can't play x264/720p/mkv smoothly with su2700.... i didn't not reinstall the OS, which is vista 32bit... just cleaned it up at bit from those trialwares...
I installed cccp and coreavc... and still can't get 720p going smoothly.
if an ATOM can get 720P work.... why can't the SU2700... can someone tell me what am i missing here? should i clean install vista? 32bit? 64bit? try windows 7? any ideas?

    thanks.

    thanks,
but that's what i have.... coreavc + mpc, which is not working.
in fact, that's the setup i always use.
I have a desktop with athlonxp 2500+/nvidia ti4200 which works just fine on x264/720p....

it's hard to believe that the su2700/4500HD is slower than my other P-M 1.5GHz/GMA855......
Seems like the 4500HD is not doing much.....

I have the 3810TZ with SU2700 and X4500HD with Windows 7 64-bit. I can see the radeon card using a bit more juice but not that much more. Don't the radeon based Timelines come with hybrid graphics? (switchable dedicated/integrated)

    @gus6464:
I just installed Win7 RC 64bit and I was wondering if you installed Acer's updated graphics drivers (version 7.15.10.1752) over the default Vista driver (version 8.15.10.1749). I haven't noticed the 100% CPU problem yet so I'm cautious to overwrite the new driver. Thanks.

I have the driver from windows update installed. The only driver I downloaded from the acer website was the synaptics driver for the touchpad. I didn't have the 100% cpu problem but I haven't encountered any problems with the windows update supplied driver. Just make sure you install the epower management software in order to maximize battery life under 7.

Cool. Regarding the ePower software--is there any GUI or configuration for that? Or is it just the green leaf on/off toggle?

    Thanks again =)

The software has no GUI itself. It just adds tweaks to windows mobility center profiles. When you have leafy battery turned on and profile is set to better battery the system goes into frugal mode and the video card also goes into power save mode. You will notice the taskbar color get lighter and some effects will turn off but aero peek will still work this is what matters to me anyway. The system can still play 720p h.264 no problem with the media player classic home cinema gpu tweaks but 1080p stutters. If I turn off leafy mode I have been able to play 1080p fine though.

mmh i don't understand how there can be such a gap in battery life...

it seems that i have exactly the same configuration like other users, which get around 9 hours.

    here my system again:
    su9400
    hd4330
switchable graphics deactivated (doesn't work in windows 7)
ati catalyst driver from ati homepage
    acer epower managment
    mostly in balanced mode
cpu throttling works (tested with rmclock)

-> but i just get around 4:30 hours of battery life with very light use: wlan, icq, surfing with some breaks between, no cpu intensive apps

    could my notebook/battery be defective?

i don't know what to do anymore :(

    Hello all.
    The question is:
I tend to buy 3810T with S3500 processor and without ATI graphics card.
    1. Will MKV 1080p play smoothly without glitches?
    2. Will HD content play in browser?
    3. I want to use external Blue-Ray drive connected via USB to this notebook. Will blue-ray disks play on this hardware?

Well under balanced setting in 7 I get about 5 hours on a full charge give or take but on power saver (Screen lowest brightness, no Aero, etc.) it'll give me an estimated 9 but I haven't used the computer for that long so I can't vouch for if that is correct.

    1. It will with MPC-HC gpu tweaks and performance power profile.
    2. Flash HD no, silverlight yes (new silverlight uses gpu acceleration).
    3. If MPC-HC can play BDs then yes, any other software I am not sure.

If you must have the BD and uncompromised HD performance I would look at the HP DV2 but battery life is no where near close to the Timelines and it's more expensive.

Doing what I'm about to tell you is a big hassle, but I think it's a must!
you should establish a base line for your battery life with both intel and ATI cards, and this should be done "with your factory install of vista"
This should tell you if its a driver issue with windows 7 or not !!

A quick note for anyone planning on using Windows 7 with their Timeline:

Do NOT install the Intel AHCI driver as posted on the Acer site.

