Hello
I have an Acer Aspire 5610. every time I switch the laptop on a warning bubble appears warning me that my firewall is not turned on. I go to my control panel and the firewall icon there but when I open the firewall settings it is on. Do I need to download a new version or something?? Not seen this before.
A guy also attempted to fix my laptop when it broke last year and since then the acer orbican webcam hasn't worked. the message says to check connection and that it isnt being used by another user. Do I need to download a new driver??
Thank you!
Kate

Hi there
There can be many things that cause this problem. For instance you might have another firewall program that is causing the problem or a virus or a trojan, you get the idea. When the bubble message comes, on click on it and it should give you the option to turn it on.
Can you give us some details for the operating system you have, XP or Vista, which version (home, basic, pro, ultimate) and which service pack (1 or 2 or 3)?
In the meanwhile, try to do a virus scan with your antivirus and a spyware scan with the windows defender (if you don't have it download from Microsoft). Also you can visit the Acer support page and update the drivers for the Orbicam Acer AS 5610. You can check if the device is working properly by going Control panel > device mamager > and there in the imaging devices the orbicam should be listed > right click > properties and check the decice status. Is it disabled or something?
Can you also give us some details for the problem you had and your friend fixed it (and if you know, how)? -
Hi
Thanks for the info
I have a Windows XP Media Centre Edition. Not sure how I check service pack edition - sorry! I've checked properties under orbicam but cant see that it is disabled
I have clicked the balloon relating to the firewall problem but it wont let me do anything from there - I have to go into the Control Panel. Cant remember exactly what it says but will check.
The problem I had previously i that my screen thought it was smaller than it was - I had a chunk of about an inch on the right side that was black. Needles to say I wont be going back to the guy that 'fixed' it as after he fiddled with it my camera, shortcut music keys dont work and the screen problem is still intermittent!
I'm actually debating getting a new laptop as the battery is completely shot as well - would I need an external hard drive to ensure I can move everything? -
If you checked the properties, you would have seen that it was labelled as 'device is working properly', right?
I am not very good with XP, especially media centre edition since I don't have one right now. You can check the Service pack by going > Right click Computer > Properties > and I think the first or second tab should give the Windows edition and the Service pack. You should have service pack 3. Otherwise try to update to it. It should be helpful.
The screen problem you have, it might be because of the graphic drivers. Try to update Windows generally.
If you choose to go for a new laptop, you should get an external caddy case for a 2.5'' hard drive disk (your laptop's HDD). Then you can remove the HDD from your laptop (it should be easy) and put it in the caddy and you can use it as an external hard drive. So you can transfer all your data to the new laptop or keep them there. You will not be able to transfer software in that way. You will need to install the software from the DVDs or CDs. This way is cheaper and quicker than buying an external hard drive and then transfer all the files from the old laptop to the external and then to the new laptop.
