Anyone know how to:
1 - keep wireless off after reboot (intel 5100)
2 - keep bluetooth on after reboot
The wireless seems to always come back on and the bluetooth remain off.

So I upgraded to Windows 7 and now my SU9400 is having trouble playing 1080p HD. I just installed new Intel drivers for 7 from their website but I have a 17 GB Movie that is having problems. I'm using Media Player Classic with the Combined Community Codec Pack.

Hi Guys,
I brought me the 3810TG and installed Windows 7 - I have troubles with the switchable graphics card and read, that its an existing problem.
Does anybody have a solution for me to get both cards running? Could be also driver modding etc...
Thanks for you help,
Regards. -
@giantroXx
The first thing I would do is update to the latest BIOS. There is a changelog floating around somewhere that mentions several switchable graphics bugs that have been removed over time. -
Hi,
I have already installed the latest Bios version. I think my problem are outdated drivers for Windows 7... -
@giantroXx
This is what I've found:

I had this problem when I tried to install Win7. You need to press F12 at boot and there should be two CD/DVD drives listed. Choose the one that is NOT USB (I think its ATAPI).
-
Hope to get a solution for this problem soon...

This is only a minor problem but it's starting to be annoying. Sometimes the top left portion of my keyboard will "pop" up and I'll need to press down on the Esc key to get it back in place. If you look at the top of the keyboard there are 5 little tabs (Esc, F4, F8, F12, and Del) and I don't know why but the top left one doesn't seem to be working too well for me. Anyone know what I can do?

Hi every body,
I've got a problem with my 4810TG. I've post there : http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=408999 but maybe here i will have more result
The problem of the recovery is that the file in the USB Key must be correct named file and i have no idea of the good name. So i come to you for help.
Do you know the good sequence for this ?
Or do you think about an over solution for avoiding a retour to manufacturer...
Thank you ;-) -
I am in the same boat as gaora - did you try it yet?
I have a lot of things open but rarely processing more than 1 or 2 at one time. AT most I will do an email search (this seems to be the biggest hog) while I am opening other things, entering into excel, researching online, etc.
I don't think the 9400 is coming to the 4810 or 5810 very soon, and when it does it will be $200 - 300 more like the 3810....I guess if it does not work I can return it in 14 days at staples... -

hey guys!
a while back there was the question of the SU9400 overclocking itself to 1.6Ghz erradically when the laptop was set to "balanced" mode. well, i found some more info on this (by accident, actually) while checking out the current version of CPUID's PC Wizard:
I googled this Intel Dynamic Acceleration thing and as it turns out, its an integrated overclocking mechanism in the CPU, but its limited to ONE Core, so its actually quite similar to the Core i7's Turbo Mode! Quite neat, dont u think?

The SU3500 does the same thing. As far as I know it's useless though.
-
Now you need a program to disable speedstep and lock the multiplier at 8x
Did you try to set the multiplier with crystalcpuid ? -
If anyone here has one of the Timeline models with the Intel SSD, I would very much appreciate it if you could download this little benchmarking tool:
http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/1137/ATTO_Disk_Benchmark_v2.34.html
run it, wait for it to finish, take a screenshot of the results screen, and post it here.
Thank you in advance. -
-
Thanks for doing that. The read speeds are great, but the writes are terrible. A couple questions for you:
1) Does your machine have an application installed on it called "Intel Matrix Storage Manager," and have you enabled write caching in it?
2) How long have you been using the laptop, and is the SSD nearly filled? Do you do a lot of reading and writing data?
(Make sure that you run the ATTO program "as administrator") -
tough nut to crack. baybe it just needs some time, since the timeline series is pretty new. oc programs would still need to be adapted ;-) at least im hoping thats the way its gonna go. for now, im off to bed, g`nite folks!

2. 1 month, typical usage is internet surfing, office docs, light gaming. The drive has 23.5 GB free.
Reran as administrator and the write times improved slightly. -

Is 1080p quicktime playback good on 3810t dual core?
-
Have you tested the max battery time with the su9400/SSD combination?
I've been really interested in seeing the 13.3" Timeline/su9400/SSD with the ATI video here in the states, but it hasn't showed it's face yet it seems.
If you like the technological side of stuff, and you have some free time on your hands, have a look at Anandtech's SSD anthology:
http://www.anandtech.com/printarticle.aspx?i=3531 -
I am using a 3-SSD RAID-0 setup, so I'm not completely sure that your disk will appear as my array does in the Intel Console, but I would expect to see something similar.
Edit: Volume write back cache not available via IMSM on non-raid volumes. See post 1184. -
One more quick one while I'm at it ... with the Intel 4500HD video, if you plug the HDMI cable into a flat panel television, does it also carry the audio via the HDMI?
What about the folks with the ATI video? -
-

