Is the consensus then that the duo core chips will be available on other models (4810 and 5810) later this year?
-
Also when the discrete graphics option coming?
-
Does anyone know of a cheap site in Canada selling the 3810. The cheapest I can find is $649 on cendirect.

Hi
I am new to this forum. I can see, that several people are having problems with the fan running alle the time on the 3810t, when plugged to the power-outlet. Are people with the 4810t not having the same problem? I just bought my 3810t, and find the fan annoying. None of the ideas given in this thread, solves the issue. So, if the 4810t is less noisy, I will swap it to that one, because the shop gave me the ability.
Please inform me -
Also, you could try and use a fan management application (I use SpeedFan on my desktop) and that could help with the noise.
Hope that helps. -
It's not that it's loud at all, just that it runs alle the time, when plugged. Is that really needed? Does the 4810t do that too?
Speedfan des not recognise the fan of the 3810... -

This can be used to run Full HD movies without lag on GM4500
Works for me -
So much work....if you just run Win 7 (the newest version, 7600), WMP 12 has support for HD formats and does just fine with the CPU consumption. Playing 1080p movies I hover around 50-60% CPU.

If it can't compete on Price it can't compete at all.
Acer Netbooks wrestler market share based on pricing.

Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
- Looks good
- Comes with a mouse and bag (as all Asus laptops do)
- Bluetooth is 2.1
- 2 year warranty
The bad:
- Vista is 64-bit
- $100 more than a 3810 with SU3500
- Weighs more
- Max of 4GB ram
-
Any info on when those Acer's become available in the US?
-
Darn, that is a really nice laptop. However, I believe that for $550, I got a deal. I really like my Timeline and it fits my needs (small, light, nice screen, and battery life galore!). Plus, after my $1k dell was stolen, I can't bring myself to spend much on a laptop anymore.
In a year, these ULV laptops will become increasingly popular and more widely available and I'm sure we will see many more models like the Timeline and the Asus. But for now, I'm sticking with my decision... -
FYI the ASUS is available for sale on Newegg (not marked pre-order or out of stock), for $657 after Bing CB.
See Jayess's thread in the ASUS section. -
in the end... i got the 3810t-6775... the great 800 usd c2d ssd deal
so i cant complain that much -
hello...anybody can help??
-
My only thing is how is the battery life. Asus does not seem to have any indication on how long it will last on their web page.
The Acer last a whole day easily.
Also why only 10/100 never understood that, it cost what a penny to add the 10/100/1000 card. -
ASUS's web-page claims 12 hours. Amazon's product listing claims 9 hours running Vista.

