Just bought a 4810tg and installed w7 x64. Strange thing is I can't flash bios. 1.20 right now, but according to Acer site there are 4 newer, till 2.31. Tried them all, when starting to install the bios it shows the message 'this bios is not for your notebook pc' ?
not that I need to flash, but on intel vga the fan spins a lot faster than the hd4330, something a new Bios might cure. And because I don't game it would increase battery life on the onboard vga. strange? -
-
and just google it its easy to find -

Quick question: Does the 3810T with SU9400 support hardware virtualization with the latest BIOS (1.20)?
-
Short question: Which driver for the 3810 TGs ATI is best and where to get it? Is it possible to run AtiTrayTools on it? How is the routine to install it properly? I didn't find an exact answer in the last 10 threadpages....please help
---
by the way: could the fan glitch have something to do with the covert air slot just next to the fan? Within my 3810 there is plastic plate or something covering just these slots...so the fan takes the air from the whole case, not from outside?! -

Quick question: I have Windows 7 Ultimate on my 1410, economy profile set, and when just running just an ebook reader (Mobipocket Reader) and nothing more, the hdd never go idle or spin down to save battery. Win 7 keeps reading or writing to hdd, thus preventing it go idle. Any ideas to change configs enabling th hdd go idle ?
TIA, William. -
Go into your power management for the profile you are using...this may help.
-
The profile (economy/battery mode) is correctly set; the problem is caused by the System task of Win 7, which never ceases the read/writing activity to the hdd, therefore preventing it going idle. Anyone has observed this behaviour on his/her machine ?
TIA, William. -
interesting article for this topic (lower battery life in win7):

