thanks, glad u like it :) it originally came with a 320GB hard drive, but i swapped it with my current 500 gig one right away (i need loooots of space!) as mentioned earlier, the switchable graphics option is currently unavailable under win7 (im using the 64bit ultimate version) but in the BIOS it works like a charm!

i wouldnt know where to buy one of these in the states tho, since i live in germany. sorry mate!

Hi pplz... I'm new to this forum and have been following this forum particularly this thread for quite sometime. I've just bought the Acer 4810TG yesterday. I'm love this baby!

After fully charging the battery, I got around 6 ++ hours of batt life. I did installations of softwares, many reboots, virus scanning & charging my PDA. It's anytime better than my MSI Wind... xD

Today, I'm planning to test the battery life based on internet surfing, some emailing and listening to MP3s. Let's see how long the batt can last.

I hope you all can help me with some of my queries here.
    1. Are they any shortcut keys or program to turn on/off WiFi just like the Fn+F3 for Bluetooth? It's quite troublesome to go into "Windows Mobility Center" to turn my Wifi on/off.
    2. How to format/gain access to the recovery partition? I'm using Acronis so I don't need the default recovery from Acer.

    Thank you :)

just press the wifi button (the led light is a button)

also tip to calibrate lcd, 3810t model, turn contrast all the way down low as possible and put brightness +1 unit

Just a follow-up. As I mentioned before, I bought the 4810 from Staples with SU3500, 4GB, and 320 GB HD. After makeing the changes to the VGA and the other driver (Thanks again to everyone), I am good to go.

I have the display at 50% brightness and I typicall get 5-6 hours.

As for my uses (Office, large pdf viewing, internet, etc.) I have NO issues with speed. only time there is a problem is if I am downloading new programs...

This is a GREAT road work machine...

One Q - did I understand that it is even faster / smoother in Windows 7?

thanks again everyone - your help is much appreciated

It is faster (at least in my opinion) with Win 7. Just make sure you get the RTM version. However, don't expect more than 6 hours of battery life.

Yeah I don't get why the battery life is decreased. 25% is a lot. Maybe 6 hours is a more reasonable prediction for the life of the Timelines. Who knows.

    Hi,
I have been using 4810TG (SU9400, intel SSD) for several days.
I am happy with it, especially with battery life (9+ hours in real life, with no wifi majority of time (just sometimes to switch on for internet), lowest brightness, and power saving mode)
the only game i tried was Black and White 2; with default medium setting (800X600), it's smooth. I didn't use any software to check for FPS (lazy)

Now, I have one question, is there any way to change the touch-sensitve buttom to other application?e,g set "back-up" buttom to open up firefox...etc.

    Thank you

is your memory speed also at 800MHz? Acer advertises 1066MHz Memory wich is build in, but runs at 800...
it won't be a big performance issue, but it's not what the package says...

can anyone with the 3810t with su9400/onboard video test some games out for me?
the original counterstrike1.6 barely runs at 30fps. is it windows 7 or is it just the slow gfx card not keeping up?

Really? What maps are you trying out? I have the su2700 and i get around 40 fps, with some dipdowns all the way to 20 fps. I'm using vista right now, and I don't think windows 7 would do such a thing? I'm also using the 4500mhd, which, I'm assuming, is what you're using as well.

Also, what resolutions are you playing it at?

it's around the same for me. 30-40fps. then instant unplayable when any firefights occure (10-15fps).
I thought this would do better vs a 10yr old game

Yes. If you go to the Acer driver site at http://global-download.acer.com/GDHome.aspx?SC=PA_6&LC=en and navigate to your Timeline, "Windows 7" (Home Premium, Professional and Ultimate) are now options you can select under operating system. There aren't any new drivers there but it means they're getting ready.

None of the 5810Tx versions have Windows 7 drivers ready as a selection from that link. But 4810TG has windows 7 drivers ready.

I guess, what i want is probably to get the chipset driver and the ATI driver. It feels like the computer is a bit slower than it was in Vista.

It reports back, dual core, and 4GB memory. Sometimes the screen "flickers" when browsing webpages, google sketchup is much slower to work in. Almost like there is no VGA driver installed, even tho the Intel GMA is installed and working. I should mention that ive installed Windows 7 Pro x64, but this shouldn have an influence on the speed in slower direction, it should just speed things a bit up, shouldnt it ?

I'm new to the forum, but can someone tell me if there's any reason not to buy a 3810T w/the SU9400 processor? As far as I can tell it has the fastest CPU from the current slim/light models, includes bluetooth, and is being sold for the lowest price vs. others ($799 in the US, the Asus is about the same with no bluetooth and a slower CPU).

Also, when trying to find more information on the CULV processors, it looks like Intel used Acer's computers to do the benchmarks.

Im having an HDMI issue with my timeline 4810t... I want to preface this with the fact that my HDMI out DID work at one point. When i plug the HDMI into my TV and the Timeline, the laptop screen flashes like it normally does, but then the TV screen shows static flashing on and off... no audio or video. This issue seems to happen most of the time, but sometimes unplugging and plugging back into the timeline a few times can make it work. For display adapters, i have the Mobile intel chipset version 8.15.10.1872. There is a newer version available on acer.com, but when i tried to install it, the install seemed to go very quickly (quicker than it should) and it did not require a reboot. after the install i checked the device manager again to see if i had the newer version, but i did not. i tried installing it again as an admin (and then again as an admin AND in vista compatibility mode) and rebooting, and again the driver is on the same 8.15.10.1872 version it was before. In device manager, for monitors, all i have is "Generic PnP monitor"

I am most worried that this is actually a physical hardware issue rather than a software one, and my HDMI out is physically broken (in which case i would have to screw around for a few weeks sending this thing back to acer to be fixed... though i am still in warranty) can anyone help out here? I really would like to at least get the newest intel drivers on there if i can.

