I just received my new Aspire One (I actually bought two from Circuit City) and one will NOT boot up. (The second works fine!) I've fully charged the battery. It will boot up to a warning message that a password is incorrect. (It won't stay on the screen long enough to read completely.) The machine seems to loop through the startup process a couple times, and then just powers down. I've tried stopping at SETUP (F2), but it will power down in that screen, too.

I've searched for help on the Acer site, with no success (god, I'd love a telephone number to call!). Has anyone else experienced a similar problem or have any suggestions? I'm a competent user, but have exhausted my technical expertise!

When I disassembled mine I had a similar problem... when i left the fan unplugged accidentally. Can you hear yours running? The "heatsink" on these netbooks is essentially a flat piece of metal that air flows over and it overheats VERY quickly.

The only thing I can hear is a click when it turns itself off. This problem is occurring on my initial attempt to power on a new machine. It seems to hang-up when it reaches a warning message that an incorrect password is being provided. I have done NOTHING with this machine, as it fails to remained powered for more than a couple of cycles through the Acer splash screen.

I believe, on the initial startup, that I saw a "Welcome to Windows" screen that seemed to indicate a config process...but I looked away and the next thing I knew the machine was off!

If you cannot hear the fan come on it may be broken or not plugged in. It sounds like this is a new machine, just take it back to the store and get a new one.
