Sorry again - two questions about my battery:
1) It's absolutly normal that it needs nearly 4-5 hours to load completly from 0% to 100% ?
2) If reached 100% and is turned on, it's better to remove the battery?
Or does the Timeline deactive the battery?
Some Notebooks reloads 99-100%, 99-100%, others loads when battery fallen under 90% .. I hope the Timeline never does this - Full is Full - I would be very disapointed, if I have to remove the battery each time when used with the power supply. -
Thanks for the link! Thought about this when I heard of Windows 128bit OS roadmaps.
One more thing to anyone. Have you figured out how to utilize the boot recovery tool (if there even is one) to access the recovery partition, or does it have to be through the Acer Recovery utility in Windows? I've tried f8 and f10, doesn't work... -
Hello my fellow Acer owners!
I am currently on my 2nd 3810TZ laptop (RMAed the 1st one). I'm curious if you guys are experiencing the same problem or possibly have a solution for it:
1. LCD Brightness for each powerplan (found in power options) is defaulted near 100%, so I change it to 50% and save changes. But everytime I restart or come back from sleep mode, the brightness settings all reset and become 100% again. It is very frustrating because I hate the bright screen but everytime I change it to 50% and SAVE, after any reboot the setting is gone and resetted.
2. Whenever you type, if you quickly try to move your mouse theres a 2-3 second delay--that is right after you type though. The mousepad function and keyboard seems to have lagged connection time. Every time I type something and try to scroll my mouse right after, theres always an annoying delay time.
Please tell me if I am too picky or these are problems everyone is facing as well but have ignored. Thanks =)

I have problem number 2, just noticed it due to your post. Don't know how to fix it. -
new BIOS for 4810 V2.3 is out , successfully upgraded, VT is enabled
-
This is caused by Acer ePower Management. Remove it and it will work.
My 1810t behaves like this too, keyboard and touchpad don't work at the same time. It might be a touchpad driver problem. -
quick question for u guys:
i just noticed an "optical drive PM" app in the 3810TG section. does that make any sense to u, since the 3810 models dont actually HAVE an optical drive?
cheers -
Could you find out any changed that this BIOS version brings?
-
You have to disable the palmcheck from your synaptics menu by dragging the bar to minimum. From there on, you can use both the keyboard and touchpad at the same time. There are also a bunch of fun options in the menu too. You can get there by right clicking the synaptics icon in the right taskbar area, go to pointing devices properties, select device settings and click the settings button. From there, the palmcheck should be in sensitivity.
There's also a trackball simulator. -
How do i partitionate my Timeline-harddrive? whether i use Partiotion Magic or other software it fails me? I've never had this problem before, i think it would be nice to have secondary drive where i could keep my important stuff. So i dont loose it if i have to format:c.
And how do i get to delete and combine the small 12bg Acer partition? I've made the backup-dvd's and could use the extra space, but i cant get to fumble with it somehow.
And a last question. Do all the Vista drivers work with Windows 7? I consider using my Win7 RC until i get my Acer Win7 with the mail here in October. -
Anyone upgraded Timeline's HDD? Ant effect for battery life if 7200rpm drives are used?
-
im using easeus partition master and it worked like a charm when i repartitioned my hard drive, even with the acer recovery partition. concerning win7, u can just go ahead and use all the vista drivers. thats what i did, since ive been using win7 ever since i bought my timeline and there werent that many win7 drivers available yet. and why dont u just use the win7 RTM version? just get a copy from the internet and use the 30 day evaluation period until u get ur win7 license and can legally activate it. this way, u wont have to do a clean install when u upgrade from win7 RC to RTM ;-)
i got a seagate momentus 7200.4 hdd in my timeline and i didnt really notice any significant drop in battery life. i mean, were talking about a consumption increase of.....what, one percent? half a percent? its negligible, really
greetz -
Thanks for the reply im going to take a look at easeus partition master. Concerning Win7 RTM i've heard that you cant activate your "acer win7 key" like you say.
Btw am i the only one who is extremely annoyed by fan-noise, when the pc is connected to A/C? (3810tg SU9400) Unplugged i just love this machine, but when connected to the power cord i almost need earmuffs. The fan runs constantly and quite loud. Im not sure i can bring the machine to the auditorium at my university plugged to the A/C, i will attract to much attention.
Isn’t it possible to get the machine to be silent also when connected to A/C?
Edit: Easeus Partition Master dosn't seem to work for me. Like the other partition programs it won't work as if it was a normal "from-the-box hdd". The field "create" is grayed out. This SS will illustrate: Click here -
Noone? Specially point 2).
-
well u cant create a new partition as long as there is no drive space available. u would first have to delete the recovery partition and then resize C: to take up all the space on the hard disk

I hope this is not the same on all Timeline notebooks , or i aint buying one.

It is true, mine has the fan running all the time on AC power. It is annoying, but not as annoying as my Inspiron 9100 with its Pentium 4 was.
And its been 2 days and Acer still has yet to contact me. -
i love this website.

Tinderbox (UK) BAKED BEAN KING
Now that VT has been enabled on some if not all timeline models with a new firmware, is there an enable/disable control now in the bios?
-
i think they meant two work days, but since its weekend now, its still gonna take a while
-
well i made a lil mistake there, since the RTM version available online is equal to a win7 ultimate, thus the acer license for win7 home premium wouldnt work there, of course. but its also fact, that u can do both an "on-the-fly" upgrade from vista to win7 home premium AND a clean install from a win7 upgrade dvd. its got the whole OS on the disc!
cheers -

I got myself the 3810T / SU9400 + Intel only
Pretty much got what I expected, at a hammer price (640€
. The laptop is flawless, battery life superior, performance awesome, design and build amazing.
Also using DXVA properly with KMPlayer, getting 5% cpu load for 1080p and ~3.5% for 720p.
Only thing missing, is that I can't seem to get undervolting via RMClock to work properly, I set it up but it just ignores the values
But if that's fixed, there is absolutely nothing to say about it.