EDIT: seems to have temporarily stopped, maybe the updates did something that it didnt show...

Hey everyone. I just received the 5810TZ in the mail today and already removed all the bloatware as well as removed Mcafee. I logged on to Acer's website and know there are many different BIOS versions at this point but would like to know which versions everyone has used and what they recommend? Also which video driver do I update to make sure I keep the system running at maximum performance. System is SU2700 Vista 32bit.

Also so far I love the computer. Build quality is definitely high and speed seems to be more than ample for what I do (light excel, internet browsing, downloading, MP3, Windows Media Player). I already signed up for the Windows 7 Update which should be here by Oct 22nd! So I hope that improves the system even more.

So I know this was mentioned WAAAAAAAAAY back in the thread, but can anyone here recommend a laptop sleeve that fits the 3810t? Most of the ones I come across are 12.5, and I'm not sure the 12.7 x 9 x 1.1 of the 3810t will fit (no store around me has a 13.3" laptop sleeve, so I have to buy online).

    Thanks!

I'm on the fence. Love the design and require at least a 14" screen plus see DVD ROM as imperative with HDMI out, so looking at the 4810T variants but have a few questions if you folks wouldn't mind helping me out.

    1. Do you find either the of the 1.3Ghz or 1.4Ghz Core Solo variants adequate for 720p (maybe even 1080p) x264 playback? What about Apple Quicktime trailers at either 720p or 1080p? HD Youtube? I presume that if you know how to set up the most optimized codec environment for x264 (e.g. CoareAVC, matroska, etc.) that you probably know how to get rid of the bloatware or outdated drivers responsible for a lot of this model's bad performance wrap.

    2. Related to #1, do you see any discernible real world difference between such a negligible difference in cpu speed? The price difference is ~ $100 and I don't care about the extra gig of RAM as IMO, it's a waste so don't want to spend the extra $100 if the performance difference is 1-5%. Best price AFAICT for the 4810T w/ SU2700 is ~$530

    3. Anyone in the US have the SU9400 4810 (Acer 4810T-6937)? They are SOOOO difficult to find... I'm thinking Acer discontinued? And the price difference at the one vendor I could find is almost double when compared to the 1.3ghz 8410 model at ~ 1k in USD

    4. Dumb but simple yes or no questions here: The low end 4810 has a dvd burner? Bluetooth radio? internal mic?

Thank you so much to owners of fans of this great looking notebook!

Edit: Also saw someone a few posts up mention a 4810TG model... not seeing it on Acer's US webpage (below) and searching online only shows a single core SU3500 model, not duo SU9400 and all 4810s seem GMA. Wonder why Acer does so many variants in different markets instead of a standardized 1-2 variants per model. It took me a day of researching just do discern all the differences in the current aspire deals, let alone the variants within each model. And I can tell the merchants aren't faring any better in dissecting the differences as I see multiple listings for the same laptop on two major retail outlet websites, ALL at different prices.

I am also using the model stated above (4810TG (Core 2 Duo SU9400 1.4Ghz / Intel GMA 4500MHD / ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330 512MB / 4 gb ram)) but I have "serious" runtime problems - under Windows 7 (Voltoptimization, shut-down of unneccessary services, ATI card deactivated, latest drivers) I get only a maximum of 3 hours of runtime. All the time the fan is running - even for low CPU load (and set to "Passiv" under the power options).
The fan starts to run directly when I switch on the notebook and never shuts down (under Ubuntu Linux it does not too).

I have the 4810. Resolution is 1366x768. I am trying to connect to a wide HP 20" monitor that can do 166x900, but it only lets me go to 1280x768.

Does anyone know how to get the higher res on the external monitor? I used to be able to do this on my previous HP laptop

Never mind - I had to turn off the laptop display...works great.

Awesome! Is that with the Intel GMA?! I read something about DXVA but wasn't sure if it'd apply to x264 or what exact profile it was talking about. Please confirm.

Link is down so can't see the guide. But related to, can this be achieved with zoom player, core, and Haali's on the 1.3ghz 4810 with Intel GMA 4500MHD??? This is very good news if it's true!

Edit: Hmmm... on 2nd thought, maybe not CoreAVC as that's Soft CPU decoding or with Nvidia Cuda. Maybe... Cyberlink H.264/AVC Decoder (HD264), in which case I can output that codec just fine in zoom.

Can someone please advise on this when they know? I'm excited at the prospect of GMA 4500MHD decoding of h/x.264 on the timeline... with CPU under 10% in many instances I've read! It's weird, but from what I've read this is a system where you DON'T want dedicated ATI graphics both for the decreased battery life and now this. hardware accelleration of AVC and H.264, on integrated graphics no less! I guess I don't need to anticipate Nvidia Ion anymore if this the case.

Also, some people brag about Win 7's capability to do this out the door with native codecs, but I'd prefer to not use the sucky WMP for video playback if I can help it, and wonder if it's just a matter of using cyberlink's codec and EVR, both of which can be achieved in Vista or XP.