im having an issue with my 4810t (SU3500) the battery stops charging sometimes at like 96-98% and it says "plugged in, not charging." momentarily unplugging the charger and putting it back in does not solve the issue. what does usually solve it (or has so far for the 2 times total it has happened in the week that ive owned my timeline) is unplugging the charger and unplugging the adapter from the wall for a few minutes (usually this also means the battery discharges to a few percent lower than it was at) after this, plugging everything back in seems to return it to normal, and it charges all the way to 100%. i have read of many people having this issue with many different brands of laptops, all on vista (i am running windows 7 RC) and the solution i described was one many of the people suggested. other suggestions included unplugging the battery as well and waiting with that for a few minutes too. Has anyone else had this issue with their timeline?
Other issue i want to put out there: I downloaded a 1080p copy of Quantum Of Solace (great film) and wanted to play it on my 1080p TV via HDMI. it was a .mkv file, so first i downloaded the standard for playing non-supported file formats, the VLC media player. The VLC would play it, but it was extremely choppy and eventually the image just froze as the audio continued, so that option was out. Next i downloaded a player that i read about here, called 'Splash Player' this seemed to work well, it played the movie with CPU usage hovering around 50% and physical memory usage well below 50%. however, the .mkv file i downloaded had DTS audio, and in its free, beta stage, Splash Player does not support DTS audio so that was out. Finally, i downloaded a codec pack (The Matroska codecs) to make windows media player/media center be able to play .mkv files, along with an audio codec to make it handle DTS audio, and i was on my way. I watched the thrilling first few minutes of Quantum of Solace up to the opening credits sequence on my 1080p TV (in the first few minutes a LOT is happening, so i figured it would be a good test of whether the computer could handle it) CPU usage with windows media player was hovering around 50% and things seemed perfect, the opening minutes were nearly flawless. Later that night, i had family and friends gathered to watch the movie in HD, and within about 15 minutes, strange things began happening. heavy pixelation occurred and sometimes the movie would be tinted in colors like green red or yellow. I tried everything i could think of, from changing the priority of the task in task manager to changing the codec settings. nothing worked. eventually after several different tactics, i played the file, it worked for another 15-20 minutes, the same issues started happening, then the application shut down. and the screen went black then came back on. the taskbar informed me that the graphics/display driver had encountered an error, and had to shut down, but was able to recover. i tried once more to play it, and 15 minutes later, i saw the same error, then got the blue screen of death. It ran so well for 15 or 20 minutes. nearly flawless HD with very occasional slight pixelation that was hardly even noticeable. CPU usage was not 100% or anywhere near, and i just dont know what happened and why. i was convinced it was a codec issue, so i downloaded some new, different codecs to perform the same task, and got the same problems. now i really have no idea what the problem is. Other than that issue, watching things on my TV is great, i watched a full streaming episode of entourage on full screen today without a hiccup. Again, CPU usage is low, and the codecs seem okay, and it looks so great for 15-20 minutes before it goes crazy. anyone experienced anything similar, or know what is happening? i could live with not being able to play 1080p movies, it took a week to download the whole thing anyway, and this is the first time ive done it on any computer ive owned... -
-
BTW the movie is great, which I hope you own a copy of, as talking about pirated things here is against the rules
Your battery issue is not really an issue most modern notebooks do that, its a way of saving the battery... proof is unplug and run it to you are some where around 89%, plug in it charges, now unplug and run to only 97%, no charging , take it down again to 89% and way you go, you should try other values as I am not sure exactly which value is set up on your machine, so you should try by upping it to 92% or 95% and look see if it charges -

just got my 3810tz today...got windows7 RC on it without any issues and have a couple questions so far....
the little lights on the top right of the keyboard (including the one for wireless)....do i need to install some drivers or some app to get those to work right or is what they're doing what they're supposed to do? I only ask because the wireless light (I am using wireless) is amber and blinking pretty irradically...like an activity light on a NIC...not sure if its supposed to do this or what. On my HP from work the light is amber when wifi is disabled and you press it to enable wifi and it changes to blue.....maybe this is just different
also i noticed this touchpad is supposed to have some special features for easy scrolling up and down pages and such...like a "multitouch" function. So I went on the acer website and downloaded and installed the drivers...they are called like Alps or something. With the drivers installed the touchpad seemed to function weird...i think there was some feature enabled where it would slow down and "stick" to buttons as you passed over them....i found this really annoying and even when you were not passing over a button the speed/smoothness did not seem very consistent. I uninstalled the alps driver and the touchpad seems more usable now....Any thoughts on this?
more questions to follow im sure...especially since this is my first experience with windows7 (or vista for that matter) -
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
1. You need to install ePower management for the buttons to work.
2. Are you sure you have an Alps touchpad, maybe its Synaptics? -
I installed the epower app, is blinking amber what the wifi light is supposed to be?
I dont know what kind of touchpad I have, I didnt see a synaptics driver on the acer site once i had selected my notebook model, i'll check again though. -
I have been having lock-ups on my timeline 4810t. It will run fine for an hour or so and then just lockup. I have to hard restart to get it to come back. Any thing I can try?

