Hi all,
I just purchased an Acer Aspire AS5733-6696 (Intel Core i3-380M, Integrated Intel HD Graphics, 4GB ram, etc..) for my parents to use.
The image on the laptop LCD itself is crystal clear. But when I plug my external monitor into the Acer via the VGA output (the only external monitor connection available), the image on the external monitor is blurry--it looks semi-normal but text is blurred and everything is slightly off.
I've tested it with another monitor and my TV. Same story. I also used my friend's Acer Aspire AS5742Z-4824 (identical model, but with HDMI and P6100 CPU) and tested his VGA output. Same problem. HDMI output was crystal clear however.
I've done the usual driver updates, messing with settings, restore to default, blah blah. No luck. Has anyone else encountered this problem and been able to fix it?
(Side question: If I end up returning this, does any one know a way I can just restore the laptop HDD to default without having to burn the recovery disks and use those? I can't seem to access the Acer system partition to use that).
Thanks!

Press the Auto button on the external monitor. The Phase (and possibly Clock) settings on the display are slightly off.

some vga cables have less pins than others sometimes those missing pins cause the blurryness i don't really remember why but, it was something about ghosting or something. i tried another cable and sure enough the video was at full quality.

Thanks for the responses. I tried the auto adjust (on both monitors) and it did not help.
The VGA cable does have one less pin than older cables, but since the cable and monitor work no problem with other, non Acer laptops, I'd rather just return this model and not have to deal with it. Thanks anyway!
