    Hi guys!

I new to this forum and I own an Acer Aspire Timeline 3810tz. My laptop did not come with an optical drive and now I'm wondering how I might go about downgrading it from Vista to Windows XP? I have already purchased a USB Cd-Rom drive and skimmed through some nLite articles, but I'm still getting the blue screen 0x0000007B error. I'm guessing it has to do something with the SATA/AHCI driver but I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

*During my XP install I changed the SATA Mode from AHCI to IDE
*I think I might be using the wrong driver, but I'm not entirely sure.

I would really appreciate any advice or help.

This thread is a dead end , of some one who did not liked to pay, just to get an new internal hard drive , and tried to use an external as OS boot device .

My eyes have seen allot , but this one called madness .

About the current issue , there is probably a driver missing .
XP basic installation does not have it .
    Thats why it hangs .

If you know what IDE -SATA controller you own , you could find the driver .

In order to fix it , you need an USB floppy , and a disk .
Because the DVD drive holds the XP disk .

There is a way to copy the XP CD on a second partition , and free up the DVD drive , so to use it for supplying the missing driver , but you must be knowledgeable to do it .

    Are you ?

    EDIT :

There lots of Dos diagnostics , that can tell you the hardware configuration .
Trying drivers in luck , its not how things work .

I dont just try random drivers. I load my 3810tz and go to the device manager and see that it is using an ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI controller. I download the driver and use nLite to integrate it with my authentic version of windows xp, but it still doesnt work.

Download the XP SATA drivers from the ACER website.... Extract the contents and save it on a USB stick... Run XP install off the CD, during the XP install, there is a part wherein you can specify a 3rd party SATA/RAID driver... I cannot recall specifically where/whwn right now, but I know it's there. When you see the option, just click the appropriate key, and browse through your USB stick for the driver. See if that helps. Cheers.

Well when you press F6 during the windows xp install it allows you to install scsi/sata drivers but only via floppy. I integrated the drivers with nLite so I don't have to F6, but it still doesn't work.

Skip nlite and look into www.Driverpacks.net

Intergrate their mass stroage using TEXT MODE. See if those find it, if you DON'T then you know you'll need to do a manual F6 install of the driver.... as others have mentioned, we need to know what the sata chipset / mass storage driver is to get this to work.

    You'll need the following downloads

    Mass Storage - http://driverpacks.net/driverpacks/windows/xp/x86/mass-storage/9.01
Application to Integrate them - http://driverpacks.net/applications/driverpacks-base/8.12.5
    Re-create the .iso - http://download.ryanvm.net/files/RVM_Integrator_1.6.7z
Burn the .iso to a CD / DVD - (use Imgburn)

Simple steps, if you need help look @ the FAQ's located on driverpacks.net site.

The driver exists, I know it does.... just need to find it.

Look into save hwid's as well, they might find something for you.

Check my signature for the HWID tool (needs to be run under Windows). Copy the .txt output into a post and I'll have a look see as to what I can do regarding locating the right set of drivers, or if the mass storage will support it.

    Forbidden

You don't have permission to access /files/RVM_Integrator_1.6.7z on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

ok so it looks like msfn doesn't allow 3rd party linking

    http://www.ryanvm.net/msfn/

download the integrator (3rd link on the top)

I can only help you as much as you help yourself. ;) Come on now seriously :p

Please do not attempt to downgrade.
Microsoft has actually abandon Xp while only maintaining Security Updates.
A tweaked Vista install will be far better than a Xp install in terms of experience and features.
Just do a fresh Vista install if the situation requires.