i have heard back and forth things in regards to win7 on these timelines. i have a 3810tz. anybody out there put win7 on here and got same/better battery life? right now, on vista.. i'm getting a good 7-8 hours on a full charge. i don't want to upgrade and lose the time. i'd rather stick with vista.
anybody with a definitive answer? -
Since the fan of the Acer 3810TZG speeds up more often with bios 1.20, i´d like to know how to flash back the bios to an older version...
Also, is it possible to overclock the cpu? (Pentium Dual Core SU4100)
Thanks! -
My 3810T was the same going from super quiet to jet turbine after upgrading 1.20, so I stepped back to 1.17. What I did was edit the " platform" file with notepad which can be found in the Windows folder in the BIOS download zip file from Acer changing the Bios version flag from 1 to 0, this then allows you to downgrade via Windows.
Before
[Bios_version_check]
flag=1
After
[Bios_version_check]
flag=0
Just be mindful this is a little more risky than using DOS, I performed a cold start first then applied the BIOS downgrade, don't run any additional programs, in this case less is better. -
abstrakt....
I am running Win7Ult64Bit and am always over 8 hours...close to 10 when I have eveything shut down. I run with the balanced power/wifi/bt and e-mail checking every 2 minutes while I surf the net. -
On my 3810TG I also prefer BIOS 1.17 to 1.20. 1.17 spins the fan slower, and the battery also lasts a little bit longer as a result.
-
I'm running on the very first BIOS and have never updated (v1.04 I think).
Is there actually any point in updating the BIOS? The website says don't update unless you have a problem. -
I just got a little big confused. I'm interested in getting a GPS fix too with my Acer 3810tg and I have gm382.
So, what I didn't understand is what cables are you using and what are the connections? Do you have the original cable and the FXP14 antena connected to the gm382?
From where can I buy one?
Thank you! -
I have two more questions: what is the firmware version you are using? And what is the third party Software and Drivers you use?
Thanks -
Can users that have upgraded their Timeline machines from Windows Vista tell us how their experience was like after upgrading?
Thanks. -
I have only used windows 7 on my 3810tg and I must say that despite the suspend glitch when I install the ATI drivers from Accer Support (and only ATI; no Intel) the windows estimates about 8 hours wich are about 6 hours with some videos, youtube, word and Internet.
If I am only using it only for word processing it runs 9hour+.
Don't forget to do not install the intell drivers over ATI's. The ATI already includes the intell driver.
If you suspend your computer or windows report low battery life even with a full charged battery you can change to ATI card and then back to intel.
Hope this helps! -
jnmorgado, did your 3810tg originally come with Vista and then you upgraded, or did it come with 7 out of the box?
I am thinking of moving from Vista to Windows 7 on my 3810t, using Acer's upgrade kit, but I don't know if it will negatively impact battery life.
I also was wondering if anyone else used the upgrade kit, and if they did whether they did an 'upgrade' or 'clean install'. I read on various forums that performing a clean install is the best for computers, but all the hardware drivers need to be reinstalled, which I'm not sure whether it would be problematic.
The upgrade kit comes with a 'Acer Upgrade Kit' that supposedly contains a wizard for helping you reinstall and/or update drivers after upgrading or clean installing Windows 7, has anyone had experience with this? -
Dont panic about having to find drivers. They are available in any number of places. The only way to go is a clean install and reinstallation of the needed drivers. If there are any difficulties, you can always rely on the Vista drivers which will work just fine.
-
Can I use an external DVD drive to run the Windows 7 disc since the 3810T does not have an optical drive? I heard something about needing to change the boot device order or something in the BIOS?
Unfortunately, I'm not really that technically proficient, so any help would be appreciated. -
You can plugin in your DVD drive and at the boot sequence multiple press F12. From there you can choose from which unit you want to boot, in your case the DVD unit.
-
Thanks for the help drierdna.
I just want to ask again whether users that have updated their Timeline laptops from Windows Vista to Windows 7 have experienced any change in battery life, for the better or for the worse. Earlier in this thread, some users claimed reduced battery life, but was this back when Acer hadn't updated its drivers to properly support Windows 7? -
I get around 8 hours depending on what I'm doing running win 7. I never used it with vista, but can assure 8+ hours in 7 with wifi off and brightness lowest running Word.
-
Overall, I recomend upgrading to windows 7 with a clean install (and in the 3810t you don't have the two graphics glitch)!
I can have 8hours+ on word processing with wifi on! -
a=gps
m=3g
get it
and you can use any COAX !!! cable lets say wifi cable
And where i got them sectron.cz Mail them , they cant make it with cable and lengt as you specify .and bank trancever!.
(note 100% 3g / s-gps 50% /a-gps ?????? --> waiting to be tested ) before placing make sure you have a good connection where you want to place it!!
fxp14 you can use for 3g and gps as it is a hexa band and its a passif antena.( SMALL !!!!)
I'm waiting on my gtm382 for testing a-gps as gtm380 s-gps is working for nav but every sec its losing signal not that you cant nav but i'm somone that wants to make good thingsi cant get a-gps working with gtm380 so this or next week i'm getting my gtm382 and test a-gps .
also in 3 weeks ill wil get my touch screen and ill will post all photo's how i did it.

Hey guys can someone please upload the original wallpaper from the 3810T caus I have deleted mine by installing Windows 7.

Cheers! -

Hi guys,
For some reason, on Vista on my 3810T, every time I go to advanced settings under power options and change my start menu sleep button to shut down (I prefer it that way), it works and the button changes, but whenever I start up the machine again, it returns back to a sleep button.
Is PowerSmart Manager or something interfering with this? -
Yeah, I think PowerSmartManager is acting funny on this laptop as well. I would go and change my wifi and brightness settings to the lowest level, and it would always pop back up. I guess we either did the same mistake, or the software just hates us.
-
I have a question: I've just bought the 5810TG model, is normal that in a silent bedroom I can hear the noise from the laptop? I thought that it wouldn't make any noise at all...
By the way, the laptop is in idle and the fan isn't running. -

Anybody know the difference between the 5810TG and the 5810T ZG , what does the Z stand for?
Also for the posted above , my fan is always running though it does speed up and slow down it never stops.
