    Hey Everyone,

I recently had to purchase a new laptop for my job and I was looking for something relatively cheap, but something that still had decent specifications. I looked everywhere and I spotted a great deal at OfficeMax. I found an Acer Aspire AS5742Z-4646 for just $379. It had great specifications for what I planned to use it for , it looked great, and it also had a great price point. I purchased it and it worked perfectly for about a day, and then the problems started. First of all, the microphone could not detect my voice at all, and when I increased the sensitivity the quality went from bad to terrible. The microphone problem didn't really bug me that much, but then bigger problems started to unravel themselves. One morning I turned the laptop on and started to use it, and it suddenly started to get very hot. Then it just turned off, which I assumed was a safety feature if it got too hot. I thought that the problem would just fix itself so I waited a couple of hours and tried using it again, but the same problem occurred. Eventually I returned the laptop. Overall, if it had worked and not crashed, it would have been amazing, but it was buggy (probably built from low quality parts), and I was sorry to have to let it go. It just didn't live up to its specifications.

I had this same problem!!!! I was in love with the laptop on the first day, and then it just started to overheat and turn-off. I guess that it is just a defect because I looked at the website of OfficeMax and it looks like they have discontinued it. I returned mine a couple of days ago, but I am disappointed that OfficeMax would sell me such a low-quality product.

Wow, I didn't know that so many people were having this same problem. I also had this same issue with my same model Acer laptop, also purchased from Office Max. I thought that I was getting an amazing deal because it said that it was lowered from $550 or something, but then I started to have problems with it. Mine actually lasted for two days before it started to have the overheating problem. It was exactly the same as your guys', the laptop just gets really hot and then turns off. I thought that this was a problem with just my laptop, so I exchanged it for the same model. When the same thing happened with the exchange laptop, I just returned it. I ended up buying an HP g62-something from Bestbuy for $400, it has pretty much the same specifications, and it hasn't broken yet, so I don't think that I will be buying any Acer products anymore. I expected better from Office Max.

Wow, thanks for posting these guys. I was just about to purchase this from the Office Max website when I decided to look for some reviews. Wow, won't be purchasing that! As a long time OfficeMax customer, I didn't expect them to sell something of this quality.

Actually, it looks like it has been discontinued on their website. Well, at least more people won't be scammed now.

I can assure you higher-up lines of Acers do not have any debilitating issues like that...my TimelineX runs cooler than my friend's new Thinkpad when playing games.

I was in Office Max and they were pushing this one hard, even offered me another 10% off(floor model). I figured I would check out the reviews first.
I did see this one model in 2 different Office Max stores. for just under $400.