For some reason, this increased my OS loadup time (while the Windows logo is "breathing") to around 3 minutes. My guess is that it was running a chkdsk, because when I uninstalled the driver it ran a chkdsk (took around 3 minutes) then restarted with a 15 second loadup.

I found that with Windows 7 the only driver to install from the acer website is the synaptics touchpad driver and epower management software. Windows update will install the drivers for everything else.

Anyone have any suggestions for programs or ways to know when CAPS or NUM or SCROLL lock are on? It's kind of annoying that there's no lights or other ways to know.

    Thanks.

The hotkey app from acer tells you when caps lock and such is on on the bottom right of the screen.

    @gus

You are referring to the Acer LaunchManager? I'm running that one in Win7 x64. I see the on-screen display for when I change the volume or turn off the wireless, but nothing for caps lock. =(

Also I had two 100% CPU use bugs while running Win7 x64 earlier today. I (reluctantly) installed the Vistax64 driver from Acer but so far I haven't had any issues.

I've got a 4810t with su2700. I can play the 1080p quantum of solace clip on zoom player except the audio is out of synch. I have yet to play a 1080p on mpc-hc successfully. The dozens of choices within mpc-hc seem to indicate it may be the most flexible player, however...

Can someone give us neophytes an example of the mpc-hc set up that will play blue rays, and give us a typical blue ray video clip to practice on. For now all I want to try to do is play the most popular blue ray with audio in synch. Later I might try to figure out where dxva and other super duper codecs fit in.

OK if Cyberlink's PowerDVD codec is the way to go to view blue ray 1080p, does anyone have a blue ray video clip we can try it on?

So I received my 3810TG yesterday and I can say that I am pretty much impressed. The specs are:
    CPU: SU3500
    VGA: ATI 4330
    RAM: 4Gb
    HDD: 500Gb

It is nothing like my last notebook - Toshiba L300. The biggest problems I could find so far are the display and the cpu. The display has terrible viewing angles and washed out colors. The cpu is enough for everyday use, but it is definitely not enough for something more and it is terrible at multitasking. My advice - if you are looking to buy this model, grab the dual core SU9400 instead. Everything else is super duper OK. :)

Here are some pics (sorry for the quality, but it is my crappy camera fault):
    [IMG] [IMG]
    [IMG] [IMG]

Here is the window from which you can choose, which GPU to use. With one click you can change from intel integrated graphics to ATI 4330. The whole procedure takes 6-7 seconds.

Hello Anka. That video clip with the talented girl looked interesting (ha ha), do you have a link to it? I set up my mpc-hc the same as yours with Cyberlink H264/AVC. I tried playing another 1080p video clip but it didn't work. I'm looking for a 1080p clip that I know should work. You showed exact settings for your video. If that video doesn't work for me perhaps my mpc lacks some component that I thought I installled. I've got a 4810t with su2700.

If anyone is comfortable taking their laptops apart (as I am), theres PLENTY of 13.3" matte screens on eBay for about $80-100US. Its not very tough to swap them out, and the data plugs are standard at this point.

Is anyone having trouble running hulu full screen? I was surprised that "prison break" was a little jerky with audio out of synch. It was surprising because I have routinely played 720p and can play 1080p with the right player.

Has anyone got Windows 7RC-64bit to install on an 3810T? I keep getting the BSOD after it formats the drives and is copying the installation files.

I've updated the BIOS, changed to IDE in the BIOS, reburned the DVD at low speed, partitioned 1st in Linux.

    Any help would be appreciated.

UPDATE: I think I got it working now. I did two things in the BIOS: 1) changed the drive type back to the original setting (i.e. not IDE) and 2) enabled the F12 Boot menu. Then when I pressed F12, instead of choosing the USB drive, I chose the ATAPI(sp?) drive. I don't know why it thinks there are two drives connected, but I have gotten past the BSOD.

From what you said we can deduce that Windows 7 no longer includes IDE Drivers but switch to all AHCI drivers.

Has anyone found a version with built-in 3G? The acer website suggests there are versions with it but I can't find any.

Also, if I buy a 3810T, how do I install Windows 7 without a dvd drive? Will it install from a USB stick? Thanks
