Maybe it's a matter of time. All other countries seem to have SU9400.

Does anyone know a retailer in Toronto (Canada) or a nearby one in the U.S. (Preferably Buffalo) that sells the SU9400 model? Or an online one in Canada?

The other problem is that the price difference between SU3500 and SU9400 is more than 100 euros, more like 150 euros (the price is about 700-800euros, possibly even more). But as chilko said it is impossible to find the model with dual core processor. I was ready to buy the model with SU9400, but I don't wanna wait anymore.

They have the SU9400 model at JR.com. The only problem is that they are temporarily out of stock. :( There is hope though...They have had the SU9400 model in stock at least 2-3 times so far, so it's only a matter of time before they are in stock again. Edit: I just checked right now and they now have some in stock. When I first posted this (Just and hour ago) it wasn't in stock and now it is. lol

    In the Netherlands it's 130 euro difference for SU9400 + 1GB extra + 70GB HDD.

I can't say about 3810, because it's not available yet, but the price difference for 5810 is 200 euro and you don't get anything more beside the CPU. For our standards of living 200 euro are way too much for a different processor.

    i just bought the AS3810T with the SU9400 core 2 duo - from microcenter.com
did in store pickup - received the "in the bag" email in 10 minutes and i drove 30 minutes to pick it up and everything went smoothly.

I absolutely love this laptop .... no 100% cpu problems but im gonna upgrade my vga drivers anyway. It runs cool and the keyboard is so nice to type on. The mouse buttons are not amazing but im fine with it.

if anyone has any questions feel free to ask - heres the link where i bought it.
    http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0314010

im wondering if anybody knows any techniques to get the big sticker that has all the specs off of the laptop....thanks

Somebody posted these way back in the thread, these are Canadian retailers at least:

    3810T w/ SU9400:
    http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=39705
    http://www.a-power.com/product-11844-258-2
    http://www.agileelectronics.ca/prod_details/tab/details.asp?prod_id=LX.PCR06.002

    4810T w/ SU9400 (not yet in stock):
    http://www.ncix.com/products/?sku=39704
    http://www.agileelectronics.ca/prod_details/tab/details.asp?prod_id=LX.PBA06.005

The 3810T's especially seem to be widely available, so I'm sure you can find some local retailers in the Toronto area too.

I don't like the mouse buttons at all but since I am used to my macbook all I did was install the twofingerscroll app and turned on 2 finger right click as well as 2 finger scroll. Now I don't use the mouse buttons at all.

Yeah I disabled the all of the synaptics functions and just have 2 finger scroll app do all the work. Scrolling is very smooth and the right click works like a charm.

Does anyone know where the plug for the bluetooth module cable is? I have a Core 2 Solo 3810T and would like to add bluetooth. I've popped the keyboard off, and both panels on the bottom. I only spy a spare mini PCI-E slot. Any hints as to where the port for the BT is would be well appreciated. Thanks!

2 Finger Scroll is already inside Synaptic.
I prefer using Tap Zone as right click.

i received my 3810 with the su9400 today (ordered from j&r). just unboxed it and about to put it through its paces.

here's what came in the box:
    - notebook
    - battery
    - power cord
    - ac adaptor
    - "getting started" card
    - international traveler warranty booklet
    - warranty paperwork

one thing i noticed right off the bat - there's no physical media in the box at all. i've never bought a computer that came with nothing before. is everyone else in the same boat? i've seen that i can access the recovery partition via alt-f10 from the post screen. anyone know where i can get one (it's not available on acer's website yet) or if i can create my own recovery dvd?

i'd also like to do a clean install of vista but seeing as i don't have any media...

gtbuzz what you can do is if you have a flash drive (Probably need at least 4 GB but I don't know how big a Vista .iso or whatever would be) you can format it and put Vista or Windows 7 on it and then boot from that to install. Just Google how to boot and install Windows from a flash drive and you should find multiple guides on how to do it. Oh and go Jackets!

How do I get two finger scroll? The rotation seems to work but I think two finger would be more convenient. If I could do it with the normal synaptics software that'd be great but I could always use a separate program.

One more thing, could someone upload/post the Timeline wallpaper? When I installed 7 I lost it and would like it back.

Actually I've got something else. On YouTube someone posted two videos and I don't know how trustworthy they can be but the webcam really does look like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J9ybpUR9AEU and even though most of us have said the SU94 can handle HD there's this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=be5OzKneAOw&feature=fvw

The 2 finger scrolling that is inside Synaptic doesn't work exactly like one would think. You have to make a swirl motion for it to scroll unlike a mac where you just put 2 fingers on the touchpad and move it horizontally or vertically. You need the 2 finger scroll app for it to work just like a mac.

