has anyone figured out why battery life on windows 7 is so low?

I think its because the CPU voltage is around .875 on Vista, as opposed to .900 on windows 7, but would a 0.025v difference cause a 30+ minute battery life discrepancy?

It's really odd how ACER does not put any changelogs.... my 3810T is working flawlessly. I'm not gonna update untill I'm sure that the changes are.

That's simple - you should just go to your local Acer's website and select something like "drivers downloads" from there. The page of global-download will open then in the separate frame. For instance, when I'm going from EMEA sites, it opens at http://global-download.acer.com/GDHome.aspx?SC=EMEA_23 and then I can select anything. It's THAT simple :p

For a difference of aprox. $100 is it worth going from the AS3810TZ-4078 to the AS3810T-8737?

The only 2 differences I could spot are SU4100 vs. SU7300, so essentially an extra 1MB of cache.
    Also the "T" supports 802.11a, "TZ" doesn't, but I don't care for 'a'.

Am I missing something for such a large price difference over what seems a minor upgrade?

IMHO, not worth it because virtually there will be no difference in terms of performance unless you will use VT. I doubt any people will be using VT for a ULV CPU because performance is already low.

I would rather use the 100 bucks to upgrade RAM or HDD and get some accesories.

That's what I was thinking. Anyway I'll probably have dual boot on this machine just for safety.

One more question, does the keyboard on the 3810 series have any flex or clicking from being loosely mounted or anything as such?

I originally had the UL20a and UL30a in the mix, and even though I prefer the 12.1" size, I ran away from both when I saw users saying the keyboards rattled or flexed.

I already back ordered AS3810TZ-4078 from newegg before the price went up after the sale ended. It says they'll have it in stock on 12/1!

I have a 3810T and there is no flex in the keyboard, unless you are very heavy handed. I was initially skeptical when I tried the demo in the store as it lacked feedback, however this was not the case for the retail unit and I find the keyboard to better than most

Thanks - but I have a simple question - is there a simple way to know which drivers and from which site, etc. to download? I have used Acer's disks to successfully load Win 7. The Acer website says this:

"After You’ve Completed Your Upgrade, You'll Need to Update Your Drivers." n And they link you to the standard driver site:

    http://gd.panam.acer.com/home/

The post above says you have to download such and such driver from the manufacturers site, etc.

There are about 30 drivers on the Acer site...there are also applications like Power manager....do I have to download them all? How the hell do you figure this all out?

I have received the combined GSM/GPS antennas now and tried them out. So far they have not made a difference.
It would have been smarter of me to start off by buying a pigtail so i could have used an active antenna for testing.

I will not give up. From all the specs i read, nothing seems to indicate that the GPS function is blocked on the 382E unit. They only differate them as dual band and quad band what GSM is concerned.

    What works:

-GPS Data Interface streams NMEA data, though not with any locational information.

-GPS Device is recognized by third-party software. Status given as Receiving Data

    What dont work:

-Not able to get the first fix.

Reading a little about this, a cold start needs 40 seconds under perfect conditions to download the almanac and calculate its position. The worse the conditions, the longer time. It also needs a minimum of 3 satelites to get a fix, 5 to calculate height. It might take up to 20 minutes if the conditions are not good.
Unfortunatly, my conditions here are far from good for testing. My car gps usually only locks to 4-5 satelites and sometimes loose fix as well.

I think my next approach will be to experiment a little with the Assisted-GPS function. This should shorten the cold-start time considerably and hopefully get me a fix. But first I need to do a little cleaning up as my process of uninstalling/installing the drivers has put me in the com 20+ area.

I have done the firmware updates. Still not able to get anything above .20 driver to work. The fault I get with .26 and .30 is IP conflict. Might be from leftover traces from earlier drivers. As said, I get assigned a higher com port for every driver install, even though I uninstalled and deleted the previous drivers first.

Be back here as soon as I achieve anything.

    Thanks.

PS: Anybody knows if number of found satelites can be read from the data stream?

I happen to have both the 5810T with SU3500 and the Asus ul80vt and like them both. I just received the Asus from Amazon last week and have been very happy with it. The build quality is very good(at least this one, I know there have been complaints, but Asus seems very responsive, even to monitoring and answering posts in the Amazon forums) I actually like the keyboard better, the keys have a matte finish which I find easier to type with.

Both are very nice machines. With the Asus having the SU7300 and dual switchable graphics (NVidia G210M or the IntelIntel GMA 4500MHD), in addition to a larger battery, I would have to give it the nod. Also, a better warranty. 2 years global and 1 year accidental damage. Also, Amazon is throwing in a $100.00 gift card if you order before 12-21.

