    Hi Guys

I have a Aspire 5101 & have purchased 2 x 2GB ram,(which is the maximum the laptop supports). Not sure whether both the memory slots are underneath or whether 1 of the memory slots in under the keyboard.
Don't really want to start unscrewing everything to find that i can't put it back together.
Have searched left, right & centre, but havn't been able to locate both memory slots, plzzzzzzzzzzzz help....

    Removing the RAM Module

    1. Release the four screws holding the thermal module cover.
    2. Remove the thermal module cover.
    3. Pull the RAM module locks at the same time as the arrows indicate.
    4. The RAM module will pop up then detach it. Repeat the anterior step to remove another RAM module.

    Hi Andy

Installed 2 x 2GB ram, but the tp memory slot clip won't return to its vertical position when I slide the RAM into place. The anterior RAM, no problem..
When I check Acer Empowering Tech memory status, it shows 2048MB for some reason it won't recognise both the 2x 2GB ram.

Could it be because of the clip no clipping into place ??

Yes, it is definitely because of the clip. When fitting, the RAM module is slanted, push it down as far as it can go into the slot, and then push the RAM module down at the front tip to align it horizontally, and make sure the clips lock into it. If they won't, that means that the RAM is not securely fit, all the pins are not in contact, hence the RAM won't be detected. Don't worry, you won't break anything, just be a bit firm and precise. :)

    Hi Andy

Tried to be a little more precise but have noticed a hairline fracture on the clip, what do you advise, system properties is still showing 2.62GB of RAM, however, Acer empowering tech/esettings management is showing current memory size as 4GB
    Slot 1 2GB
    Slot 2 2GB

    :(

Just examine the hairline fracture and see how bad it is. Or if you could upload a clear image of it, it would be helpful.
Rest assured, 4GB is recognized. You have a 32-bit OS which does not recognise 4GB completely. You would need a 64-Bit OS to do so.

Can you also upload a screenshot, of the Task Manager > Performance (click on the performance tab in tskmgr) Page ??

    Hi Andy
Just a recap, you were right, 4GB had been recognised the problem is, (as u siad earlier) the OS i'm currently running, 32 bit. I'd need my 64 bit to maximise the full 4GB.
Either way I can see the difference.
Thanks Very much for your advise
    (& patience)

Well, yeah. You can always upgrade to the 64-Bit version of your OS (you'll just need to give MS a small call ;))....
I think you should, because more than 1 GB ram is being wasted in those 32-Bit memory addresses.

And that fracture doesn't look bad, its ok if the RAM is seated securely.