Yes, that's what my 3810T came with. I've only ever purchased desktops before, but I've never had to use the physical media they came with. I think Acer didn't put any physical media there because usually there's some disc, but seeing as how there's no optical drive in the Acer, they probably just skipped it.

nowadays, manufacturer don't give disc anymore, they just give recovery on hdd partition and ask user to burn their own recovery disc. On start just type acer erecovery

thanks to everyone that replied about the recovery media. for those of you that are doing a clean windows 7 install, how do you do it? if you reformat the drive, will it destroy the recovery partition?

also, some unrelated performance related tidbits:

my previous notebook was an hp dv3510nr (13.3", core 2 duo 7350, 2ghz, 4gb, vista 64, nvidia 9300)*. here's a comparison of WEI scores (HP with nvidia graphics # is on the left, acer su9400 w/ intel 4500 is on the right):

    overall: 3.6 / 3.2
    processor: 4.9 / 4.6
    ram: 5.9 / 5.0
    aero graphics: 3.6 / 3.2
    gaming graphics: 4.8 / 3.3
    hdd: 5.4 / 5.6

i'm not surprised that it scored lower, but i'm actually pleasantly surprised it's not *that* much lower. not really sure what it is, but the whole "feel" on the acer is faster than the hp was.

also, if anyone is familiar with the directv2pc software (essentially allows you to stream content from a directv hd-dvr to your pc, including in HD), i downloaded and installed that last night. needless to say, i'm very pleased with the performance, even when streaming hd content. i haven't noticed any skips yet and it actually seems to perform better than the hp did. on both computers i streamed via wireless-n, so i imagine that's probably a function of the wireless card on the acer being better than on the hp. cpu usage was around 20-25%. to my knowledge, the dtv2pc app just streams what's recorded on the hard drive; it doesn't resample for slower computers or anything, so the performance i'm seeing seems fairly impressive (at least enough to keep me content).

    * if anyone is wondering why i decided to get the acer, it's because the HP was "just alright", however i was never really happy with it. not really any better way to describe it than it just didn't seem to work right; quite a few small problems. the hdd died recently so i figured it was good enough incentive for me to get it repaired and stick it on ebay =). actually my biggest gripe is the battery life. under normal useage i'd get around 2.5-3 hours.

Its a really slow charge actually. I think my first charge took over 2 hours to go from about 30% to 100%. Granted, that 2 hours of charging was while using the laptop, and also lasted me 8 hours 53 minutes of general usage. Its all relative I believe. 1 hour of charging would buy you 5 hours of use.

On another note, I found the bluetooth port and theres a small piece of 3M double sided tape and a caddy for the actual card. Its in the front of the motherboard, about an inch south of the Ctrl key on the right side of the keyboard, if anyone is interested. Here is the proper card and cable to get:

Come August 1st I might be joining this lounge. I will be in NYC with my parents and brother and we might go to JR to buy the 3810T w/ SU9400 version. This computer will have to last 4 years of college. I wonder how this will play the upcoming game, Cities XL. Right now that and Sim City 4 are the only games I will play on it. Will be a big step up from my old Pentium 4 Inspiron and current EEE.

When I installed 7 it got rid of the recovery partition. At least, it doesn't show up but the HD is listed at 451 GB which seems like a lot missing for a formatted HD but it might just be me never having a drive this big.

Hi folks! Just joined the forum to post in this thread--this is a trove of useful information.

I just got my 3810T in the mail from Newegg today: 13.3" SU3500 with 4GB RAM, Intel graphics, 320GB HDD. So far everything is great! I flashed BIOS 1.08, uninstalled a bunch of bloatware, started configuring my settings and migrating files from my desktop.

The one question I have concerns the Acer ePower management software. Is there a GUI or configuration for the ePower utility? I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the package from the Acer website to no avail, though I see the program files in the "Program Files/Acer/Acer PowerSmart Manager" folder.

    Any ideas? Thanks.

I think you can take prices of Netbook as a guage.
I don't think they will drop prices so much to cannibalize the netbook market

i still have a problem with the low battery runtime under windows 7. it is a little bit better now, now windows shows me around 4 hours, but in near-idle with very low cpu usage (just wlan, icq and a bit browsing).

linux live cd don't work either (i tested fedora and knoppix)

i have installed acer epower managment, the taskmanager shows it as started, but i can't start it to adjust the settings

    thanks in advance!

You could try RMClock for downclocking and undervolting the CPU. It can make a lot of difference.

hi, i received my 4810TG with the ATi 4330...
swapped out the standard 320gb for a supertalent sx 128gb SSD, problem with that was that its just a nuance wider than the 320gb was, so it didnt fit into the hdd caddy. anyone else who has done an ssd upgrade have this problem?
i just put the ssd in without the caddy, seems to be fine.

installed the windows 7 rc, all the drivers installed automatically. only problem left is switchable graphics.

has anyone managed to get switchable graphics working in win7?

Speaking of which, I can't wait for the 11.6" Timeline. :)

Which model do you have? I have been running Win 7 for over a week now and the battery life is outstanding. In power save mode I get 9 hours with wifi on and screen at lowest brightness.
