Hey I think I missed the CPU score in the 3DMarks06 pics posted by Maxnik and Jayayess

CPU Score Su3500 for Maxnik gives 667
CPU Score Su9400 for Jayayess gives 1278

So thats double power for Su9400, ofcourse its double core.

Maxnik and Jayayess, thanks a lot !!

Maxnik how is your system startup speed and handling mutliple applications...say some video+browser with a 10-15 tabs open

Still no idea for stopping the fan from running when plugged to the outlet on 3810t?
Any ideas if Acer will release a Bios update taking care of the issue?
Can Smartfan work on the 3810t under Windows 7?

I tried opening 15 tabs using Google Chrome and waching video in the windows media player, while running windows update in the background. I could say that it was ok. There were some slowdowns while loading the pages (not big at all), but even my desktop computer with a 3GHz Core 2 Duo processor have problems doing this. The video took some time before actually started, but again with so many tabs and windows update in the background it was ok. Of course the dual core will be better, especially in some occasions, but it is definitely more expensive.
If you have the money for the dual core it is easily recommended.

audio via HDMI is flawless... and the sound control even shows that you are controlling levels on the HDMI device and not the computer itself. however, something usually related to the use of an HDMI cable on my laptop is not working, and it is something i suspected could cause trouble. my DVD eject key does not seem to work, first it took 20 presses and a 30 second wait for it to come out, now it doesnt seem to work at all unless i use the emergency manual eject. i have tried every method of software ejection i know. anyone else having this problem or have a solution?

Did anyone notice that the touchpad is pressure sensitive? It seems to be for two levels. I have a 4810Tz with the synaptics firmware installed. There seems to be so many little things that this laptop is hiding. Though, after reading about the cpu being soldered on, it kind of made me sad. But I guess it's the price to pay for such a slim design. Also, I don't know about you guys, but these little stickers bother me. Anyone know a good method of getting them off as well as the residue left behind?

Also, I would also like to add that this thread has been really good in terms of information and helpfulness. I thank you all.

    @Pockymaster

Heat the sticker carefully with a blow drier and pull it off. You could cut a hole in size of the sticker out of a piece of cardboard and put it on the device to prevent heating of the rest of the device. You can get off the residue(if there is any) by rubbing with your flat finger for a while(don't use your finger nail).

well i don't get it working for surround sound.
only stereo will work through hdmi

I also have a very loose contact on hdmi, somtimes even without touching the notebook or the cable display goes dark. when moving anything of the notebook just a little the connection brakes.

I've been having problems with the touchpad. Sensitivity and movement is fine. My problem is when i'm browsing or doing something else.. then i put my finger on the pad to move the cursor, the intial touching the computer doesn't sense it. so i have to lift my finger and replace it on the pad and it's fine. i change the sensitivity level to the most sensitive and the problem still existed. it's kind of a nuisance. drivers were all updated with synaptics also. any help or hints? please help. it's been bugging me since i got this laptop. otherwise it's been great. fyi i have the 3810TZ

Try going to device settings in mouse properties. Then go to settings. There should be a bunch of settings to set, from pressure, to rotating to sidescrolling and its sensititivies. There's apparently a palmcheck sensor preventing the cursor to go wild while typing and hitting it by accident. That may be the reason for your problem. Even playing around with the momentum is fun.

    Full of surprises. =)

Just check the 1410/1810t thread ;)
DDR2 doesn't make it slower but it's cheaper, so it's a good thing. Put in 4GB dual channel and fly :)

Does anyone know if I can buy a 3810TG from Europe and just put an U.S. keyboard on it? Will eveything be the same as a normal U.S. Timeline then? Or are there differences? I just wanted the SU9400 and the dedicated graphics card in the U.S. if possible.

Hey I just installed Windows 7 RTM Home Professional but my brightness will fade in and out. This doesn't happen when I hook it up to an external monitor.

Anyone know why that is? I haven't put in a serial yet so I'm wondering if that may be the reason.

    Hi guys,

soon in will stay two weeks in the US and i would like to buy a new laptop. I'm interested in the Acer Aspire Timeline AS3810T-6775 13.3. But i have a question, that decides if i buy this laptop or not: Is the display reflecting or matt?

    Thanks

Glossy display is not good ... than i can't use the laptop outside on sunny days. Here in Germany they sell the so called Acer Travelmate Timeline series, which have a matt display. It seems that this series isn't available in the US or is it? At least in a sunny country like the US it seems logical to have more matt displays :)

I guess you mean Passmark Performance Rating.

In Passmark CPU Mark the SU3500 scores 490.

If the backlight is bright enough, a glossy coating doesn't matter.

Some 3810T have a backlight of over 250 nits = very good for outside use.

Notebookcheck and Notebookjournal have measured the brightness.

I'm only showing about 6 hours of battery life with Windows 7.

Is that the best right now or are their special drivers I need to install?

Agreed. If it is true it needs further investigation. The BIOS version might play a role too. Let's see.

palle22, for confirmation, can you run WPrime?
    http://www.wprime.net/

I'm not sure it's caused by Win 7 but it seems the only logical explanation.

Or Win7 let's his CPU run at 1.6GHz...

If you don't turn on that leafy button you don't get maximum battery life ;)
That fading is supposed to be a "feature". Ok, not the fading itself is a feature but the backlight is lowered and the contrast/brightness is adjusted accordingly to keep readibility.

    also Taskmanager permanent stats:
    physical memory (MB):
    total 2973 (ok 32bit)
    cached 1943
    free 0 - 70

does vista without any running programs use that much memory? (xp needed just about 200MB system cache...)

Yep, AC3/DTS over the hdmi port works! Tried it with my 3810T <-- hdmi --> Philips 47PFL9703 <-- digital coax spdif --> yamaha 440 amp.

    Used software:
Powerdvd Ultra 8.0 (for dxva hardware acceleration)
Media Player Classic Home Cinema Edition (using the powerdvd decoder, so disabled internal h264/avc decoder)

Connect the hdmi port, then play your movie and go to the filters and select the audio decoder settings. There select AC3 and DTS spdif pass-through. Then the audio wil go over the hdmi port.

My television sends the audio through its spdif port to the receveir. The yamaha does the decoding, also shows its digital connection and DTS or Dobly Digital depending on the movie.

Quite interesting thing actually, in High Performance Mode the CPU stays clocked at 1.4Ghz, but once you switch to Balanced Mode and stress the CPU it overclocks automatically to 1.6Ghz. Very practical, since there isn´t any other way to OC the Timeline Series as far as I know! The difference in clockrate also shows in benchmark runs, so I guess Im gonna keep it in Balanced Mode from now on :)

By the way, if anyone is interested: Using the current version of Mobility Modder ( http://www.planet3dnow.de/cgi-bin/file/get.cgi?20090803080324) its possible to mod the regular desktop Catalyst driver in order to work with the Mobility HD 4330. Thus, you get monthly GPU driver updates and dont have to wait for Acer to bring out new ones ;) This way I also finally got the Catalyst Center to work on my system, since it didnt open up before with the Acer driver.

    Greetz
