I've just recently purchased an Acer 5552G laptop and came about a disturbing issue while playing Minecraft a couple of times.
Before I continue on I will post the specs:
Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
CPU Type: AMD Phenom II Dual-Core N660 3.0GHz
Memory Size: 4GB DDR3
Hard Disk: 500GB
HDD RPM: 5400rpm
Graphics Card: AMD Radeon HD 6650M
Video Memory: 1GB DDR3 VRAM
Now on to the issue... A couple of times while playing I've experienced a random and rather loud glitchy noise that would occur (seemed to come from the upper left hand corner where one of the vents are), immediately followed by a quick black screen and then the laptop would quickly restart itself. To be fair, the only time I've experienced this issue (twice now) is after I've been playing Minecraft for a while, as in a hour or longer. I never experience this issue at any point in time during general use of the laptop.
I was told it was most likely a heating issue at which time I was instructed to download Speedfan and/or Core Temp to check my laptop temperatures. It was then I noticed that my laptop runs normally at about 50C and when in Minecraft it can get up to about 70C fairly quickly. After placing my hand up to the same vent I mentioned above, I can definitely tell by the air that's being pushed out that it's fairly hot.
My biggest concern here is, is this a general heating issue, a design flaw causing the heating problem AND/OR could it be that there is something wrong with the graphics card, CPU, motherboard, etc.? If so, I still have have the ability to return it for another new one and have an additional 3-year warranty through SquareTrade should it ever need to be repaired or have the ability to be refunded the full purchase price if it can't be fixed.
I have friends who have laptops that run much hotter regularly and get much hotter when gaming (which I know still isn't good considering 50C is fairly high for a laptop to be running normally). So I'm a bit perplexed at what the exact issue should be and what exactly I should try and do to resolve this issue. Whether it be sending it in for a new one if it is in fact a hardware problem or if it's a design flaw, finding an alternative to help restrict the heating issue such as elevating the laptop for the air to flow better and buying a efficient cooling pad.
Any advice any of you could add would certainly be a big help, thanks ahead of time.
EDIT: I also have the current video drivers installed for my graphics card.
