I have an Acer Aspire One 8GB SSD version that is 3 months old.

The battery is saying it is charging but when I put it to run on battery power (take it out of the outlet) it shuts down. The battery meter says unknown battery and has a red X through it.

    Has the battery gone bad?

most probably the battery is dead. can you check to see if it's voltage is below 7 volts ? you have to take the battery out , you need a voltage tester. the thing is i don't know where to connect the voltage tester.

you should do something like this if you want to go ahead with it. http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/7333/img9676sd0.jpg

i found the picture on google, it's from an asus eepc battery so keep in mind that it is not the same as yours.

i'm not responsible for what may go wrong.

you're better off just buying a new one or replacing your's if it's still under warranty.
