    Hey all:

    After a day of wrestling with the AO521 netbook, I finally & successfully removed Win 7 Starter and installed Win XP SP3 & tracked down all the various drivers I needed - except one (or two?). I don't have any software that enables the LCD backlight controls to work (Fn+Left/Right Arrow) nor does the video switch controls work (Fn+F5). The controls DO work before Win XP loads up, so I'm guessing XP takes over the controls from the BIOS.

    I tried various versions of Acer's ePower Management Application, but they all say "Sorry! This operating system is not supported" - even though they come in a zip file labelled XPx86 (e.g. ePower_Acer_5.00.3003_XPx86_AOD260). I suspect that's because the app is looking for an Intel chipset and finds an AMD chipset in the AO521 - but that's a guess.

    Any suggestions on what I can do to reenable the LCD backlight controls would be appreciated. (The video switch is less important - I can control multiple monitors from Window's display control)

    Yes, both Launch Manager 4.x and 2.x were tried without success. Any other suggestions? Thanks!

    Can you tell what battery model your AO521 uses?

    I put xp on my 521, all went well but I have no sound. I have tried a couple of drivers including the one that came with win7 but it says no audio device found. Please help. I have been fighting this for 5 days now.

    @baybal: I'll have to get back to you - does it matter to the brightness controls as to which battery I have?

    @19114life: Try searching for audio_conexant_xp_090421.zip - that's the driver I'm using.

    No, I'm asking for my personal interest. But I may suggest that European and USA versions have slightly different hardware.

    Hi,
    Normally, this functionality is provided by Launch Manager which doesn't work for you (I am assuming you got the version for your AO521).
    Perhaps you can do something with the ATI CCC. If I remember correctly, you can configure shortcut keys.
