With these limited processing power netbooks, it seems that running programs like Truecrypt for data security is out of the question.
Just wondering if owners of these netbooks are doing anything about data security (safeguard data if lost or stolen).

Bitlocker portable for external storage ( if needed ) and nothing else really. I embeded a self destruct script in windows. If my netbook was stolen, I can remotely destory/corrupt all my data through the internet with a click of a button. If I have an assignment on my netbook, I can also remotely connect to it, take the file, then corrupt the data on the netbook. All my data are backed up as well.

There are many variations or types of scripts.

    A very simple one is

    shutdown -s -t 00

then place this under startup folder and add this to the startup list for safemode as well. Then the person who stole your laptop probably won't be able to use your computer

remote excute hdd erasing program is feasible as well

    e.g. start C:\program files\whatever\whatever.exe

You can remote control computers using microsoft live mesh from anywhere areound the world and excute any script/programs on another computer.

you can even use it to identify someone's IP address and find out approximately where the person who stole your computer is then report it to the police and get your laptop back.