I suppose on non-raid machines (single disks) that it's controlled via device manager. This doesn't exactly explain the presence of the Intel Matrix Storage Manager software ...
(in Vista)
-Enabling or Disabling the Disk Write Caching:
-Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
-Click the Hardware tab.
-Click Device Manager.
-Click the plus sign (+) next to the Disk Drives branch to expand it.
-Right-click the drive on which you want to enable or disable disk write caching, and then click Properties.
-Click the "Policies" tab.
-Click to select or clear the Write Cache Enabled check box as appropriate.
-Click OK.
The advanced performance checkbox is applied at your own risk, and benchmarks have traditionally given mixed results with it checked/unchecked. -
-
Then I questioned the reason for the Intel Matrix Storage Manager software at all in single disk configurations. I appears that there is a performance improvement via AHCI, but no control for write back caching in this scenario.
I'll head back and edit those other posts if I can. -
As far as battery life I havent done any tests but I take this computer to work without the power cord and leave it on all day ~9 hours in the balanced mode and their is still power left when I plug it in at home to charge. The battery drops much quicker when playing a Bluray on the external drive I bought, so as always its really a function of what load you put on the battery. That being said the battery life on this machine BLOWS away any other laptop I have used by at least double and likely triple the life. -
Battery life is impressive!
Sure hope we can see the ATI video at some point. -
edit: sucks to be american in this case ;-) -
Jaybee, can you confirm if you get audio through your HDMI->TV using the ATI video on your unit?
Sidenote, do you have two different machines, you list both Intel and ATI video in your sig? -
I'm dying to get a 4810TG. Just waiting for the day it's available here in the US.
-
I'm not sure what the ATI video will do that the Intel can't handle? Maybe 3d game graphics? I'm not sure the processor can do much in the way of gaming. I have had no problems playing HD video files, Bluray, streaming video, java, etc with the Intel video. -
-
Maybe you're right, Lumpy. I guess we're just always hoping for the best of all worlds all packed into a little notebook at some point. -
I listed both the Intel and ATI graphic units, cuz theyre both implemented in the laptop. Although the switchable graphics tool doesnt currently work in Win7, one can choose which unit to work with in the BIOS. Very practical for either gaming or long battery life -
-
Lumpy, Jaybee, thanks for the responses here. The info is much appreciated!
(Jaybee ... you know OCZ makes a kickin' SSD called Vertex that would slide right in that puppy ... of course you'd have to give up a little hard disk size for performance)
Jaybee, were you able to secure all the necessary drivers otherwise for Windows 7? Have folks been able to successfully register for the free Win7 upgrade coming next month? -
im regularly keeping an eye on the current SSD developments and prices, but it would still be too expensive for me. all in all, space is more important for me than performance (altho im still going for the currently fastest 2.5" magnetic drive, since the difference in pricing there would only be a couple of bucks). i guess ill wait till the SSD capacities and prices will have come into a 130-150% range of the magnetic drives
installing the drivers on win7 was no problem at all. in fact, i only had to manually add the drivers for my 3G modem and the enhanced touchpad features. I also installed a modded catalyst desktop driver, but that wasnt really a necessity.
Greetz
edit: oh yeah, the win7 upgrade option - no biggie, just go online, put in ur adress and the laptops serial number plus ur credit card info (for 15 bucks shipment) and thats it! -
Still no news on keeping the fan quiet?

So I bought the 4810 from staples for $549 last week - 3500 w 4GB. I put in the new drivers from Acer site, not BIOS yet (scared to go there).
I must have really low standards, and I am sure that my 3 year old HP dual core must be really slow now due to start-up issues, bloatware, corrupted files, etc., but this little machine is great for me. I use it for outlook, pdf viewing, media player, surfing, wireless connections, etc. - mostly work stuff. I have had minimal slowing if I am say burning a DVD and trying to search outlook and surfing the web.....but how often do you do that? I don't game or watch movies...
PROS:
- weight
- keyboard is great
- NO noise
- NO heat
- snappy enough processor for me
- good HD (I had 250GB before)
- great screen, even at 60% for battery saving
- wireless is 2X stronger than old machine
CONS
- occasional slowing as mentioned
- cannot connect to external monitor, mouse, keyboard and then close lid and power up...my HP had a remote that let you do that
I am taking it on the road tomorrow for 10 days and will see how it goes...I can return it if problems...
I will let you know, but so far, for casual business use (Office, etc.) it works great...
thanks for everyone's help -
@jaybee
I really like the timeline config you have. Did it really come with switchable graphics (via BIOS at least)? Also, do you know where I might be able to get one in the states? -