I click the "practice" button and that maze window comes up. I try to get it to scroll up and down by moving my finger up and down along the right edge of the touchpad....the cursor changes to the "vertical scroll" cursor like it should, but I cant get it to scroll at all for some reason. Then I go into firefox and the icon doesnt even change to the vertical scroll icon when I do the same motion....hmmmm -
Hey guys,
Just wanted to post a quick one, ive been lurking on this thread for awhile and i finally pulled the trigger and got a 4810t w/ su3500 and a 320gb drive. Just want to thank all of you for your awesome input. I really like the computer and i am happy with it.
I just thought i would say that i watched a netflix movie last night while hooked up through HDMI to my 42 inch 1080P Lcd TV, we watched Step Brother and it was absolutely flawless. Quality was great, although it changed once in a while, but i think Netflix does that depending upon your internet connection i beleive. But the Timeline ran great.
Checked the temp at the end of the movie, everything was very normal. I think it couldve been cooler if it wasnt on top of my Dish DVR that runs real warm (HDMI cord wasnt long enough to put anywhere else) Stutter was virtually non existent. You would have to look very hard to pick up. It was ran thought firefox.
All in all im very happy with the Timeline. Im also a mac guy with a macbook air, so im all about pushing super light, super thin laptops to the max. I use Live Sync to keep them looking exactly the same. Also i was wondering if there is a thread for the timeline that had everyones software mods/driver update list that could kind of be an all in one place for bettering the timeline? Right now its kinda in a massive 100 plus page thread.
Once again thanks for all the tips, you guys are good -
Hello fellow Timeline-owners,
I am a very happy owner of a 2 week old 3810TG with the SU9400 CPU and HD4330 GPU. It's also running the RTM version of Win 7.
The performance of this thing is really great , I use audiosoftware like Reaper, Audacity and Amplitube on it with no sweat. And I also play alot of Trackmania Nations Forever on it.
Now while being plugged in the game runs really great at 35 fps steady with a few settings on high and native resolution. But when running on battery power, this drops to 21.5fps, which is not playable.
here are some screenshots so you can see what I mean :
the game settings
benchmark results while being plugged in
benchmark results while using battery, with the green eco light off and Win7 battery performance set to "High Performance"
I guess there's still a powersaving setting activated that really cuts into the performance , but I can't seem to find it . I always turn of the acer eco mode off and use High Performance battery setting. And since Win7 doesn't support hybrid graphics, the HD4330 is always used.
I hope this makes sence and that someone can help me to solve this riddle.
Thanks guys. -
I just ordered an OCZ Agility 120 GB HD that I'm gonna put in my Timeline. Hopefully it makes it even better.

The problem burning with the erecovery console is fixed by upgrading the software here:

Dear Timeline 3810 Owners,
Acer is offering 3810 with a single core (SU3500) and double core (SU9400) processor. Though am sure 9400 is the better one, I would really like to know the performance difference between both systems.
Could you please post your system rating with 3DMarks/Passmark .
Passmark software ( http://www.passmark.com/index.html) has a performance test software, it has a 30 day free evaluation copy.
Kindly mention your system configuration too.
Your reply would help me to make a better choice.
Thanks in advance

Thanks a lot Jayayess
Could someone with a SU3500 on the 3810 laptop post their results for Passmark test please?
That could help us to have a good comparison.
The Passmark link is http://www.passmark.com/index.html
Thanks in advance

My 3DMark06 score:
This is 3810TG with SU3500 and ATI 4330.
P.S. Also this is the Vista experience index:

just got my 3810tg with ati graphics umts and so...
but running on external power the fan is going nuts or kind of... on battery it is quiet. aso rightmark (ok it's an old utility is there anything new?) can't show any cpu throttle although it should have speedstep...
is there a way to deactivate the ati graphics especially when using an external monitor on hdmi? -
acer says to use ddr3-1066 memory. well it is installed, but runs as ddr3-800...
-
The reason they use DDR3 is probably of the power savings. -
well, you only have CPU with 800 MHz FSB
-
the chipset supports ddr3-1066 (or do you mean they use 800 for power reasons?)
are your processors also stuck at 1,4gHz?
sisoft sandra reads out possible multipliers of 2x - 7x (fsb is 4x200mHz)
that fan is kind of annoying... -
well and the ati seems to be draining so much power that battery life goes down to 5 hours when using an external monitor and no display. being used to a ccfl display in notebooks i expectet it to rise.

I've got the next problem:
before buying, i asked the acer support if the timeline is able to give out (or just pass through) AC3/5.1 via hdmi.
they said yes it's possible...
but I can't get it working. what I can geht is a stereo downmix on the notebook, passing throught via hdmi, prologic upmix with av reciever. -
Could you please try with the Passmark test ( http://www.passmark.com/index.html). Please give the results for the CPU test.
Since your computer has a better graphics card the 3DMarks score cannot be compared with what Jayayess has posted as his 3DMarks score.
Could others too join the party please
