I ordered mine about 10 hours ago, received no confirmation and I have no listed order history on their site. Should I just order again?
Edit: just got confirmation. Glad I waited.

And then once I received confirmation email, it also showed up in the order history on the website. -
Does anyone know what Microsoft will require in store to receive the student discount? I still have my student ID in decent shape, but graduated a few years ago so no way I can do a .edu verify. That discount looks too good to pass on.
-
I want to know too, I am looking up ways to get a .edu address somewhere online, I am not sure what the process is though.

All u need is an edu address. It sends an email with a link to it, and if you click the link you're good.
-
Just bought my i7 model for $1265. I'm soo excited!!
-
Will they actually make you go through that process in a Microsoft store though? I wanted to go pick this up today if not, but otherwise, I guess I could use my girlfriends .edu to order online. -
welp I was really digging my S7-392 but after four days it died this morning. Totally unresponsive. Tried resetting battery and holding down power button to no avail. I'm bummed! I was really happy with it. I don't know what else to try and will likely have to return it.

Can anyone comment on the fan noise? I've read a review that said it is extremely loud and they wouldn't even bring it to the classroom/meeting. Also this has a full HDMI output right?
-
Starting to wonder if I'll have to go for the UX31LA since it is avaliable 15. August. -
-
-
Just ordered one about an hour ago on the MS site, great deal! I think it's a price mistake, they're having a discussion over here:
Acer Aspire S7-392-9460 13.3" FHD Touch Haswell Ultrabook 8GB 256SSD $1169 FS @ Microsoft Store w/.edu E-mail - Slickdeals.net
But dang this order confirmation is slow! -
-
-
Yeah the 391 had fan noise issues, but they have allegedly been resolved with the 392
-
Does anyone have the i7 256 gb storage version and was able to test the battery life on it? It seems the i7 loses about 1 hour in battery.

Joining this boat
Anyone have info on the wireless display technology? How does it work? -
Cliff's Notes (I'll make a detailed blog post later, when I have it 100%):
1. Grub: add nomodeset to LiveUSB boot so we can actually use the display : P
2. Install Mint
3. Boot to LiveUSB again to modify grub.cfg on SSD for nomodeset and grub_timeout=-1 so we can see the grub menu
4. Remove LiveUSB and reboot, this time from SSD
5. Edit /etc/default/grub and add nomodeset and grub_timeout=-1, again.... last time, promise!
6. sudo update-grub
7. Download new intel 7260 wifi driver and put it in /lib/firmware
8. Find up-to-date graphics driver and install that (not finished with this bit yet).
So, it works! But it is hot as hell because it's doing software rendering and using a ton of CPU to do this. Gotta get that Intel GPU driver working.
Also, the damn keyboard backlight buzzes to no end. I turn it off. Here's what I could find on the internet about it:
Aspire S7-391 Keyboard backlight makes buzzing sou... - Acer Community
Acer Support - Answers, E-Mail, Chat - Aspire S7 keyboard noise when the backlight is on..
...which is REALLY UNHELPFUL. Thanks, Acer, for calling this annoying buzz "normal behavior". It gets drowned out by ambient white noise, but if your office/room/meeting is quiet, it is piercing. (Caveat, I am particularly tuned-in to audio/audible issues, having worked in the sound industry).
Other beefs with the device:
-- If it's on my lap and i rest my left hand on the left corner (as we all do, probably), the frame bends just enough so that the touchpad doesn't click well. Not an issue if you have tap-to-click turned on.
-- Again, the keys do not always respond perfectly. Especially the arrow keys--you have to hit them square on.
-- It's surprisingly difficult to open the laptop. This one is weird. My hands aren't that big. I may just need to find a better technique... maybe a plastic wedge (or not). ; )
Great things:
-- Screen! Really nice.
-- Is super-quiet when the keyboard backlight isn't blaring at me.
-- Having un-RAIDed the SSDs, I now have two 128GB SSDs to use.. which is kind of rad. One OS per SSD? Totally.
-- Looks. I was turned off by the white in the photos, and not super excited about it. But in person it's pretty slick.
-- With that discount, it's the cheapest, highest spec ultrabook, like, ever... probably. -
Thanks so much for this. I can't wait to try Linux. I might try 13.10a2 straight off the bat because of 3.10 kernel haswell support. Maybe even 4400 drivers? I'll have to research. This is unless you heavily recommend against at least trying 13.10 (any insurmountable problems, etc?)
3 questions. When bios is in legacy, is there a perceivable boot time lag? Extra splash screen, etc?
When not using efi, does it still resume quickly from sleep in Linux? Is the wake time as good as this video that someone posted? Video - TinyPic - Free Image Hosting, Photo Sharing & Video Hosting
Also, what was your exact process for de-raiding the ssd? Was there a bios option, or did you just reformat each drive independently, which would break the raid?
DAT discount. -
We can now preorder it in Norway, insanely priced though

