Hi. My sister currently has a Dell Inspiron 1300. She said it's too heavy. She mostly carry it around from home to work and at work. The main thing is weight.

She teaches music. The notebook will mainly be used for internet, e-mail and ms office. Average battery life will be okay because she will using it plugged it most of the time I think.

So she found this model, Acer Aspire AS2920 at Costco. She said it's less than $1000 cdn, and comes with 2year Costco warranty.

    The specs are:

    12.1" screen
    Intel Core 2 Duo T5450
    2GB DDR2
    160GB hard drive
    DVD +/- RW rewriter
    Windows Vista Premium
    802.11 a/b/g wireless
    1.95kg

I think it should be fast enough for her use.

But Acer seem to have a bad reputation. Is it because of build quality? Is it that bad that she should consider another brand?

    Thank you.

My experience is that acer is okay. Every brand has problems now and then.
I've had excellent results from acer support.
