Forgot to ask, anyone with a DL624 wireless router and this notebook's Intel 3945ABG encounter any weirdness?

Here are what I have seen:
    1. DHCP did not work
    2. When transmitting a high volume of data over wireless it tends to kick everyone else off.

I have mine setup to 802.11G only and am using a WPA key with the 7 or 9 dbi high gain antenna.

    Any help is appreciated. Thanks

But when I go out without the cooler, the lappy get really hot . Can you tell me about the "Notebook Harwdware Control" ? I really want u to tell me about that . Thanks

You'll want the model off Newegg -> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16834115246

I haven't tried Oblivion or BF2 on mine yet, but FEAR runs well enough for me to play, with "Computer" set on high and "Graphics" set on medium. I haven't taken the time to try a custom performance config though.

Hi I got this notebook about a month ago, seems to be OK. The only thing wrong with it is that the w & a & s & Fn keys do not always work. Most of the time they do but they sometimes don’t  . Does anyone have the same problem? Are notebook keyboards replicable?

Max, maybe you're just not pushing the keys hard enough or at the right angle :)
If it's related to gaming, maybe you could find something like a USB programmable gamepad for gaming.

satan, I believe it is the best deal out there right now.
That's just another version of the same model (there are four in total). If you're going to be gaming on it, you may want to consider the version on Newegg.

Get the newer version with the x1600..... i have one and never looked back, i guess the same one blacklantern has above ^ Less problems than earlier models and good quality too. You'll be surprised when you open the package and it looks better than you think, i know i did... oh and i got it from newegg, A++ service and shipping

How big is the difference between the x1400 and the x1600? I don't know if I would want to opt for an extra gb of ram or a better graphics card.

Are a lot of big problems fixed in the new version?

Generally ATI X1600 delivers twice the scores when benchmarker against the X1400. The sweet point of RAM size is at 2 GB right now.

Im with blacklantern... you can always upgrade your RAM, not your video card, and like i said before, judging from all the reviews i've read, the new versions have less flaws/defects. If you get the x1400 and you can't play games, whats the point of the 2 gigs of RAM. I have 1 gig and i can run whatever programs i want at the same time... the choice is yours but generally, only a minimal amount of people ever need more than 1 gig... but there is always the choice to upgrade in the future

I'm not trying to hyjack this thread or anything, but after reading the inital review of the 5672wmli I was impressed with the build quality and decided to upgrade my Acer Travelmate 4000lci to the new Aspre 5672wmli.

If anyone wants to see benchmarks on the x1600 as well as more pictures take a look here.

I am by no means trying to steal the thread, and I would be more than willing to post the exact same review here if you want. Just a heads up for ya! ;)

Check the mouse/touchpad settings in Control panel. Usually there should be a setting to toggle this behaviour

I use the Nero Express part of it, here is what i get when i try to burn a cd.. it acts like its going to burn and then i get this every time...

Note on cooling the 5672: (BIOS 3224, x1400 gpu)
I have tried a number of things to cool this laptop.
What I have finally done is put AS5 on the cpu and ATI vid card, along with remove the cover for the HardDrive. Since it sits on my desk 90% of the time, lack of cover is not a problem.

    Here are the results:
Using AS5, cpu temp reported under heavy load is 5 degrees centigrade(sp?) cooler! No undervolting performed yet.
With the HD cover off, the palm rest is barely warm, touchpad is not hot, and HD runs a couple of degrees cooler (I don't know by how much since I didn't write them down).

I have it sitting on a notebook cooler right now, which is off, so even if I had to move it around the house it won't be an issue for me.

Just thought I'd share my findings. :)

EDIT: Notebook cooler I use is: BYTECC Notebook Cooling Pad ( Aluminum ) Powered by USB port Model NC-500

Hmm, Mine really doesnt really get hot enough to do all that. I have the model with the X1600 vid card though, maybe they fixed the heat issue a little in this one? THe top touchpad and palm rest get warm, but not much warmer than other laptops.. The hard drive area / cover doesnt really get too hot, so thats good. The only things that gets pretty hot is a few spots on the bottom of the laptop for me, it can kinda make you legs sweat if you use it for a long time, but it doesnt really bother me that much at all. Overall i am very satisfied with this laptop! Oh yeah, and my heat findings are with the laptop all cranked up and plugged into ac power, running alot of heavy programs. Running on battery it is much cooler.

