $1400 for that but I just can't pay the $2000 they are asking for the 8943. I am also optimistic that it will be out next month. Why delay it anymore?

This isn't really a 8943, and it's not a 5943 ... it's a hybrid of both, built just for FutureShop Canada with some "odd" specs. $1099 though - is it worth it folks?

5943G is available and has been available since mid june in Norway, models are from i5-450m up to i7-720qm, different versions with either HD5650 or HD5850 (GDDR3 though :( ) is available.

These are model numbers found here:

    LX.PWM02.008 - i7-720QM/640Gb HDD/4Gb/HD5850/bluray.
    LX.PWL02.004 - i5-450m/500Gb HDD/4Gb/HD5850/DVDRW.
    LX.PZY02.050 - i5-450m/640Gb HDD/6Gb/HD5650/DVDRW.
    LX.PWH02.008 - i7-720QM/500Gb HDD/4Gb/HD5650/DVDRW.

I might take an look at the i5-450m/HD5850 version soon ;)

just bought a 8943 at Media Markt here in Germany at he 19% discount this week.
now: i want to upgrade the Cpu to a i7-840qm. at the moment a i7-720qm is build in.

is this very tricky? is there a way not to loose the guaranty? for excample letting it do by a computer store?

i also tried to OC the Ati video card but while opening the tools i installed i always got a bluescreen. cause of the Acer installed driver?

That's only $1099 for the 18.4 inch version?? That's including vat I take it? How easy would it be to buy a power adaptor for that laptop because I live in England and we don't have the same plug and voltage as the Americans.

Cloverfield - no, that's the non HST price. With HST it'll be $1242.98 (HST = Harmonized Sales Tax a Canadian way of saying VAT)

EDIT: I believe, if it's a 'standard' PC power connector between wall and brick, they are like $2 here in Canada.

the core i5 version has less features:

only 2 ram slots instead of 4 in the i7 version
attention: if you buy a book with only 1 HDD you need to buy a new backcover for installing a second hdd. someone in an other forum told that it could not be closed with the second hdd installed.

in germany there are versions with build in bluetooth 3.0 and dvb-t tuners

That is too cool. Unfortunately that site doesn't ship outside of Canada. There's no way I'm gonna find the 8943G for $1099 anywhere else :(

Sorry buddy, I don't trust the human race that much. I'm not saying you wouldn't send it to me but I can't risk that much money. Doesn't matter. I've found a similar price in my country, think I might just buy that. Can't be bothered waiting for the 5943G anymore. Could be weeks.

Wow, what cpu do you plan to swap it to?

As far as I know, there isn't any blueprints out on how to remove the 5943g yet.

The best luck will be trial and error. the 720qm is serving me well so far actually, so why the swap?

    well i have a 8943g.
the 720qm is quiete good. but you can get a 840qm for 280€ in europe and the seller will take my 720qm for 120€. so its quiete cheap an a little speed bump.
but perhaps i will swap in a 940xm. i dont know yet. i just tried to open the back and get to the cpu but removen all the screws keeps the back on the keyboard and i dont want to damage it. thats why i need the sevice guide

hmm, 720qm to 820qm will have not alot of noticible difference unless you're a benchmark freak..

    otherwise, 940xm :D