Looks like it was a pricing error and they changed the student price back to $1484. I just hope they honor the old price since mine I ordered mine over the weekend and it's supposed to ship today with the old price.
-
If you got a confirmation then likely too late for them to cancel. I ordered yesterday AM and got a conf in the evening, current status shows it's in the box for shipment already.
-
Even 3.11 doesn't seem to have the HD 4400 support totally baked in. I have to do more reasearch.
As far as boot and wakeup time, I really don't care about those things (how often do you really open and close your computer? Every 3 seconds? Then who cares.) but really, every system boots so fast these days it's a moot point. 4.3 seconds, 9.9 seconds, whatever. I'll enjoy the extra few seconds of life where I can muse on the nature of reality before I habitually begin to tap and click again. ; )
As for de-RAIDing it, there's another pre-OS "boot" menu that pops up when you're in legacy mode, just spam at Ctrl+i at boot and you'll get it. -
Would anybody happen to have any information about the 392's sRGB gamut?

Just ordered during the sale as well.
Starting to read up on the dual core i7-4500u, and apparently it doesn't stack as well to the last gen quad core cpu's. How does the S7 handle during everyday heavy computing use (Say 7 tab open, word, excel, ppt open, and streaming a 1080p video)? Or alternatively doing some cpu intensive task like video processing or light gaming?
Any real world experience? My use wont necessarily involve gaming but I do heavily multi-task and may play with some video editing.
Thanks -
-
Let me rephrase, i haven't kept up with changing tech and specs so I'm a bit out of date. In real everyday terms, is the i7-4500u processor much slower for heavy-multitasking users vs something like i7-3635QM (processor in samsung ativ book 8)? From a benchmarking perspective, the PC Mark scores are half, but what does this mean in everyday use? I switched to the S7 because I figured I would be gaining in the portability form factor while ditching a dedicated graphics card which I dont need. But I wondering how much a performance hit the ULV's take in real terms vs some other 'ultrabooks'.

So I had been looking to buy the i7 Haswell S7 for a while, but the cost was keeping me back a bit. I looked on Amazon and there was one used model that the seller offered for $1250, new condition. Things did not work out, but as I was looking back to order a new one, I saw that deal on the Microsoft store yesterday. I am a high school student, but we get our emails through a university, so I was able to get that insane discount (even less than the i5 model after its student discount!!). Really made my week
It should get here tomorrow, super excited!
Edit: Joined this forum just to share my thoughts about it when I get it, and to get feed back from you guys too! -
-
I got the deal last night as well for $1169 but when I checked my order confirmation this morning it said that they were giving me the s7-391. I contacted Microsoft Store's customer service and they were able to sort it all out for me and give me the S7-392 i7 for the price of $1169. Did your confirmation say that they were shipping you the s7-392 or did you have a similar problem?
-
Does anyone know if the Haswell Acer s7 392 is compatible with the ad-on extended battery that worked with the previous Acer s7 391's?
-
Is the deal from the Microsoft store still worth it? I wasn't lucky enough to get my order in on time. Right now it is listed at $1484 with the discount down from the original $1699.
-
I got mine from Amazon for about $1550. The difference, if I remember, between Amazon and the Microsoft store was that Amazon's machines offer 2 years on the warranty....MS one. To me, it is worth the extra $70 for another year on the warranty.
-
-
-
Do you know if the Haswell Acer s7 392 will have its own ad-on battery? Or will they not make it possible for this model?
Thanks -
-
Mine isn't live either, ordered Sunday ~10AM.
Hopefully they aren't halting the shipments or pulling something on us. -