I did a fresh XP home isntall, I assume it's the same though. Visit Acer's support page and look for something there.. http://www.acerpanam.com/synapse/fo...m/us&siteid=7293&areaid=7&formid=3394#results. I know that I set it up when I did a fresh install and they currently work, though to be honest I don't know exactly what made it work. Try Launch Manager, that made all the buttons on the top right of the keyboard work as well as the email indicator (email button lights up when a new message is received on a specified pop3 account).

Is this one at Walmart the same as the one at Newegg?

    http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.do?product_id=5013899

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16834115246

I did a comparison, but I just wanted to make sure - the Walmart one is about $30 more, but the 2 and 3 yr warranties are over $250 cheaper! Does anyone know about the reliability of a Walmart warranty? I've never had a problem returning merchandise there within 90 days, but I've never bought an item with a 2-3 yr warranty from them either.

I just bought the 5672 with the x1600 and I love it so far. As far as plans , it will be getting the 2.0ghz core duo or better(depends on what my parents and/or wife choose :) ) and 2 gigs of ram soon. It performs great now and will do much better with the upgrades. But the one thing that really gets me is that on the initial startup I got lik 70 running processes and a idle ram at almost 500mb. Now this was before I loaded AV, spyware and adware softeware. After the tweaks I have it down to mid-high 50s for running processes and around 400 mb+ at idle (~430mb). But come on this is ridiculously high.

Even with this I was able to run BF2 while running aim at the same time with out thrashing (barley). Now I installed xp pro sp1 with all the acer drivers on the other partion and it works OK but there are some hardware issues I need t tend to. My question is to you what have you guys done to your 5672 to fix or remedy these issues??

yeah It runs great as is, but with the ram and cpu upgrade and cleaning the running processes it will be a night and day pc. Since the h/w issues with xp pro sp1 I think Ill keep the acer xp home partition running.

I bought this notebook last week and something odd is occuring. When plugged in I can surf the net very quickly, but when I unplug the computer and go to battery, it seems to "slow" and applications hang. I basically can't use the internet when the computer is unplugged. I can't really tell if other applications slow as well. I have been through all the power settings and to no avail. Does anyone have any thought? thanks.

my wirelss router is not the fastest (not g), 11mbs but it works fine when the notebook is plugged in.

Well, as a first course of action I would remove the Acer power management software. I actually removed all of the acer software because most of it is useless junk. This may or may not take a small hit on battery life, but you can always add it back at the driver/software section of Acer's site. The power management software will squeeze an extra 30 minutes or so out of your battery life, but obviously at the cost of performance. I uninstalled the software and it seems to me a lot mre responsive running off of battery power now.

Are you sure the power scheme you're using isn't throttling the system? Go to Control Panel -> Power Options and check. I'd give more in-depth instructions, but I still use the Acer software so I'm not sure what the Windows version is like.

Look for the Realtek tray icon, it looks like a reddish-colored speaker. Double-click it to open the Realtek software, or right-click to see some other options.

thank you for the responses. I figured it out, the internal intel wirless card has a power manager which is set to default, at default (which seemed to be "low") it didn't have enough power to support my router (80211b). I took it off default and the increased the power. I assume you can only use the default if you have a "g" router.

The other problem I still have is that my headset doesn't work when plugged into the input in the front of the computer. It works when I plug it in half way, but the sound quality is not great. Do you need a specific headset for this computer?, this one is a altec lansing $10 ear bud type set. Does the spdif relate to the headset?

Hi I have an Altec Lansing Headset, it normally works super fine with other PCs, but for some reason the sound in this one is low, i read a couple of posts about it but most say its something from the hardware they used (not settings). Does you headset come with the normal jack for sound cards ?
