    1)Check Windows Event Viewer
2)Update all drivers from Manufacturer site
stock drivers tend to be buggy especially when it is Acer and they don't bother to update.
3)Uninstall all eCrap from your Computer
4)One Anti-Virus on your computer and uninstall all third party firewall.

    I have

Windows Defender and Avast Antivirus but I didn't want Avast, the person whom I got this from gave it to me with it. I can crack + install nod32 which is the best I've seen, but idk if it'll have enough time to download it without freezing. Umm. What drivers? The sound, and video, .etc ones? And is ecrap?

    Just install MSE
Legal, Free, Simple to Use, Low Resource Consumption & well integrated into Windows.
eCrap = All Acer Empowering Software (ePower, eRecovery etc).

I agree with weinter. It looks like there many programs running in the background making the laptop to stall or crash. You need to uninstall the program that you don't use. You don't need two antivirus, the MSE is more than enough and very light.
Believe me if you do a clean installation of W7, your problem will vanish, unless Acer is going to install all the blot/crap-ware again.
Also avoid using IE8, try firefox. In my experience some add-ons in IE8 in vista are causing similar problems.
By the way, how many processes are running in your laptop? You can check in the Task Manager (don't forget to press ''show processes from all users''. For instance, right now, I have 45 running processes.

As a software developer we kinda look out for our own if you know what I mean, you should really watch what you post in these public forums. It might come back to bite you later.

    Uninstall
Avast (only one anti-virus per system)
    Empowering Crap
    Type in Run "msconfig"
    Disable Startups you don't need
