I recently purchased an Acer Aspire 7741G-6426 which comes with a 640gb 5400rpm Toshiba HDD. I wanted a faster and more reliable hard drive so I purchased the Scorpio Black 500gb 7200rpm as well. (I know it seems stupid but I don't really need that much space, so I didn't mind the lesser volume). My computer didn't come with an windows install disk, so I put the Scorpio Black in an external case and cloned the computers drive onto it. I thought that was all I needed to do so I turned off the computer, removed the power, and swapped the drives. When I turned it on I got "Disk Read Error, Press Ctr+Alt+Delete" which I did, but it just kept going back to that and refused to boot. I feel like there must be some really obvious answer to what I am doing wrong here, and it is going to make me look really stupid. Any Ideas?

*Also when I switched the drives back, it booted right up.

Try different cloning software it usually solves the issue.

First thing you do is MAKE YOUR RECOVERY DISKS and especially the driver disk. Do nothing until you have recovery media ready to go.

Then you can clone, fresh install, recover etc and no matter how bad you screw things up, you can put in the 640G drive and run a recovery on it if you absolutely have to.

Ok, i tried a few of those things but nothing worked. I ended up just wiping the drive clean and installing windows from scratch. The drivers were a bit of a pain but its working great now! Thanks for the responses!

I tried the same thing on a 5315 and got the same result. Wouldn't lite
off. So as you I had to reformat and install using the 5315. I don't know
why Acer's are like this at least mine is and now, it looks like yours too..
