I currently have the S7-392-9460 from the Microsoft Store and I can confirm this. The paperwork states that it only has 1 year manufacturer's warranty.

I just noticed this:
Acer Aspire S7-392 Ultrabook
So according to acer the 392 is available in Germany. Looked through a few german shops and found these:
Acer Aspire S7-392-74508G25tws Intel Core i7-4500U 8GB 256GB SSD WQHD Touch W8
ACER Notebook »Aspire S7-392-74508G25tws« | OTTO
I dont speak any german, but according to the first link, they figure to get them on Septermber 12th. Obviously links like these tend to change but that's the closest I've come to any info on release dates in europe. -
I just got an answer from Acer Norway on Facebook, and they said it would be released here end of September
-
Danish release date anyone??

My S7 was suppose to arrive today ( next day air ) via Amazon. But I watched ( with horror) as there was no activity on the tracking number since Sunday. I just got a call that it was delayed and should show up tomorrow.
-
Well, if y'all keep your eyes on Beach Camera, you may find an open box special there in the next week or two--mine's going back tomorrow, and I'm going to the sidelines to see what ships over the next few months.
It looks like a bunch of Haswell-based devices use the Intel 7260 dual band for wifi, so perhaps lingering driver issues will get sorted out as more devices hit the market. -

Hey!
I am strongly considering buying this laptop when it comes to Norway. I have some questions as I can be quite picky when it comes to heat and fan noise. So if anyone could go through the trouble of testing this I would appreciated it:
1 Photo of Speed Fan when browsing online + comment on the fan noise.
2 Photo of Speed Fan under heavy load + comment on the fan noise.
3 Photo of Speed Fan when watching 1080p stream + comment on the fan noise.
Again this would be very much appreciated since I already own an Asus UX32VD and I dont appreciate the fan noise and heat generation this laptop produces.
Links to help out if someone does not know how to do it:
Speed Fan Download Link: Download SpeedFan - Access temperature sensor in your computer
Link to a page with multiple 1080p streams: Twitch
Thank you very much if someone goes through the trouble of doing this.

My S7 arrived yesterday. I spent the day playing round with it. It is a beautiful machine. If you ask me any questions please reserve them to basics....I am just a low-tech computer user who likes the newest " gadgets".
The most difficult learning curve will be with windows 8. A couple times yesterday I even thought of sending it back getting mired in Window 8 dead ends and not knowing how to get out. ( I figured it out) .
So far Pros:
Lightening fast.
Multitude of options to maneuver around ( touch, keypad, mouse)
good wifi
beautiful design
after removing bloatware ( that I knew could go) 185GB of 223 available ( I have some picture files on there)
really quiet...no fan noise
Cons so far:
the screen image looks a little muted for my taste...kind of soft and not crisp ( any ideas ?)
the keys are noisy when typing ( I am a two finger typer)
the cam which I probably will never use the image is grainy and not good.
The only design flaw I am experiencing is the front and side edges are sharp and the way I hold my hands to type my wrists hit the edges and is uncomfortable.
Not including an adapter for Ethernet connection ( I understand they use to) is a cheap move for such an expensive machine.
follow-up; Wow...after a morning of typing the sharp edge of this computer( lower keyboard half) may be a deal breaker for me. My wrist drags along the front edge when I type and it HURTS. Why did they make it sharp and not round or soften that edge??? -
I think you should learn to touch type. About the laptop being not sharp, that must be your eyes, because 1080p on a laptop doesn't seem that sharp to me either.

my guess is that this higher resolution acer s7 will be released at the same time with the ativ book 9+ since I believe the only reason that they are delayed is that Microsoft has yet to release windows 8.1 which supposedly has better compatibility with higher resolution devices. as it is right now. the 1980x1020 hd is already small at 150% that is why I never bothered to wait for the higher resolution. and most likely that will eat some extra battery juice since it may require more battery power to run at those resolutions which is a no-go for me.

Mine shipping in a couple of days ago, and so far, the only real complaint I have is the keyboard. When the LED backlight kicks in, theres a faint high pitch hum that accompanies it and also sometimes, it seems like keystrokes dont register. I have to type with a bit more force than Im used to on my regular mechanical keyboard to ensure that all the keys register.
I did have connection drops with the wifi where the internet would randomly die out but so far, I think I fixed it (I hope at least). I went into the advanced power plans and switched it from being on power saver mode when not plugged in to max performance. Although I dont know the effects this will have on the battery life, I feel like its worth it for a stable connection.
There's also the matter of the HD screen. I currently have my screen settings from the default 150% to 100%, which makes everything quite small. Having it on the default causes most applications to be blurred and disabling dpi scaling makes it small anyways. While having everything on the screen be small isn't much of a problem vision-wise, it become quite tedious to incorporate the touch screen into what you're doing when the icons and most other things are too small to accurately hit. Ill figure out a solution eventually, and I think it just takes some time getting used to most of the issues I have. -
has anyone tried linux on this. let me know. i'm about to buy one
-
I can tell you right now, though, you're gonna have a bad time with the wifi. The drivers for the intel 7260 aren't in the kernel until I think 3.11-rc2 which is a ways ahead of what something like Debian or Ubuntu is using. Means you'll probably have to find a patch and recompile the kernel or get a USB wifi adapter to hold you over.
I'd also like to know whether the legacy bios is still accessible in the 392s still. -

Can someone test their read / write speeds on this? Im using the 256gb config and from what I can see, the write speeds is a lot slower compared to last gen, sequentially anyways.
-
-
Does Linux work on efi on the old s7? Or is legacy bios required like someone mentioned? -
Bah.. The question is, wait for this (in Norway) or go for ux31la (I think it'll come 15. Aug.)?? I like the looks on the s7 more though..
-
-
How is the keyboard to use with no funktion keys??
-
-
Also of note, the resolution is pretty high, so I find myself zooming in on webpages a lot, like I do on my phone/tablet... but the screen is really nice, so that's only a minor complaint (bound to get more frequent as I age, haha). -
-
Please keep us updated today! thanks for testing all this

Can anybody comment on how playable Dota 2 is on this machine? Low or medium settings at 1080p (no aa) if someone feels like testing it. That's the only game I would probably feel the urge to play while out and about.

fb: conflicting fb hw usage inteldrmfb vs EFI VGA - removing generic driver
After I did that, I installed Linux Mint on an external USB HDD (in BIOS legacy mode), but it doesn't want to boot from it... Probably the same inteldrmfb vs EFI error, but I can't seem to get to any grub menu now. : P -
also, is mint recognizing the RAID SSD in the s7? or is it seeing separate drives?
Thanks again -
I picked up the S7 because all the other Haswell ultrabooks were delayed and I needed a computer for school. So far it has been great. It looks sleek and the build quality is amazing. I have had a few minor issues that I'm hoping you guys can help me fix.
WiFi:
I have been having the same wifi connection issues that many of you have been having, periodically disconnecting from networks.
Trackpad:
Two-finger scrolling only works sporadically, and edge scrolling does not work at all. I have both of these settings enabled through the Synaptics menu.
Thanks in advance for your help! -

Very tempted to jump on the student discount as well. However, I know some people said they had issues with the trackpack and the wifi card. Have both of these been more or less resolved, or as some people still experiencing issues?
-

-
you could go in device manager and right click > disable it. that'd probably do it

Wow that's a great deal with the student discount...hoping it's still available by the end of the month when I'll have the money for it.