# So many Acer Users arround - and noone can tell me what's best for the battery? '_'
There are so many google answers outthere - and everyone tells something different for different Notebook.
I would really like to know how the Acer Timeline is managing this. -
delete, delete, I eat meat!

You need to remove the keyboard and under the keyboard there is a metal-cage which you have to remove too.
-
There are apparently two new BIOS versions on Acer's website. One is labeled version 1.30 and dated 10/08. The other is labeled version 2.30, and dated 10/09.
Unfortunately, Acer does not include changelogs with their new BIOS versions. Has anyone installed either one of these? -
I've read so much from both ends of the topic... each side claiming to be top notch engineers, worked specifically with lithium ion batteries, etc. etc.
one side says charge charge charge. Other says no no no.
one side says deplete completely (periodic calibration), other side says no, more harm than good; it will reduce life of battery and is not necessary with current batteries which have no memory effect.
some say recharge infrequently and use battery charge completely w/ positive results, others say leave plugged in all the time with similarly positive results.
So... real world results from regular people seemingly favor and disfavor both (if that makes any sense).
I'm not picking sides, but I lean toward letting the battery discharge more, but not completely. This is particularly so with my phones as I"m on my 3rd handset battery and my wife on her 1st and I used to charge it waaaay too much.
More info:
http://lifehacker.com/5364784/unplug-your-laptop-regularly-when-in-doubt
There's a gazillion other links I can't find righ now. Really exhausting, particularly when people debate... -
I've tried both and didn't find any difference in BIOS.
-
This is pretty irrelevant. Let it stay connected or remove the battery. It will stop charging when the battery is full and run from mains alone then. I don't know at how many percent it starts recharging, but that is not relevant either, it won't hurt the battery. A few years ago I thought about it, but nowadays I don't care anymore, because every modern laptop should handle this quite well on its own.

Ok. I just bought a 4810tz (su2700) - the guy I bought it from lost the battery, so I need to buy a new one? Is this one just as good as any? http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=212442383&listingid=52779477 - or what battery should I get?
Also, any tweaks I should be aware of? I am planning on installing Windows 7 today. -
you not the only one...
and no fan speed program yet...

Have a Zepto G14B with P9700 CPU and GT130M GPU and Flash movies are always jerky full screen. Let's face it... Flash is, and always has been, CRAP!

for those who get bugged by the fan always running on ext. power (and still using vista):
I'm using a powersupply with switchable voltages and plugs here, and the fan starts only when the temp rises. the plug seems not to fit right, but windows says running on psu / charging battery. a little movement on the power connector starts the fan. my guess is, there's a third contact in the jack witch starts the fan. a little tape on the power connector might solve the problem. -
well i installed windows 7 in my 3810t su3500 and everything went ok but i forgot to make a backup of the acer software before upgrading. can someone get me a link to download powersmart manager, erecovery, etc.
thanks -
Powersmart manager is only available in VISTA.... as of the moment no Win7 or XP versions.
-
I belive the 4810 has power smart in win 7 download section. and it did install on my 3810T with no problems!

Does Acer`s ePower Management/PowerSmart application switch from Aero to the basic theme in Windows Vista Home Premium, when going to battery power?
I have read some conflicting posts/reviews etc, on My 3810T Timeline I can see the ePower/PowerSmart application reduces screen brightness and clearly changes other settings for the video card, however Aero remains unchanged, and Acer has little documented on the functionality of ePower/PowerSmart (green leaf)
I know a third party app ( Battery Care) that will switch themes and stop some services to further conserve battery power,it is primarily a battery life meter like "Battery Bar" etc, only the functionality looks to be more useful.
Thanks Q-6 -

Using a 3810TG, just upgraded my Vista SP2 installation to Windows 7 RTM. Performance is good but getting really bad battery life so far (just testing for half a day). Maybe 3-4 hours on the battery meter, whereas I used to get 7-8 hours with Vista SP2.
The 3810TG has switchable graphics (ATI 4330 / Intel 4500). I just tried switching to ATI graphics and still get the same 3-4 hour battery life. I suspect it could be a graphics driver issue (using VGA_ATI_v.8.640.4.1_Win7x86x64 drivers off the Acer site).
EDIT: After letting Windows 7 'settle down' for a few days, it seems to be better. I'm now getting good battery life readings again.
I think the graphics driver is important for the switchable graphics models (like the 3810TG). If you don't install the proper driver, the power consumption is much higher. -
I didn't read all the pages hope you can forgive me for that, but I thought I would share this tip. If you can't use storage devices 8gb+ do the following:
Update to latest BIOS, Install Vista SP2 if you haven't and uninstall realtek card reader thing.
(Dunno about win7) -
I can't seem to find it on the 4810 Windows 7 section. Can you paste the link here? Thanks.
-
It has been removed from the acer website.
I'm not sure why but I do know it works, it changes the graphic card from ati to the intel one when I turn on the green leaf. (I've got the 4810TG)
the file was called: PowerSmart Manager_Acer_4.01.3000_W7x86_A
I can send you the file if you want me to. -
how many of you consider to send your 3810s to the service for the recall issue
does anyone have overheating issues? -
In the downloads section there are new drivers for the build-in webcam. How do I find out which one to install for my 3810TZ? The choices for my Windows 7 64 machine are:
Thanks for any tips!