I have given the Acer to my husband. He's a happy guy!

    Hello all ..
Recently i had bought as3810tz-4925 with su4100 and 3 gb of ram.

Is there any way to allocate manually ram to X4500 ?
In bios there is an option saying it has 64 mb and it`s grey , I can not start some old games saying they need at lest 128mb

My second problem is the clock and ratio for the ram. Memory is PC3-8500 so it should work on at least 533Mhz but ratio CPU/RAM is 6/12 (1/2) so it works on 400MHz with so lazy latencies like cl6 that it is much much slower than any ddr2 .. ?? , where is the point installing ddr3 ....

Is there any modified bios, or some magic menu or maybe a program to change this settings.

I was considering buying 2x2gb of pc3-10666 (1333MHz) but there is no point if it will work on fsb 400 witch multiplier 1/2 ( effectively 400mhz )
    Sorry for my english.

I've downloaded the latest BIOS (Windows 7 Home Premium) from the Acer site but get an error message when I run InsydeFlash saying that "this BIOS is not for your notebook PC".

This is despite the fact that the file clearly says it is for the 3810TG - although the flash app says that my Current BIOS is Aspire 3810TG v 1.07 and the New BIOS is JM31SJM3 v 1.15

If this isn't the correct file for my computer where it the right one - if it is why will it not work? Anyone any ideas?

Also, has anyone else had trouble with recent updates to Windows 7 freezing their Timeline on StartUP - on the 'Starting Windows' page ? I've had to completely reinstall Windows 7 and turn off auto updates for the time being.

I just bought the 4810TZ-4696. I love the overall notebook the only thing I hate is the Atheros Wireless card. It keeps dropping the signal and although I updated the driver the speed is still horrible.
atheros AR5B91 ( I upgraded to the latest driver from their website to 7.7.0.329)

    Please advise

very unqualified and misplaced remark without any evidence to back it up :) actually, ive had similar if not the same issues with asus, for example. thats just the way computers are, they need constant supervision and problem-solving capabilities, especially if ure not happy with the phrase "never change a running system" ;-)

Either way, i find this whole branding thing ridiculous. To be honest, I find that if you're not going to pony up the premium, there's an increased risk of getting defects. And I've seen how many people treat their laptops, (yes, anecdotal evidence, but whatever) and a lot of twisting of wires, yanking them out of the wall outlets, constantly disconnecting and reconnecting the charger, would probably warrant what many people call "production defects" when really it's user error/abuse.

Long story short, you get what you pay for, m i rite?

Well, I guess that's my rant for the day.

I just bought a AS3810T-8737 and want an additional power supply to keep at the office.

I see there are many options out there expensive to cheap, just wondered if anybody had any suggestions/comments in particular.

I searched this thread and 'The Ultimate ACER Resource Thread ' and didn't get any hits.

    Hi all,

I just upgraded my 3810 to Windows 7 Home Premium. Previously with Vista, Bluetooth will work automatically but now my mobile phone cannot discover the 3810.
Sorry if this is newbie question but could please advise the following:
    1. How do we turn on / off Bluetooth with 3810?
    2. Where can I find Bluetooth icon for settings such as Discoverable, Name, etc? Can't seem to find this in Control Panel.

Thank you very much for all your help!

I'm afraid I have the same problem and feel up the creek without a padddle. Acer appear to have abandoned answering their support emails or are hiding behind the "OS not shipped with the computer will not be suuported line". Sucks.

I'm considering booking mine in for servicing - but not sure of they will sort out the OS and driver issues.

    Hi there...
has anybody a working colorprofile for the timelines (for me a 3810tg would be nice)
someone with a colorimeter might have one. I know every display should have its own calibration, but still it should be better than using a sRGB Profile on a RGB-LED Display...

I have also got the 3810TG and can't get my Bluetooth to work since upgrading to Win7 with the Acer pack. If I try to install the BT driver off the site I get a message saying that Bluetooth is switched off - but how do you switch it back on. Incidentally I've checked the Services and they are 'started' and on auto.

the first timeline i got (3810T su3500) came with optronics, which was fairly good. the replacement i got after the recall thing (3810TZ su4100) came with lg/philips which was awesome (comparable to vaios) but in minimum brightness i get a slight flickering noticeable only at total darkness

How can I see the LCD panel manufacturer? Any utility I can use?

    BTW:
Is it possible to make bluetooth default to 'on/active'? Everytime I start my 3810T I have to activate bluetooth with Fn+F3 to use mye BT mouse..
